Yesterday my DS and I were at Lowes and we were picking out paint colors (dreaming) for our bedrooms, kitchen, living room and dining room. We picked out mostly Eddie Bauer Home colors and Martha Stewart Living. It has been a while since we had our house painted and I think the painter used Finneran & Haley??

What brands have you all used and liked? I would like an eggshell finish type finish. I get the heebie jeebies when touching walls with flat finish. :scared1: as I also want to be able to wipe them down.

Thanks!

I like Home Depot's Behr paints. I have tried Lowes' Valspar and didn't like it. It was too think or something. I won't buy it again. I'll drive the extra 5 miles to Home Depot when I need paint.

I guess I feel the opposite way. I loved Valspar paint. I used it in my kitchen and am really pleased with the results. I've used Behr paint for most other rooms in my house and while I don't dislike the Behr paint, I really like the Valspar paint.

Benjamin Moore is my favorite, but it is also the most expensive.

If I don't use that, I buy Valspar or American Traditions, followed closely by Behr.

It used to be Benjamin Moore, but the last few rooms we switched to Ace Hardware's "Sensations" and like it a lot. It's excellent paint and extremely cleanable.

One Ace near me always has it on sale, and the other one never, so check around for prices if you use it.

We always use Behr - made the mistake of buying Lowe's American Traditions once, it was like WATER. Literally tinted water. :headache: We took it back to Lowe's and they even agreed it was bad - wouldn't refund or replace because it was custom tinted. Never used paint from Lowe's again.

We've used Sherwin Williams and Behr in the past. Behr is my favorite.

Not cheap, but BM Aura is well worth the money. Wonderful product with all of the attributes associated with a premium paint... Clearly a superior painting experience for me and has become my new standard for high quality interior paint. I'm a firm believer in the old saying to"buy the best and cry only once" and consider it an investment in my home that was well worth it:thumbsup2.

I have used Benjamin Moore and Sherwin Williams paint throughout my new house. Picking paint COLORS, however, is a whole different story!!!! I always fail miserably.......and end up painting over and over until I end up liking the color!

I LOVE the Aura paint.

I also like Benjamin Moore's 'regular' line, Behr is fine, my insurance painters insisted on using Porter and that seems fine so far too.

The only paint I've ever really hated is the American Tradition from Lowe's. When Valspar took over the line it was better but it stunk up the house for weeks. The old residents of our house used Olympic Flat paint and it was HORRID so I'd steer clear of that. I hear bad things about Color Wheel also.

ETA - I really really hated the paint that used to be in our house. They left the cans and it was the yellow Olympic. I went and looked. It would just wash off if you tried to clean it at all. It looked very chalky too. While I wasn't happy with our storm damage from Fay, I was happy to get new paint.

I paint alot. Its like a hobby of mine. In the 3 yrs I've been in my house I've painted each room no less than 2 times... I LOVE Valspar the best! I'm getting ready to repaint the bedrooms I just painted 6 months ago again...

We used Benjamin Moore when we painted our living and dining room. I bit the bullet and spent the extra money for paint. I am so glad that I did. I could not believe how easy the paint went onto the wallls. We will be painting the rest of the house with Benjamin Moore.

I like Behr. It covers a lot in one coat and it is a lower VOC paint so it doesn't make my asthma flare up.

I have a can of Ben Moore waiting to be opened. I had no trouble picking that color. It is a green called spring thaw for DS#2's bedroom. The color I am having the MOST trouble with is BLUE. There are a million blues. I want a 'beachy' blue, that will also blend with a faded denim/chambrey color, although there is not much of that. I bought two samples of Sherwin Williams; "sleepy blue" and "tidewater", unfortunately I like them both, but I think I like tidewater better, a little "greener/grayer", but then I like the other. I have big blue blotches on the wall and I will decide perhaps tomorrow when the sun comes up, or I will just finish polyurethaning bedrooom #3 and start painting bedroom #2. I am going to be a neater painter however. It was a pain cleaning the little drips off of the woodwork from previous attempts. Color is going to be tough for me, everything has been "dover white" (Sherwin Williams). Now that I have a can o Ben Moore, I will see which is easier.;)

LOVE LOVE LOVE Kilz brand paint from Walmart. It already has primer in it so it will cover almost ANY color in only one coat. Looks great as well. I have never used Benjamin Moore paint so I can't comment on that but I have used Sherwin Williams and I much much prefer the Kilz paint ! It's also half the price of many other paints and you use less because one coat usually does the trick! I honestly cannot say enough good things about this paint!!!

Benjamin Moore

remember that walls should be flat or eggshell, ceilings flat, trim semi-gloss

The biggest mistake is to use the wrong finish. Flat paint absorbs light and pulls walls and ceiling back making the room larger. semi-gloss can be easily washed. Eggshell is more washable but the sheen can make the walls close in a little.
