Is Brazil closed?

I haven't read through this thread yet but we just got back last night from a week at WDW and Universal. This was our eighth trip in July and the Brazilian tour groups we encountered this year were the worst by far. Why Disney does not do anything to stop this is beyond me. Our family agreed that we would never go back at this time again. What other group of people 50-100 strong lie down in the middle of Main Street after the parade and totally screw up the ability to exit the park. I don't care if this offends anyone because their lying and abuse of the que system at WDW offended me the entire week. We were in line with them at Rock n Roller Coaster. Half of a group of 50 raced (and I do mean ran) to get in front of us in the new Single Rider line. The entire time it was like a battle trying to keep the rest of them from cutting in line ahead of us. I don't think there is any reason to cut line because it is a Single rider line. When we told them they couldn't go ahead of us, they told us they would just get the rest of their group with them when they got to the attendant. When we reached the CM, they tried the we don't speak English (total BS) and linked arms and tried to go on the ride together. We watched as the leader told them to do this. She proceeded to argue with the CM and in effect shut the whole single rider line down. The CM was fantastic and deserved battle pay for having to deal with her. He had to even call for backup because I think he was ready to lose his cool at one point. One of the teenage girls who was finally separated from riding with her best friend began sobbing and, suprise, the only thing that would stop the tears was if the rest of her group could cut us in line and go thru ahead of us. We refused and told her that she was welcome to join the 25 other members of her English at Disney tour group behind us. More tears ensued. The CM at RNR told us that we had just experienced a Brazilian Single Rider line so I guess that they do this all of the time.

Your mention of Custer & Wounded Knee is of course disrespectful (because of the lack of knowledge) as you have combined 2 very different battles. Wounded Knee, better known as the Massacre at Wounded Knee, is the slaughter of mainly disarmed natives who were being led to a reservation. It occurred after the Little Big Horn where Custer died. Some reports suggest that as the cavalry shot the unarmed natives, they yelled "remember Custer".

Although your true intent was probably not to disrespect, the lack of knowledge of such a sad day for American Natives, is in itself, disrespectful, although unintentional.
Are you kidding me? What is it with the ultra-thinskinned PC patrol around here lately? :sad2:

I am not sure how trying to correct an inaccurate representation of historical facts is somehow PC or "ultra-thinskinned" [sic] as you claim. I wouldn't think anyone should joke at all or compare a bunch of obnoxious and rude teenagers to government officers who killed innocent women and children. The person who did make that comparison obviously did not know the correct details of these historical events; correcting misinformation is not being PC or thin-skinned.

The poster was not comparing it to Wounded Knee, they were making a reference to Custards last stand but used the wrong battle.

DH and I returned yesterday from a wonderful week in WDW. Yes there were tour group at every turn. But in all honesty, they weren't that bad. Except th is one night at Chef Mickey's.

We were seated to the right as you first come in and this was fine. Until a Brazillian group came in and was seated all around us. There were maybe 25 of them with about 3-4 chaperones. As soon as the characters appeared you could see that they were encouraged by the adults to run up to the character and "pose". The CM immediately began explaining as well as he could that they had to go back to their table. Ok...now everyone is sitting and here comes Minnie! She greeted us and we got our picture :thumbsup2 and then went to the table directly to my right. One of the chaperones in an attempt to video the scene came between our table and the table to our left; so close he was literally filming over our food. DH stood up and said "excuse me" in a tone that in any language meant he was not happy. The chaperone quietly said "sorry" and moved but continued to film. Another character came to the table to my right and the kids all huddled together again, at the request of the chaperone and one kid literally was pushed back so far he landed in my lap. Now DH was up again and really voiced his annoyance with the group and a CM came over and told them that they had to try and and NOT disturb the other guests.

This is what I am talking about though. You are entitled to feel that people shouldn't joke about certain things but as my grandma used to say, opinions are like anal orifices(PC term for butthole), everyone's got one. Who are you to decide what jokes are made? Secondly,it is not the correction of facts that irked me, it's the tone used, and the nitpicky nature of the post. Calling someone disrespectful because they got historical dates wrong is just plain stupid. I'm sorry, but there are people that ARE way too hypersensitive and`politically correct. I am native American on my dad's side and the rest of me is a hodgepodge of various cultures. If I were one of these sniveling PC people, I'd be offended 24 hours a day. Many of us come from ethnic backgrounds where there are various stereotypes, jokes and/or historical events that weren't very pleasant.
There are other large groups that show up at Disney and are rude also..ie Cheerleaders(some), school groups etc. There are posts slamming these groups as well. This post was about obnoxious Brazilian tour groups, of which many people here have first hand experience. If you are so offended by the "bigots" on this thread,(we were called bigots by a previous poster) why read it?

Because its like that horrible accident...they hate it but they cant not watch it

Funny because I am one of the earlier posters who complained about the Brazilian tour groups I just experienced earlier this month. So I was called a bigot. I guess I'm a PC bigot? Or a thin-skinned PC bigot?

It just irks me that someone who corrects a historical mistake (and points out to someome who made that mistake that he or she could have offended a Native American in doing so even unintentionally) is criticized for that. Part of the reason so many people misjudge others is because they lack the accurate information. I'm pretty sure that most Americans have no idea what happened at Wounded Knee. As calgarygary wrote, "Although your true intent was probably not to disrespect, the lack of knowledge of such a sad day for American Natives, is in itself, disrespectful, although unintentional." The lack of knowledge is the problem here, and calgarygary was just pointing out the truth.

Many people who have attacked those of us irritated with the Brazilians (and called us bigots in the process) have not experienced them and therefore do not have the information that we have--so again, a lack of information or an abundance of misinformation causes problems where there's no need for any.

I think, Tam, that you inadvertently stepped into the "moral police" shoes for this thread. It get a little old to have various "mommas" correcting others grammar, manners, understanding of history, etc. on message boards. I was reading a thread the other day when one poster repeatedly reminded the others that they "didn't know all of the facts" and therefore shouldn't be posting their opinions about it. She was similarly confused by the resulting backlash and ended up "backing out" of the thread. I don't think she ever got the point, but oh well. At least she quit the judgmental posts.

Randy Jackson has exited the thread.

The amazing thing to me is that this thread started 4 days ago and there have been 272 posts. This tells me that many people have experiance the tour groups and that there is an issue. Wish Disney would do some training with the groups before they landed in the parks.

I think I'll go for a walk outside now,
The summer sun's calling my name, I hear it now.
I just can't stay inside all day,
I've got to get out, gimme some of those rays.

Everybody's smiling (sunshine day),
Everybody's laughing (sunshine day),
Everybody seems so happy today in the sunshine day.

Oooh. Can't you dig the sunshine?
Feel the sun and the rays.
Can't you hear it calling your name?

(Okay...I admit...that one I googled!:goodvibes

:worship: Anyone who quotes the Brady Bunch is okay in my book!

"Although your true intent was probably not to disrespect, the lack of knowledge of such a sad day for American Natives, is in itself, disrespectful, although unintentional." The lack of knowledge is the problem here,

If someone doesn't know something how about taking the opportunity to graciously and kindly teach them instead of abusing them for their lack of knowledge? I am confident that there are plenty of very important things of which you are ignorant too.

Wow, I think my husband needs some serious mental help! He actually ENJOYED viewing Fantasmic with the Brazilian tour groups! The chanting didn't phase him a bit, and he loved the fact that they were yelling and cheering Mickey on throughout the show...he said they were the most enthusiastic and fun people he has ever watched it with. (I didn't go with him to MGM because I knew better). I guess it's all in the eye of the beholder...

He did experience the annoyance of their path-blocking though, but he spent enough years working in downtown Chicago to know how to be an aggressive walker. He said he felt like the Pied Piper because he would break through the Brazilian roadblock and a bunch of other people would follow behind him.

Even more amazing is the fact that it hasn't been locked yet! Mods must be on vacation at WDW. :rotfl:

:rolleyes2 : :rolleyes2 : :cop:

:teacher: Thanks for the pc lesson...I think it was said tongue in cheek to start with!

They are everywhere!!! They just keep coming. The only thing that really annoys me is they were singing "Jump shake your booty" over and over again @the Nemo musical. I saw one of their tour leaders @ Columbia House for lunch and they were ordering for all of them their bill was $1,025 and the guy payed in all $50 travelers checks it was crazy!

They pay that way since each teen has their own money. How else did you expect them to pay? Cheerleading groups are no different, they may have cash....that is about it

If I were walking along, minding my own business, and someone purposely pushed me down, there is no way I could even stop my husband from going after that person. Not a chance.

never mind my husband.. I would get up and go after them my self if it was done to me on purpose! No matter who did it to me!
