Is Brazil closed?

I think I would rather deal with the love bugs than the BTG. Rude crowds of stomping, yelling people does not a nice vacation make. And I remember seeing them in WDW when I was a teen. THey had matching shirts and everything. Hope, they're gone in August!

We were there July 9-14 and there were a bunch of groups, probably mostly Brazilian. I know some other countries were represented too, but I don't recall which ones. I agree that any group of people of that size, especially teenagers, is likely to be obnoxious at some point during the day.

Generally, they were behaved OK, but the clapping and chanting was too much for me. I learned early in the week to avoid them whenever possible. When I'd see a group converge on an attraction, I'd go some place else. Any group that size (70+) screws up traffic patterns in my opinion.

I think there should be special rules for groups that big for using fast passes. I don't know if they had to put in all their park passes to get the fast passes or whether they are handed to them in bulk, but when a huge group uses fast passes all at once, it kills not only the fast pass line, but the stand-by line as well. The only defense we had was to try to avoid them, which was difficult as there were so many large groups.

I did think the chaperones kept the kids in pretty good order, but we did have a little bit of pushing past us to catch up with others in the group. We missed being in an eatery at the same time as the "group" and thankfully so. I can't imagine what a CS restaurant would have been like with a group that large hitting it all at once.

We just came back on Tuesday from WDW we had a great time except the tour groups were all over the place. They were loud, chanting and singing all over the place. My husband thinks there must not be any children left in Brazil because they are all at WDW. Everyday we saw 5 - 7 groups at each park we were at. We didn't even get on some rides because they were too long with these groups. It was very sad.

Several years ago my daughter took a trip in July and after her experience we will never go during the summer months again. There were several Brazilian groups. She saw a couple of girls from one group urinate on the sidewalk at the MK. In addition, she was staying at one of the All Star hotels (sports, I think) and the hotel was filled with the Brazillian tour groups. They had to close the pool on a couple of occassions because they had pee'd in it.:scared1:

Just ban matching shirts and the little sticks with flags on them. Then all the tour groups (Brazilian or not) would just wander aimlessly around the parks like the rest of us. That would sort of "even the playing field"...

And, for the record, we were there last week and saw lots of BTG's but the ones we encountered were well behaved and not a problem at all, except for the inherent traffic jams that occur when 50 people hit a queue line at the same time.

I dont think the shirts and flags are the problem..they could never wander around aimlessly with their chanting and bad behavior. They will always stand out. I am sorry if that offends some people but its the way it is. If my teenage daughter ever went on any trip and behaved like that I would want to know and she would never get that kind of privilege again

And fortunately for me, I have the absolute right to make and state my own opinion on my perception, wonderfully and gloriously knowing that what an anonymous poster on a message board doesn't change my mind, and it certainly does not change facts. If you're a bigot, closet or not, in denial or not...you're still a bigot...no matter how many cute quotes you google, or how many signatures from the same message board, from yet another anonymous poster, you may ascribe to. It's also fortunate that as an adult, I don't need the DIS to shape my opinions.

Hey...don't get me wrong...this allllll just electronic graffiti. You certainly have the "absolute" right (well...subject to the whims of those who own this board) to state whatever inanities, bon mots, cliches or other feelings that you'd like.

I also have the right to call "bullpucky" where needed. To be candide, I have no doubt that I will not change your "mind" in regard to this matter...you seem quite convinced that your opinion on this matter is the best opinion of all possible opinions. C'est la vie.

I have not seen nor heard any of the so-called Brazillian Invaders. Nor have I expressed an opinion on their potential intrinsic rudenes, possible ignorance of American mores, or their possible subjection to messageboard meanies.

What I did express an opinion on is the not-so-veiled accusation of racism by you and a couple others that the mere fact that those with direct experience with these groups expressed dismay at their behavior...and noted the FACT that most, if not all, were from Brazil (which is merely descriptive not pejorative...no matter what twisted "logic" you may attempt to employ).

It is those who seek offense at the smallest trifles...real and imagined...who coarsen the public discourse in our society.

btw...no need for me to google any quotes...those were mine (other than noting another poster's signature). But thank you very much for your implicit compliment...

Have a joyous day! :hippie:

I got back yesterday - I saw them everywhere!! When we saw the flags we ran the other way!!

We stayed at the Poly and I didnt see any at the resorts but i did hear a lot of chanting - ole ole, ole ole ole.........ugh.

Wow. I don't think I have ever been offended as much by a thread on the DIS forum as this one. Well except for the thread where my religion was bashed. My wife is Brazilian. I can assure you that this is not their culture. This can be atributed to teens being teens. Teens are the same all over. Let's face they are pretty clueless and oblivious to everything around them except for their peers. A lot of this behaviour can be marked up as trying to be cool for their friends.

Peer pressure and "teens being teens" does not apply in this case. All the groups travel with their adult chaperones as they move en masse through the parks. The chaperones encourage the chanting and loud behavior.

If this was Star Trek and the Klingon tour groups were there in July everyone would be complaining about the Klingon tour groups. They are loud, they are grunting.......it does not matter who they are. Loud, obnoxious groups are loud, obnoxious groups no matter who they are.

I have many Brazillian friends here in my town. I love them all. This is in no way bigoted or prejudiced - just factual. I was told that it was the rich kids who get the WDW trips from their parents when they graduate. My Brazillian friends rolled their eyes because they are not from wealthy families and didn't get trips to WDW for graduation but they are aware of their spoiled behavior.

I have been to WDW and I've had first hand experience with the Brazillian tour groups - they are not controlled and their behavior is horrendous. They are allowed to act as though they have no boundaries and they do not have to show any respect to fellow travellers. They DO cut in line, push and shove their way past anyone they please, endlessly chant so you can't hear what any of the CM say, and they are generally a pain in the neck to travel along side.

I have to disagree that "teens will be teens." It is up to the adult chaperones to keep their behavior in check. I have been to WDW when Girl Scout troops were there and they did not behave this way. In 2005 I went to Night of Joy with literally thousands of teens and they didn't act anything like the tour groups.

Since WDW can't seem to control it, we've just chosen not to go during the summer months.

This is SO TRUE. And you wouldn't hear anyone crying racist either, because geeks are considered a sub-species of humanity. :sad2:

This was always my mother's theory... we'd always go in July (both my parents worked in schools) and she always figured they were so rude because there was probably a huge gap between the rich and the poor in Brazil. Only the upper class could afford to send their children to Disney World... So not only are these rich people who are culturally brought up to see other people who are not like them as not worthy of their respect, these are the TEENAGE CHILDREN of such people. This leads to a nightmare mentality, no matter what your race, creed, or color.

This can be atributed to teens being teens. Teens are the same all over. Let's face they are pretty clueless and oblivious to everything around them except for their peers. A lot of this behaviour can be marked up as trying to be cool for their friends.

And I am offended by your statement. Part of my junior high school senior class went on a 5-day trip to Orlando in 2001. We were a group of fifty 14-year olds and we caused no problems, AT ALL. We were respectful and considerate and didn't run around touching people, obnoxiously chanting or urinating on the sidewalk. We had fun and made sure we didn't cause any trouble.

Now fast-forward to a few years later. I'm 20-years old now and no longer a teenager, yet I NEVER acted like that. EVER. Neither did my brother, cousins, or any of my friends, and we all recently were, or still are, teens. We would never imagine acting in such an oblivious, inconsiderate and disrespectful way. Is it our culture? Maybe. Is it the fact that we were raised to have fun without disrespecting others? Most likely.

Before you all cry racism, take a step back and actually read the posts. Several of us have come across obnoxious, inconsiderate and disrespectful tour groups of Brazilians. No one said that all Brazilians suck. No where in this thread does it say "Down with the Brazilians! They're ALL oblivious, inconsiderate and disrespectful." Yet that's what you're implying. Brazil's a beautiful country with diverse and interesting people. And I'm sure there are a whole lot of Brazilians in the parks who aren't part of tour groups and are completely respectful. I mean, I grew up in and am still living in New York City. We've got people from ALL OVER the world here, literally from every race, culture, background, religion, and heritage - and I don't see people here acting as the tour groups down at Disney do. The behavior is disgusting.

And I think it's funny how you're so offended by people generalizing a population (which was never even done), and your comeback is a generalization of a population. Again, recently being a teen myself, I would never imagine acting how the kids we came across did. And yes, they were from Brazil, but ultimately it has nothing to do with that. It could just be that all of the kids we came across were raised by neglectful and ignorant parents who never bothered to teach their kid's manners, and who thought it was OK to be obnoxious, inconsiderate and disrespectful? :confused3

When they start chanting "Ole Ole Ole" you start chanting "Go Away, Go Away, Go Away" ;)

Does anyone here know how to say, "Hey! Get at the end of the line!" in Portuguese?

I'm sorry but this thread bothers me. If its really about large group and the large group mentality, then say so but to focus in on a specific nationality borders on prejudice. I realize we come of this board to rant and rave at times but lets practice a little more tolerance, please.
then don't come to this board, freedom of speech and if these people are being rude than they have the right to alarm everyone i for sure am glad they did as i now know not to go there in july any other months i should be worried about????:goodvibes :goodvibes :)
