Irrational Disney fears.

I have an extremely irrational fear of dinosaurs, animatronics, fake environments (ie: fake rain forest, fake mountain, etc), and man made water environments (in or outdoors). So disney is really the sum of all my irrational fears! :rotfl:

Oh wow, this is one of the most interesting threads I've come across in a long time! I didn't realize there were other people with similar fears. Don't get me wrong, my silly little fears don't keep me from having a good time, but I do get an uneasy feeling from time to time.

1. I never raise my arms all the way up on SM because I feel like I'm going to hit them against something.

2. When getting off of a roller coaster, I step out very carefully because I have a fear of falling on the tracks and getting stuck and run over.

3. Now this is a weird one. I always check to make sure anything I have in my pockets hasn't been sucked down the automatic flushing toilets. I have no idea why I check because if something did get sucked down there's no way I'd be able to retrieve the item!

4. I'm a bit claustrophobic so I get a panicky feeling when I ride on the Nemo submarine at DLR. For some reason leaning my forehead against the cold glass and feeling the air on my face coming from the little vents calms me down.

I saw a couple people mention OCD about the tix and I'm the same way, except with the entire groups. I always collect them, and collect the fastpasses and keep them with me at all times, constantly checking numbers. I am a certified nutjob when it comes to this. For some reason, I don't trust that the people I have with me can keep track of anything.

I don't think I trust others either. I continually check and count tickets. When we're with more than 6 other people I could the people. I don't want to lose anyone.

1. Coming off the rides that have the moving platform. I ALWAYS think I'm not going to start off on them right and I'll go flying OR I will not get off my ride in time to actually make it onto the platform.
I thought this was only me!!! I can not believe that I can finally get this one off my chest. Also goes for rides like Splash and similar - I tend not to be too coordinated and I petrified of holding up the line or closing it down.

I'm also an alarm clock checker. Maybe three times before bed each night.

WORD! I get stressed but not scared.

Maybe I'm the only one who has any type of irrational Disney fear... but mine is that I am so afraid of being under a monorail when it passes by. I am paranoid that one day one is just going to zoom off the rail and crash and I'll just happen to be standing underneath it when it does. If a see a monorail coming above me, I get the heck away from that monorail. :sad2: I know it's crazy, but I can't help it...

I so have this feeling as well:thumbsup2 Years ago my ex loved to ride roller coasters and I did not but would sit down by where he riding them at the time:worship:. And one day he told me he did not want to be cruel but "if" that roller coaster would derail or crash...I was underneath it :confused3 so why not ride it with him? Nope still do not ride roller coaster nor since then sit close to them :lmao:

I understand some of the fear with seatbelts but I hope you guys know that there's sensors in most of them and they won't start the ride unless all the sensors are "go for launch" so to speak.

I'm way more afraid losing my reservation or confirmation numbers, or even getting sick while at Disney than anything malfunctioning. I won't do Astro Orbiter, not because of the height, but because of the spinning and height together.

Snakes in my bed. Sometimes I make my husband (oh, he is so sweet to pacify me) take all the covers off the bed to check. I can't help it, sometimes it takes over my head and I get all panicky.

Geez, now I sound crazy.

Theme park ride water has always creeped me out. Splash Mountain, PotC, IaSW etc.

I don't know how deep it is. But I can tell you something I do know: I never want to find out.

I only do that at camping. Bugs and snakes. ugh. :scared:

Iam afraid the boat will sink in its a small world. Imagine hearing that "song" for hours and hours and hours. I think it would be like Chinese water torture. Just joking.

On the drive down to WDW I always getting scared that something is going to happen to the car. We drive DW's car and I am not used to it's sounds so I am a nervous wreck the first 2 or 3 hours. My latest fear is coming from a small fluid leak I have noticed in DW's car. The "guy" said it was a minor transmission fluid leak and he put in a sealant type fluid. It appears to have quit leaking.

One trip we had a blow out on I-75. We ended up having to get three new tires. But we made it there only a couple hours behind schedule and we had a nice tip.

I do get OCD with my wallet and the tickets. I am always patting my wallet to make sure it is there.

I'm not an engineer, but it seems to me that if the monorail derails, it will still have some forward motion, so it won't fall directly next to the track.

Not buying it. Those things are heavy. Sure they've got momentum -- meaning they'll fall to the ground close and roughly parallel and then slide. :scared1:

Although personally I'm more worried about getting trapped on one for hours when I'm desperate for the bathroom. But that's not irrational, because it's more likely to happen. ;)

Just in case the agent you get (should you get one) is bad at explaining things, listen to that video of the 6 year old so that YOU can explain it! Do NOT get panicky!

Agreed. Kids are much, much more likely to be disturbed by an invasive exam like that if mom seems panicky. That's may be less likely with autistic kids, who won't be as dependent on social cues, but OTOH some autistic kids don't know how to respond to a new situation and are thus even more dependent on mom's reaction to tell them what's going on. Basically, the more your kid depends on you for their security or for how to respond to new situations, the more important it is to stay calm and tell the kid it's like being at the doctor's -- annoying and unusual, but okay.

That said, I'm still terrified about the same thing every time my kids fly.

the irrational fear of jumping or falling when you are high up is not only a fear of heights, it is a phobia. fear ofcourse is fearing somthing. a phobia is when you start altering your life around things.

i have a phobia of heights that is really starting to hinder my ability to have fun. i have read up on this endlessly and think i should start getting help with it.

with all this being said, here are my irrational disney fears...

being stuck on top of the steep lift hill on everest. yes i still go on it but that first part i white knuckle it.
being stuck where the tracks are ripped up looking over the edge on everest. with these two, the CMs would try to tell me i had to walk off... NO SIR, not me.

the first time i rode soarin and i thought i was going to fall off the whole time. i should have put the little plastic kiddy strap between my legs. i will never ride that ride again. i was literally scared for my life.

the having to use the bathroom on the monorail is a pretty rational fear for me because i have a bad stomach and when i have to go i have to go. the same goes for the crowd at wishes on a busy night. i got stuck in that crowd and almost had a situation :scared1:

as scared of hieghts as i am i dont have a problem with tower of terror. i just dont get that falling feeling in my belly like people say. i get it more on space mountain than TOT.

Palmetto bugs on the water rides. There was one on our boat the first time we ever went to Disney--on POC back in 1976. Now I'm constantly looking for them on water rides. It didn't help that there was a ginormous one crawling out from beneath the wood on the Jungle Cruise platform last time we rode it. It was right by my sister's foot and kept crawling in and out. The CMs were all staring down and edging away--my sister finally asked WHAT they were all looking at and they didn't want to tell us! About midnight on an EMH night and if she hadn't wanted to look brave in front of her grandson, she would have gone running off into the night then and there!

That looks like the most rational fear on this thread. And my new fear. :scared1:

Oh my, I'd forgotten my fear of Dumbo/Magic carpets. I went on them in Paris as a kid and loved it. Went again as an adult and absoultely hated it. I hate heights and didn't feel safe - never again :sad1:

one of my biggest fears (and I know it sounds daft) is when someone is being an idiot on a ride or whatever and they do something they're not supposed to (like stand up etc) & I'm scared I'm going to witness something awful. I don't have kids yet so this is the closest I could probably liken it to.

I have the same kind of fear. I am not afraid of heights when I am alone , but with other people . I have this fear some will fall off and what would I be able to do:scared1: what if I can not help .I have kids and grandkids:eek: My father is head shinker:lmao:and he says I need to get over my control issues.:rotfl2: I wish I could.

I have only planned 2 Disney vacations by myself before and both times I was absolutely TERRIFIED that we would arrive at the resort and would be told that our reservations are for next week...or were last week...:scared1::scared1::scared1::scared1:
