Is Brazil closed?

I don't think it's park protocol, but common courtesy and respect, although Disney could disguise it as park protocol to be polite. They really should coach the chaperones in how ensure that their group doest not annoy the rest of the people in the park and give the other guests a bad impression of their country.

You said it better! "Park protocol" isn't the best phrasing. The way you worded is more what I had in mind. Our church sends groups to our sister church in a remote town in Haiti every other year and the groups who go are versed in the customs and "do's and don'ts" of their culture so that when they're there, they don't do or say something that could inadvertently be insulting or give a bad impression. They also try to learn some Creole phrases so as to be able to communicate a little with them.

Aren't they almost gone yet? I'm really, really hoping they are by the time we get there on July 28th. I'd heard early to mid July so was hoping we'd miss them!

And as far as Brazil being closed, maybe it's like this quote from this week's All Ears Newsletter regarding Jersey Week:

If there's a week, or several days, when your kids are on a school vacation, the chances are good that another area of the country is also on hiatus. This is obvious for the major holidays like Christmas, Presidents' Week, Easter Break and Thanksgiving -- some others, like New Jersey week, less so. (If you're wondering, New Jersey Week is a week in November when all residents of the Garden State must leave and visit Florida. I'm not exactly sure of the reasoning but I think it involves a general dusting and cleaning of the state and this is, apparently, easier than asking twelve million people to simultaneously "lift your feet.") :rotfl:

>:o INCORRECT!

*as I'm from NJ :P* :rotfl2:

But back on topic, it's not pleasant seeing 150 Brazilians with matching shirts stampeding the Magic Kingdom (I've seen them there 3 years in a row)

Personally, I have been to Disney with Brazil and with cheerleaders and I'll take Brazil. The cheerleaders drive me insane and I won't go back when they are having their competitions.

You shouldn't have to "take" either.

What you (and I, and every other sensible Disney fan) needs to do it let Disney know in no uncertain terms that we are getting fed up with them allowing ANY group to engage in repeating rude behavior which impacts regular decent guests, and that if they don't start doing something about that we will not only take our business elsewhere but also tell others to.

Here's what I do with the line cutting (this is NOT just for Brazilian groups).

Person/People: I/We have someone up further ahead in line.
Me: Too bad.
Person/People: Can I/we get to them?
Me: Nope.
Person/People: Then what do I/we do?
Me: Get them to come back to where you are in line. You're not getting past me.

If they pull an "I don't know English" move, I just keep my arms on the hand rails, and keep my arms in front of them when they try to pass.

Yikes! I guess I've never been there during BTGs, because I don't recall seeing huge groups like that. Hopefully they're gone in 18 days.

I was wondering what everyone means about the line cutting. Do they just step up & get wherever they want in line? Or does one of them get in line (at the end), and have their 25 friends join them when the line has moved up? Either way, that sucks. I would love for someone to try that to us. DH is normally very nice and mellow, but if you try to pull a fast one while he's at Disney, look out! :scared1:

I hear you! This is exactly what my father and I do. My sister and my mom shake there heads at us and think we are rude to not let them pass but im sorry, ive been waiting in this line for a hour now and you come strolling back from the ice cream stand with an ice cream for the person who waited in line -just to cut in front of me? Sorry.
I am disinclined to acquest your request. Means NO.

Can't Disney at least send out (to all tour group leaders) some rules of the road to follow? Adults are letting kids get away with truly obnoxious behavior, and Disney isn't holding any of the adults accountable.

Memo to group leaders: Your kids aren't cute, they're annoying people who also paid good money to be there. Maybe the led aren't mature enough to understand this, but they haven't grown up yet. What's your excuse??

Phew, that makes me feel better, because I (having a conscience, unlike some of the tourists I have seen at Disney) always have to think if it's right, but then I kick in the "I've been waiting here, so too bad for you!" mode.

Oh, my! :) This made me smile! You obviously don't know what kind of WDW nut you are dealing with here.

I'm not sure what it would take for me to take my business elsewhere, but I do know that it will take more than Brazilians and cheerleaders to scare me off! :rotfl:

When I said that I'll take one over the other I mean, I've been there for both, and the Brazilian tour groups didn't bother me. But the cheerleaders groups really did and I try to take note of when they will be there and avoid it.

Here's an example w/what happened to us quite often. We'd be in the line at our resort's (All * Sports) food court. There would be two Brazilian kids in front of us so we'd think "Great, we'll be ordering shortly". Then, the two Brazilian kids spot 12 of their friends and call out to them. Turns out those 12 all want food and want what their friends are in line for, so the 12 extra kids all just jump into line w/their friends.

No matter how many times you say "Sorry, the line is back there", they either pretend to not understand you or ignore you altogether. I stopped saying "You need to go to the end of the line" b/c it was not worth wasting my breath or energy over b/c nobody was controlling it or doing anything about it. They'd play their "don't understand English" card and that'd be the end of it.

Sure, Disney can do this. Matter of fact, they can do it til they're blue in the face. But do you think these kids are going to follow that? Do you really think that they're going to think that Disney's going to give them the boot when Disney needs their cash? These kids as well as tour groups are not going to care and will continue with their nonsense. Meanwhile, Disney will be happy to receive these groups b/c they're a sure-fire profit. They fill the rooms, buy the souveniers, food, etc. They're a cash cow and Disney isn't going to snub them for the money. Until Disney cracks down on their hijinks, this is going to continue. I don't think Disney wants to ruin their Brazilian relationship as it brings guaranteed income to the parks.

Plain and simple, it's about money ... not the way people behave.

I agree. When I talk with him, I will mention that there are so many other groups that fall into this category as well. Thanks for reminding me. ;)

I called and left the gentleman in the WDW Executive Offices a message today, but it was pretty late in the day. The number he gave me in my e-mail was his direct number! I lovingly reminded him that I am the DVC member and Annual Passholder that called him about an issue many folks are concerned about. I am anticipating a call from him most likely on Monday.

I have already had someone ask me what my letter said. I guess it shocked me too that this gentleman from the executive offices responded so fast. I did "mention" that I am a DVC member and and Annual Passholder below my name but before my address and telephone number. Not sure if that had anything to do with it, but hey, I am just pleased he responded. Here is my letter to WDW Guest Communications . . .

To whom it may concern:

I am an annual pass holder who loves to go to WDW. There is a wonderful website that CM's and non-CM's post on called The Dis Board (www.wdwinfo.com). I have, over the last several years, heard NUMEROUS complaints about how guests have saved their hard-earned monies to go to WDW, only to come back frustrated and angry about the Brazilian tour groups (they stand out the most among other tour groups) that ruin everyone's fun.

They chant as a group in the middle of shows, lock arms while walking down paths so others can not get by, cut in line by the droves, knock people down, and other ridiculous actions. Of course their "ringleader" is always their guide/chaperone.

Would you PLEASE read the link below. It is just one of MANY that have cropped up over the issues with these groups. I know, they are paying guests. But guess what? So are we! And there are a whole lot more of us than the Brazilians who can not behave themselves.

Thank you for checking into this. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call me. Thank you!

Will keep you all posted . . . :thumbsup2

Not to say that you won't do this, but try not to make it seem like you are anti-Brazil, as many people seem to. I think there is some very good constructive criticisms you could offer about the handlings of large groups and want to thank you for doing this on behalf of the rest of us.

Again, not saying that you are a bigot who would unfairly characterize an entire population, but others do and I just think you need to be careful how you say it so they don't think you are one of those people, and so that they take you seriously.

Or just say "no speak espanol"::rotfl2:

The most troubling thing in this thread to me is the reaction by some to the poster who corrected the individual who cited the historic "facts."

It is one thing to live in this great country completely oblivious to the events and sacrifices that led to the very freedom enjoyed by all today. There is nothing "wrong" with living in the dark, and I'll fight for the right of the individual to do so.

It's another thing to accuse a person of being "too PC" or "nit-picky" when they take the time to discern two completely different but important historical events and dismiss them (and the loss of human life) as frivilous footnotes. General Custer (one poster even has him confused with a popular frozen dessert) wasn't at Wounded Knee, which was a slaughter of mostly unarmed natives. He WAS at Little Big Horn (briefly) which was a slaughter of a U.S. Army detachment BY natives.

If that's not important to you, fine. It's all good, but don't criticize those who think these events actually do hold some relevance.
Excuse me, but I'm not the one who brought up Native American history on a thread about obnoxious BTG's. That was what made me think that the PC patrol was alive and well. Besides being off topic, the post I was referring to basically called the person disrespectful when they made an honest mistake..This is a hallmark of the ultra-sensitive, "nitpicky" PC people. I stand by what I posted, and apparently, I wasn't alone in feeling that that post was a little harsh. Several people got their liberal panties in a twist because many people here happen to have a problem with these tour groups, not because they are Brazilian, but because they are spoiled brats who have little concern for those around them. If you are a guest in this country, then behave appropriately.

They speak Portugese. I am thinking of asking some of my Portugese friends to teach me several insulting phrases to use if I'm ever there at the same time as these groups! At the very least, I want to be able to say, "Hey, moron! The end of the line is back there!!!":rotfl2:

Is Portugese a dialect of Spanish? Just curious:goodvibes

Nope, it is it's own language, spoken in Portugal and Brazil and I'm sure other places as well. It sounds different than Spanish(not as melodious, it can almost sound harsh to the ear) and while there are some similarities, there are many differences as well.

Most Interesting Discussion. How Long Do They Stay ??? I Had Some Run Ins With Them A Few Years Ago Too .i Thought They Stopped Coming. I Haven't Seen Them For Some Time.i Too Am A Ap Holder And Visit About 3 -4 Times A Year. And I Don't Need A Problem When I'm Now Coming With My Grandchildren. I Too Will Write To Disney If It Would Help. It Does't Take A Lot Of Brains Or No How To Teach Them How To Behave .
