Anyone else get a larf out of watching Iron Man 2 and seeing the Howard Stark film looking very much like Disney's EPCOT announcement video... not to mention similarities in the model..... and best of all the model of the new element he discovers looking like Spaceship Earth

Guess disney does have a little effect on Marvel after all.

OMG, I'm such a nerd, I was laughing at the Disney connection for days after the movie, even the cheesy song they used for the stark expo sounded like a knock-off of "It's a Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow" I wanted to shout to everyone that it was a giant Disney reference and risk looking like even more of a nerd.

OMG almost forgot about the song. :rotfl:

I was laughing so hard at the beginning of the movie when he put on that film I'm sure I got more than a few strange looks..... heck just the way my wife was looking at me said it all.

The song was written to sound like "It's a Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow" by none other than Richard Sherman... and let's not forget the influence Walt had on the *real* 1964 World's Fair, which is what the Stark Expo was modeled after... (and the same Flushing site)

I went with someone who probably hadn't ever heard the word "Epcot" before, even with them knowing me lol. Yes, as soon as I saw that video I thought of Walt and Epcot. Even the song reminded me of Disney too! I guess it was purposely done.

I thought the same thing. We saw Iron Man 2 at AMC Theaters at DTD the night it opened......I leaned over to my DW and said "You think they have been to Epcot?". Disney is part of our pop culture, past and present!!!

:thumbsup2

What's a larf?

From the Urban Dictionary:
Larf is simply a playful way of spelling laugh. It's good to say that you "larfed" instead of laughed, because, well, laughed is plain and ordinary and is used for every day situations, while larf is the result of something more unexpected and spontaneous. This is the crux of larf's meaning. It is used mostly from unexpected and spontaneous moments.

What's the matter Mitros, you couldn't find some way to complain about crowd size in a post, I'm shocked.

When that song came on, I whispered to my friend "That's totally a tribute to the Carousel of Progress song!" It was so weird because ever since I got back from Disney, There's a Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow just randomly pops into my head at the oddest times... then I go see Iron Man 2 and it just won't go away at all!

But yeah, that and the obvious tribute to Epcot... combining superheroes and Disney, it just warms this comic geek's heart! :goodvibes:lmao:

Haha, that automatically pushed Iron Man 2 onto my favorite movies list. I loved the first one and had doubts the second would live up to hype.

The model, the song, the expo - all were obviously direct references. My husband and I were looking at each other in amazement. We thought it was clever.

Why? Do you have a problem with my expressing my opinion? Or is it only yours that counts? We are ALL entitled to our opinions, friend.........

I saw it too, and I was thinking the song sounded a little like the CoP song.

EPCOT was the first thing that popped into my mind! I thought Starks's dad even looked a little like Walt. Great marriage of Disney and Marvel.

Tell you, between the veiled epcot reference, the Boy Scouts Reference, and the fact that he's a technology geek (like me) named Tony (like me) and with a heart condition (like me), I guess he's bound to be my favorite Super Hero. :)

I think The movie is for children, because they have great special effects but that can't satisfied the adult needs. Actually the film and the story is not like the fist one but still it is great because people love it. If anything noticeable in the film then it is new powers of the iron man.

...... good thing it's a Disney message board... we like kids movies ;)
