Is AAA worth joining for discounts?

Our membership was more expensive than what others are reporting. I want to say it was $74 for DH and me, and that was with a special deal!

Anyway, we used AAA for our October trip, we used the Diamond Card at Fulton's and World of Disney, I used the regular AAA card for a Barnes & Noble online order, and we are using AAA again for our trip next August. We will save $309 on the August trip alone, so it is worth it for us.

But that was for two of you. I think most people reporting was just for one. I can't remember now what ours was exactly, but it sounds about like what you paid and it is also for two of us. Since I had made all my other reservations in my name I thought I'd need a membership too but I guess we would of been OK with one. We really don't have much for any AAA assistance where we live so I joined strictly for what I could save other places. It's always good to read how people saved, and where, with their AAA membership.

The membership for a single person was higher than what other DISers have said. I do think for some reason AAA in Texas is higher than in other states. They were having some sort of a code that allowed a second person to join for a really low price which is why I added myself on. At the time, DH had a truck that wasn't always reliable. Now he has a brand new car and I have roadside assistance as part of the lease on my car. But in the event of a flat, a dead battery, or keys locked in the car I think the AAA service is a good thing to have.

It will be interesting to see what the cost of renewing the membership will be next month.

My husband and I have the plus membership, so we definitely pay more than most. I do know that when I bought a gift membership for my sister in Illinois several years ago, the cost for hers was significantly more than my individual membership at that time. I upgraded to the Plus several years ago (believe it's around $74 for just me) after having broken down in Cleveland and needing to be towed back to Dayton. That was just about 100 miles and AAA towing only covers a few miles. A few years ago, my car broke down on the RI/CT border and I had it towed back to my house in MA...just under 100 miles, but it was covered!! So glad I had the Plus membership then.

With the Plus, we also were able to get our Passport photos done for free last year and the other discounts have always been great too.
