I am miserable and misery loves company. Does anyone else have this horrible flu?? Fever, cough, headache, bodyaches.....I would love to hear what everyone is doing to help them feel better and what is working??

Ohh-sorry you're sick. It seems to have died down around here -Buffalo- for the time being. Just try to sleep it away and let the fever do it's job-it's working for you-don't suppress it unless you are in bad pain.

I'm sorry that you had to go and catch this nasty flu.. When I've had "flu-type" illnesses in the past, I found that taking a hot bath every half hour or so really helped with the aches and pains..

Hope you're over it very, very soon..:goodvibes

Actually at the clinic I work at in N. Buffalo we have been seeing a huge influx in the # of cases over the last 2 weeks. I do believe it will start to fizzle out again in this area soon though, for awhile at least. It went strong for about 3-4 weeks back in the spring (based on the # of new cases we were seeing daily) and then pretty much just dropped off.

Hang in there. I believe I'm just about done w/ it. I have some congestion and a cough that is hanging on, but my doctor told me it will probably last a good 2-3 weeks before that goes away completely.

I came down w/ it last Friday....couldn't get off the couch at all Fri evening and all day Saturday. Sunday was not much better, I slept most of the day away.

I missed the whole week of work. I thought it was silly when on Monday when my doctor told me he was putting me out until the following Monday-----I thought there was no way I was going to need 10 days from the time I first got sick until I was better. He was right though. Yesterday I thought I was good...did a few things around the house and went to bed for several hours I was so tired. So I will continue to take it easy most of this weekend---- and go to work Monday hopefully feeling 100%

I started Tamiflu about 18 hrs into it and my husband started Tamilfu about 36 hrs into it...ironically he was better quicker. Today we both did well and went out to lunch and went shopping for a little bit. I also cleaned and did laundry. I still feel pretty good this evening, but going out for a little bit knocked my husband right back down. So that is where we are at 1 full week later.

My fever only lasted 2 days and the same w/ my husband. It was the achy, very run down, coughing, congestion that lasted for days.

I've got it and dd just started with it yesterday. 1/2 her class is out sick. Tylenol, cough medicine, sleep. I have been taking Tamiflu and it did seem to help. I was feeling better yesterday, but today went back to the doc because my chest is hurting and wheezing and rattling at night. She gave me an antibiotic. I hate taking all this stuff.

So far, dd seems to have a mild case. I pray it continues that way.

Feel better.

Don't know yet if I actually have the flu. Just know I woke up with a scratchy throat and a cough. I am achy all over and tired. I was supposed to go to NYC on vacation today but I checked my temp before I left. It went from 98.8 to 99.5 in a half an hour and I was due to leave for the airport. So here I am on the couch, feeling lousy and knowing I should be in a nice hotel in NYC. I was really looking forward to seeing the USS New York.

Hot Bath did help and jammies

So I will definitely join you in misery!!

The schools I teach at had it really bad two weeks ago, last week was better and this week even better. I was totally amazed at the number of children who came to school very sick. It must be a tough spot to be in-keep your kid home and lose your job. I just thank god I'm not in that situation.

Apparently, influenza viruses LOVE dry, cold weather. We have not hit that yet-in fact, it's been very damp and rainy here. Makes me wonder just how bad it will get when the temps really drop.

Well, I'm sick, so I'm right there with ya. I think it's just a cold though, and not the flu. Tired, stuffy nose, sore throat, sore muscles. No fever at all. It stinks, though. I'm soo ready to get off work and get into a warm bath so I can maybe stop feeling so miserable.

I had a conversation w/ my sons school yesterday and off topic I asked about the number of kids absent....they pretty much reported the same as you. That a few weeks ago was way worse and it seems to be improving.

That is all good signs that maybe we'll get another respite......at least one long enough to get everyone immunized that wants to.

I think it might have been here on the DIS that I read something similar to this.. It will begin to drop off and then come back in a big way in January.. Hopefully by then all who need or want the vaccine will be all set..:thumbsup2

I am not fighting it, yet, but my DS has something. He seems fine 1/2 the time but then at night he is battling a very high temp and seems very uncomfortable. He was at 102.8 last night in his ear which can be a bit lower than his actual temp. It seemed to have broken around 5AM because he was a sweating puddle of baby boy. I have been keeping him comfortable with by alternating motrin and tylenol. He is having a very hard time sleeping at night. Last night I think he slept from 12:45AM to 2:50AM and then fell asleep again by 6AM and was up at 9:30AM. He is napping now but it's fitful.

I just hope it doesn't get worse and that I don't get it. I was thinking about getting the shot at my OB appointment Tuesday but still don't know.

I started my suffering on 10/19...got over the flu within 5-6 days, but then the cough....and now, several weeks later and on my second course of prednisone (steroids) to heal my lungs. I am SICK of being short of breath, and having that achy chest feeling. Getting worried it'll NEVER go away.

The other 5 people in my household are done and over it completely, dd16 was out of school all last week with fever x 4 days, then a rash. She feels good now, the rash is almost gone. We're glad it went through all of us already, because my dd11 and dd7 have regional dance championships coming up in 3 weeks. Need to all be at their best.

Got something. Fever 102 all night day before yesterday but mostly just a stuffy nose, little cough, and mild aches. I had the true flu years ago and as I recall the roots of my hair and the filings in my teeth hurt then.

Hope everyone feels better soon.

Dh had the flu a few weeks ago. Ds had the flu last week and is mostly recovered. Now I have the flu. It's bad.

I do feel better today than yesterday. The worst part for me was the muscle aches and pains. My legs felt as if I had climbed the Statue of Liberty stairs 50 times in a row. I was so sore yesterday and am grateful that today is a better day in general, but I'm still not 100% and have a horrendous cough.

I'm waiting for dd to get it. I hope she doesn't, but it's likely she will.

We all had the seasonal flu shot but were unable to get the H1N1 shot. My dh is pretty sure he had H1N1 because even though they didn't test him for it some of his co-workers (where he was most likely exposed) were tested positive for it, and ds & I are assuming H1N1 is what we had/have too.

I hope all of the fellow sufferers feel better soon and the rest of the Dis'ers stay healthy! :flower3:

I just keep telling myself I will get better. I had a fever of 103 last night and everyhting hurt intensly. I hope everyone here has a speedy recovery!

Now it feels like I'm going to cough up a lung.

You know what's really sad......tomorrow is my and dh's birthday. We share a birthday. We had a nice day trip planned and now that's down the drain. I can't even go out to eat for our birthday because I'm too germy to go anywhere and I feel yucky.

My ds is in a dodgeball league and is missing his game tonight. He's mostly recovered but not well enough to be out of the house yet because we don't want to take a chance with him spreading lingering germs. He is not a happy camper tonight.

I hate the flu.

I think ds and I will do a DVD Monk Marathon. We did that last night and it was a good way to pass the evening. We're working our way through Season 3.

Lots of pixie dust to everyone! :wizard:

DD 18 was diagnosed yesterday. I got her to the doctor within 30 hours of first symptoms, but all we got was a note for her job and school. He wouldn't give us a Tamiflu scrip, and I am not happy. She needs to get well quickly and get back to classes! And her boss at Starbucks is making her responsible for getting all her shifts covered.

So far just fever and aches, and the fever seems better today. She has a little bit of cough, I hope that doesn't get worse.

Sorry, but that is just ridiculous. I would tell him to take care of it, she is too sick. Hope she feels better soon.

Monk marathon. Funny, I'd never watched NCIS till I got sick. Started DVRing it 3 wks ago, began watching it last week, and now am averaging a LOT of episodes per week. I'm glad I'd never watched it before, it gave me something decent to watch now when I really need it!
