Is a verandah worth the extra cash

Would like to see the numbers on this topic. I feel it is worth every penny. I know there is another thread about verandah's but its hard to see which way the tide is going.

On our 1st cruise we had a verandah and I don't think I would want to cruise w/o one now. It's great being out there in the early morning or late evening hours.

The only way to go-especially if you have a child. Our son could decompress before bed and watch a movie inside and DH and I could drink some wine and watch the world go by outside. Plus it is great in the morning to see where you have arrived. We would never sail without one! worth every penny to us!

There are certain things on a cruise I can take or leave, no big deal. The verandah is no longer one of them! It is worth EVERY PENNY. I can't say enough about how much I enjoyed it and what it added to our cruise.
I agree with the previous poster - it's great first thing in the morning, with that first cup of coffee, and late at night, under the stars with a glass of wine!!

You bet it's worth it. I'll never cruise without one again.

This is a HARD quesion!!!
Since we cruise so much, we often go for quantity and book a Cat. 10 (secret porthole rooms so we're not "in the dark"). But we've also done our share of "vernadah cruises," and it is addictive!! There is nothing more relaxing than breakfasting out there or spending a few minutes relaxing and watching the stars before bed. It's a lot easier to get by without a verandah on a three day cruise than a seven day...if it's the only way I could do it, I'd do an inside stateroom, but a verandah is definitely my preference.

While booking our June 22 cruise last August ('01), the cast member we booked with told us we had the last full view, unobstructed verandah on deck 6 starboard (aft). We were told this specifically and based on this booked. We paid the extra $$ for the verandah.

When we boarded and got to the room (#6634), we had an obstructed view verandah. There was metal, blocking our view, cutting down from the upper right to lower middle of the verandah. To say we were a bit upset is an understatement. It set a bad tone for the cruise, at least as far as the verandah is concerned. We used it very little because of this. My wife, Cam, looked forward to mornings with coffee out on the verandah for months prior to the cruise, she didn't do this once.

We went to guest services to complain and they said they would have to research the booking and who took it, etc. We spoke to them upon boarding the ship on Saturday, they didn't have a satisfactory answer to us the entire week (we are still waiting for a formal response from Disney). We did ask them to check to see if we could move to another cabin, but nothing was available.

They tried to placate us with a complimentary cracker & cheese tray, and a signed Mickey Mouse photo, and a stuffed Angel Mickey at different times during the week. They even gave us free snorkel gear rentals on Castaway Cay.

What they did was nice, but I am afraid to say that it comes no where near what we expected then, or still expect today, as a result of our verandah experience.

Once this is resolved, I will post an update.

I didn't know they had obstructed view verandahs. What category was it? Was it a navigators verandah? Do let us know when this gets resolved. But I must say Disney customer service is much to be desired.

Wow! That is really a true statement. Even though we were on the 3-day Wonder, we spent lots of time out there while DS5 napped or rested after a busy afternoon or evening. We sail again in January and I am already dreaming about coffee and breakfast out there, something we did not do last time.

The rail that was there (only a partial rail was needed) was the metal and plexiglass type. I believe the room was a category 6 room, but I am not positive. We expect to get some resolution to this matter. We will be contacting Disney soon to heat things up a bit on the subject since nothing is happening. We booked out next cruise while on board (outside cabin - no verandah) for April 2004 (we will move it to June 2004 when it opens up). We are hoping they will credit us the incremental cost of the verandah we paid for our June 22 Western cruise, or at least a portion of it.

Our first cruise we booked a stateroom with a verandah. The second cruise was a LARGE porthole (we got a very good price). Though the porthole was nice; I won't cruise without my verandah! I love sitting out there early in the morning and before bed. It is so relaxing.

Being a room deweller I certainly would vote "YES" to a verandah! Though, I have only had the opportunity to have it once on the DCL (deck 8...went all out). Now, however I just do the window stateroom that way I can afford to crusie more often!

i got spoiled on our very first cruise with a verandah, and i don't think i could take cruising without one. For my family they are worth the extra cost, and that is why we try to be flexible and go when prices are lower...

All of us are working adults most of us 40 plus hours a week. We need a little pampering and all the bonuses we can get after working so hard! so I say if you're gonna go, go BIG!!!

Found this on page 2 and bumping it up, people are still voting, but its on the 2nd page so some may miss it. Interesting, how the poll is going. My DH and myself I may add LOVED the verandah for early morning coffee and sitting out there while the rest of the family was getting ready for dinner and of course late at night. But we had an outside cabin at the outset and I must say I was quite happy with it, but now that I have had a verandah, thats the only way for me as long as I could afford it.

Maybe in 2004 when we cruise I'll try a category 4 or even a 3, but will check for obstructions first. Isn't it nice to dream. But in the meantime I'll stick with my category 5.

This is our first cruise, and we're taking children and grandchildren. My first thought was to go with the absolute cheapest cat. to get us there. My sister kept saying "but you're veranda people!" It suddenly hit me, she was absolutely right. I am SO looking forward to coffee in the morning and wine in the evening!
