invitation for small wedding?

I read the other wedding thread and never finished. Interesting thread. Where I come from (New York) and even that is up for debate, I didn't mind anyone at my wedding ceremony. Ouch!

However, with the cost involved it was worded - "Reception by invitation only" you can indicate number on the acceptance card which is included and pre-stamped. I only had invited 80 and 79 accepted. Have someone at the door with a list.
It worked for me.

Disclaimer: This is Just A Suggestion...

We only had 65 at our wedding, but our wedding invitations had the traditional wording. My mother and MIL had earlier spread the word that it was going to be a very small, intimate wedding, so it was never necessary to change the wording on the invitation.

Thanks for all your posts.
For those who asked, she is having a dinner either in a private room in a restaurant or in a small banquet hall (there may be D.J. if it's at the hall). I like the idea of calling it a dinner, not a reception, if it's at the restaurant.
And like someone posted, it doesn't matter how many you invite, someone will feel slighted.
I'll pass all this info on to her.
