I've been thinking about having my teeth straightened, and I think the Invisalign system might work for me. I don't have any gaps, but I do have a rather vampire-esque look in the front. Have any of you used this system? If so, how did it work for you? Was it really uncomfortable? How expensive was it? And how are the liners secured in your mouth?

I went to an orto about Invisalign, and he told me they wouldn't work for me ... I now have a full set of braces (system R on bottom, porcelain on top). If I remember right, Invisalign was about $6,000, which is more than traditional braces (mine were $5300). But I could be remembering wrong...

I went in for Invisalign for my bottom teeth, which were crowded when my wisdom teeth came in and never went back after the wisdoms were pulled. I was told it wouldn't work on me either. It's apparently not good for crowded teeth unless there are gaps they can shift to.

Before that was determined though, I had been quoted $3500 for the bottoms only. All three of the Orthodontists I consulted recommended I pull a front tooth to create a gap and do regular braces. That is never gonna happen.

I considered Invisalign. I decided against it after my research. You have to take the liners out and brush AND floss every time you eat anything or drink anything other than water. Too much trouble for me! Two, if they don't get the molds done exactly right the first time, they ahve to re-do them, and at my ortho you would have to pay extra for that. Three, depending on how tight th eliners are, they can be really hard to get in and out. I have short stubby fingers, and I think I'm starting to get a little arthritis in my fingers (I'm 41 YO). Knowing me, I'd get the dang thing out and couldn't get it to go back in! Four, sometimes saliva gets trapped inside the liner and you have these bubbles all in it - yuck! Not a good look.

I went with traditional braces w/ clear brackets on top and metal on the bottom. Most people don't even notice my braces. This configuration was also about $800 cheaper than Invisalign, and the treatment time would be the same. For what I'm paying, every dollar counts!

Thanks for the responses. Sounds like maybe the advertising is doing great for regular braces! ;)
