IPAD with 16GB ?'s please advise

What kind of videos?

I have movies. They take up room. I also have a lot of photos, over 1,000. I download all my Kindle books to it, have about the same number of songs you do and probably over 50 apps on it.

My issue too is that my kids like to get those HUGE app games.....they take up ROOM!

My youngest son had taken over my 8gb ipod touch and had barely anything on it and it was full. He kept having to delete stuff. I just sold it this week and ordered a 64gb ipod touch for him. He will hopefully never have to delete anything again!

I agree.

A family member has the 8GB, and it is practically full...with five apps on it. There's only 200 photos and hardly any songs. Those things just seem to suck your GBs into a black hole...

I too will disagree that 16gbs is enough if not using it for movies and videos.

As someone stated, the OS is at least 2gbs, and iPad apps are bigger, so that needs to be kept in mind.

We don't have photos, music, videos, music or books on there, just apps and a few 1 second videos that the kids made, and we are almost full.

Honestly, we can't believe the difference between iPods and iPads in regards to the storage space. As MouseEarsForAll said above, they seem to be a black hole!

So I'm just "someone" now? ;) Just kidding. :rotfl:

I have had my 16g for over a year and use it constantly. I use Homeshare for music and video, and put movies on and then remove them if I want to watch when travelling. I have never felt like I wished I had a bigger one.

Yes. My thought is that it is not an ipad. :rotfl:

Saw it in Barnes and Noble this past week. The salesperson: "It's so nice...". Me thinking in my head: "...and the iPad is NICER."

But it does everything an ipad does. and is much more affordable. Apple is kinda full of themselves at times.

Anybody else with actual thoughts on comparing tablets:idea:

I'm not hating on it. :) Happy Feet was playing on it, and the movie looked very nice.

It all just depends on you. For some, they go with other tablets because of the price, storage capabilities, and just general like of the product.

Others go with Apple because they know exactly what they're getting, they like the brand, and they like the products (and don't mind paying more for them).

So, it's a matter of opinion. IMO, go with what you'd think would be better for you. :) I know you'll make the best decision.

An Ipad or any tablet for that matter does not replace a laptop. I love my Ipad for certain apps like diis boards and for checking my email. Also for streaming Hulu and Amazon prime videos.
However, I use my imac or MacBook Pro to type essays and reports and to do my bill pay and quicken apps and to edit my photos.
I prefer my kindle fire for books and magazine articles and my iPod for listening to music or audiobooks when I am exercising.
An ipad is just a convenience.

Anyone have any thoughts on the NOOK HD + 32gb

I actually was looking for insight on these devices. I don't know that much about them. With a little research to me the Apple ipad mini 16gb is nice at 329.00 The Nook HD+ seems to do the same things and I can get 32gb at 299.00 This is for my college daughter so I need reader for some school books music and ability to write papers (Nook app for word 15.00) Movies not real important but seeing SD port on Nook so can have even MORE memory. Am I seeing things wrong ?? Thanks to those who can help.

If your daughter is using primarily in college, I wouldnt worry too much about 16 versus 32. She can save all her stuff on the cloud and still connect to the cloud ( assuming all the buildings on campus have wifi). The only time this is a concern is when using the device where there is no connectivity, such as when she is off campus or on the road, etc. If there is no connectivity, she will only be able to access whatever is saved to the internal storage.

I have to rescind my earlier post. I just looked at the back of mine and it's a 32 gig...I don't think 16 would have been big enough after all.

OP here, thanks for all the insight. I am still on the fence. I make a decision and then second guess myself again.

Thanks for all the advice. Will update when I decide.

I was thinking of a 16GB for myself, but I wonder about your two daughters sharing - will they use up additional space because they have different movie, song, and app preferences, as well as two sets of photos? But as others have said, they have the cloud. Good luck with your decision - it can really be difficult!

My daughters are 7 and 10 so that is why I originally purchased the 16 GB. I don't expect them to have many pictures at that age. I was mainly thinking they would use it to search on the internet, access websites such as IXL, watch movies.

The only time I can see them not having WiFi is when we are on a plane once a year or on a long road trip.

What does the average movie use in GB.

How about the apps such as cut the rope, temple run???

My other option is to buy my oldest a Kindle Fire HD that would be hers alone (my youngest got a new dsi). Any opinions on this?

The IPAD was a combo gift because of the shear cost of it.

IT was so simple when they were younger.

SD movies are about a GB. HD is around 3 GB.

Apps very greatly, but the more graphics and things they have, the higher the amount of MBs (or GBs).

On the Kindle Fire...that might be a good option as well. Unless your kids don't mind sharing, this might be the better route. One minute too long, and "She's taking too long!" starts, especially when they're younger. And, your DD10 might be happier to have something for herself, as her sister does with her DSi. But in the end, it's up to you. HTH.
