I have an iPhone - which I LOVE! I always have plenty of battery life. So, here's my question:

Both my kids have iPod Touches. The batteries in them only last a VERY short period of time. VERY short!! I would wonder if it was just one, but they are both that way. It's really frustrating. Anyone else have a problem with this?

The early Itouches have a shorter life span than the Iphone, Plus depending on what you do with the item shortens the time of batterylife. Like movies and games are much bigger consumers of battery life than reading an ebook or calling.

DH and I both have this problem with our touches. Even when we don't use them the batteries drain very quickly. I'm a big Apple fan but I find this issue to be very irritating!

I know! And they don't even watch movies on them. They just mess with the apps and play games. So frustrating!

Do they actually turn them off of just put them to sleep?

To sleep: press top left or right button quickly.

To turn OFF: press & HOLD the button until device turns off.

Now that DH actually turns his off, the battery lasts much longer.

I have an app for my iphone that will tell me how long my battery will last doing different things..

interesting, right now with 50% battery left,

it says

audio play 16 hours 30 minutes

video play 5 hours 30 minutes

2D game play 2 hours 45 minutes

3D game play 1 hour 39 minutes

so apparently game play draws more on the battery than videos do

If you updated your OS a few months ago, that might be part of the problem. Basically, the wireless keeps running even when in sleep mode periodically checking your mail. Make sure you turn off "push" setting in the e-mail options and use the "airplane mode" to shut off the wireles when not in use.

:thumbsup2 I was going to mention this. I've learned that if I don't actually turn it OFF, the battery drains fast (I think it's always looking for wifi if it isn't off). If I just listen to music and don't mess with wifi and apps, the battery seems to last a LOT longer.

Also if you updated ur OS now apps are open even when you go press the home buuton. YOu have to press home button twice to see what apps are open and then close all of them.

I had this issue and then realized I have more than 21 apps open.

You can buy a replacement battery online. It is a little tricky to replace and it will void any warranty, but once you replace it, it will work like new again.

Well, it depends on the processing needs of the game, but generally speaking I can watch 3 -4 episodes of a TV show - right now I am watching Prison Break on Netflix, and still have some "juice".

I have a game I love to play called GeoDefense, and no way would I even get two hours of play before it would kill my battery.

So, your app is pretty much right on, but I don't think I could EVER get 5 hours of video - maybe 4 tops. It may also be that I have a 2nd gen iTouch. My kids have 4th gen iTouches, and they seem to have better battery life.

It only looks for wifi if you have it looking for wifi. It can easily be shut off under the settings section. Wifi probably cuts battery time by 20%.

I have wifi off on my ipod touch and I'm still amazed how horrible battery performance is. We will be traveling to Europe this spring and this is a major source of entertainment on the flight home (you know, the long one where no one sleeps!). I'm considering using those AmEx rewards points for a new one - is the newer generation battery better ?

(looks like mine is 3rd generation)

grrrrr

Apple is to technology what Disney is to theme parks, cruises and hotels: even when the deliverable regularly falls below expectations, people still worship the brand.

But rather than get into the "zombie" psychology of that, here's a great ad from the Super Bowl that displays it so well:
