Welcome to the May 2026 exercise thread! (theme to be announced later)

If you’re returning, we’re excited to have you back! If you’re new, welcome to the team! Here’s how it works:

Each person chooses a time goal and posts minutes towards that goal as they exercise. You can post daily or just catch up when you can. You decide what movement counts towards your goal - which can be a nice round total for the month, a specific number that means something to you, or a calculation based on a target number of minutes per day. Since May has 31 days, here are some common conversions:

15 minutes/day = 465
20 minutes/day = 620
30 minutes/day = 930
45 minutes/day = 1395
1 hour/day = 1860

One of the special motivations of our Disney challenge is color changing!
Page one will be updated with individual and team color changes as we make more and more progress:

10% - Blue
25% - Orange
50% - Purple
75% - Pink
90% - Red
100% - Green

We’re officially starting this challenge on May 1st, but if you don’t find the thread until later in the month, you’re still welcome to join! There's no better time than the present to start toward your goals!! Just post your goal and I’ll add you to the list. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions and to check out old threads to see what’s been going on.

Count me in for 1800 again please?

I'm hoping I might get much more than this with all the walking I'll be doing in the parks currently, but thats dependent on how well my fitness tracker measures it!

Starting off with the most famous "Number" -

1777806853385.png

A113 is said to appear in every Pixar film (and a few others) and references the freshman animation classroom number at CalArts (California Institute of the Arts) where many famous animators studied. (It's used today as a graphic design workspace.)

If you ever can't find the A113 in a particular movie, check here for a little help:

660 for me this month! I figure our trip to Disney will get me a ton of walking minutes, but for now I'm playing it safe. Today was 4 hours of walking at the Sheep and Wool festival - I'm giving myself credit for 60 minutes. I know I ask this just about everything other post but why is it so much easier to walk at Disney? :P

Raya - 60/660

I am upping my time again this month as I blew past my goal last month. I am going to go for 620 minutes.

May 1 -- 25
May 2 -- 30 (I got almost 10,000 from lots of little walking throughout the day that my fitbit did not track. so just saying it was 30 minutes)
May 3 -- 37
May 4 -- 36 ( will come back and anything i might do later but I think this will be it for today)

Total -- 128/620

Sun-5/3 - 35
Mon-5/4 - 25
Tue-5/5 - 45
----------------
brings me up to 165/800...

and blue, along with luvpoohandcompany and piglet1979 - Congratulations!! :jumping3::jumping3::jumping3:

I have to admit, I haven't even seen this movie. Have any of you? And if so, did you enjoy it?

I haven’t seen the movie but my grandkids love the music so I pretty much hear Shakira sing “zoo” anytime they’re in the car with me :rotfl:
I look after the kids couple days a week and we have a “ pick a movie” lucky dip bag and I know it’s in there so watching it is in my future 😂
20 minutes walk yesterday
130/800

40 minutes of yoga for me today brings me to 205/800 and orange, joining clappyclaps - congrats and thanks for checking in from your holiday! It gave us a big boost of minutes, and the team is now blue at 1110/5905 and 19%!

Going the other way from the highest-grossing film, I wondered which one cost the least to make? ...

According to Screen Rant, the least expensive Disney animated feature film ever made was Bambi (1942), produced with a budget of just $858,000. (If you're interested, the Screen Rant link includes the top and bottom five, cost-wise, at the time it was was written.)

Some facts about Bambi: (credit IMDb)

Bambi had a run time of only 1 hour and 9 minutes.

  • Trivia
"Man is in the forest" was a code phrase used by Disney's employees when Walt Disney was coming down the hallway.
  • Goofs
Skunks, although not particularly active in winter, do not hibernate.

Our main character had more than one voice in the movie:

Donnie Dunagan played Young Bambi:

Born in Depression-era Texas, Donnie Dunagan moved with his parents to Memphis as a young child. There, as a three-year-old, he was taught to tap dance by a neighbor and entered in a talent contest at the Orpheum Theatre. Donnie won the $100 prize and caught the attention of a movie talent scout in the audience, who arranged for the family to come by train to Hollywood. The blonde moppet made his film debut in "Mother Carey's Chickens" (1938), played the son of the "Son of Frankenstein" (1939) and provided the voice of young Bambi for the 1942 animated classic. Dunagan later became a career Marine (1952-77), serving in Vietnam and working in counter intelligence.

Hardie Albright played Adolescent Bambi.

Hardie Albright's parents had a traveling vaudeville act, in which he made his stage debut at the age of six. He studied drama at Carnegie Tech and was a member of Eva Le Gallienne's repertory theater. He appeared in many Broadway plays before making his film debut in 1931. Appearing in over 50 films, Albright retired from acting in 1948 and took a position as a drama instructor at UCLA, where he authored several books on acting and directing.

Back in the pre-streaming days, films were often re-released in theaters, and Bambi was no exception. You could have seen it during any of these other runs:

Key Theatrical Re-release Dates (US)
December 25, 1947
July 3, 1957
March 25, 1966
June 20, 1975
June 4, 1982
July 15, 1988

First home video release: 1989 (VHS).

I'm pretty sure I saw it in 1975... and became terrified my mom was going to die. (Why do the moms always die in Disney movies?)

Do any of you have memories associated with this movie?

I saw Bambi in 1975 on a trip to London with my mum, sister and 3 of my cousins ( 2 off which lived in London). It was a really big deal for those of us not from London as we rarely got to the cinema as it was in the centre of Belfast and 1975 was the height of “the troubles”. I remember one little kid from the audience started to cry when Bambi’s mum was shot and everyone else said “aww” in unison .
