Interesting DCL survey

I'm going to have to play around with the DCL survey and see if I can get that survey. I would love to tell them exactly what I think if their European prices. I booked the NCL Getaway Baltic cruise verandah room for 4 with free drinks for 5032 9 night cruise. DCL 10 Baltic cruise the same week is 11k more. The service may not be as good on NCL and I may get nickled and dimed a bit... but seriously 11k. At least the Getaway is new ship with lots to do, and the toilets probably flush....if you have been on the Magic you know what I'm talking about.
It's sad to me that DCL prices are so outrageous I'm wiling to pay more, but not that much more.

As far as Australia goes their Summer season is our Winter. I can't see DCL selling a lot of cruises to Americans out of Australia. When DCL's new ships are built I could see them putting a ship in China and moving it to Australia Dec through March. That is what Royal is doing with their new ship Ovation of the Seas. Are the Chinese and Aussies going to pay the mark up for DCL? I'm looking at a 8 day cruise out of Sydney Jan 2018 on Ovation a verandah for four people is 4,300. I can't see DCL competing with those prices. They would probably charge double at the least. Are Aussies willing to pay that. I don't know.
Aussie here.
Where is your 8 day cruise out of Sydney going?
Aussies are big on cruises, but as you said re DCL prices, not sure how they will take to that lol.
Also P & 0 and Carnival cruises down here, they charge everything in Aussie dollars and not USD like RC and the others do. Also no tipping on the first two I mentioned.

Would be interesting if DCL did come down, how well they would be received, I am thinking probably will be a hit.

There's a few I'm looking. There's a 10 day that goes to New Zealand that was a little under 6k and two 8 days. One goes to some Isands mystery Island rings a bell, and the 8 day I was looking at goes to Hobart, and Adelaide(overnights).
I don't see Australia on the Carnival site. It may be something only open to Australians? I think DCL would be a hit if they don't price their cruises like their European cruises.

I was trying to time it during the Australian school break so my kids would have some company or does that matter? Are Australians like Americans and pull their kids out school for cruises?

FYI @Ofinn my survey popped up when I was looking at excursion options. I wasn't pricing out future trips or anything. Pretty sure I was still logged in, and I do have an upcoming cruise already booked (not paid in full yet though).

I'm always mildly surprised how many Australians go to the parks in the US. Tokyo is closer to them than Anaheim, and certainly much closer than Orlando. Plus there are obviously TONS of hardcore Asian Disney fans. I'd expect that fan set to be willing to pay high prices for the Disney magic, potentially even those who would never consider a cruise if it weren't Disney. At the very least, I expect Disney to try and find out how high they can price cruises and still fill them, knowing their fan base better than we do.

A lot of us do go to Tokyo as well. Whenever I visit Tokyo Disney Resort I bump into several Australians along the way. There's probably less of an online presence about it because it's a non-English speaking resort and most Disney discussion either occurs in Japanese or about the US parks.

That makes complete sense! And also - I'm totally jealous. We'd love to go to the parks in Tokyo. In which case, I'd be the oddball American going there instead of the US parks, ha! Nothing but love for the US parks, but it would be wonderful to experience new parks. Some day!

I occasionally meet Americans at Tokyo as well. We bumped into a lovely family over Xmas last year who decided that after touring Tokyo DisneySea, the US parks would never seem as well imagined. I agree. The Oriental Land Company just throw money at that resort and it shows.

Oh yeah ok, yeh I think if you google Carnival Australia it will come up, but anyone can book these cruises.
Mystery Island is on the itenerays around the Pacific Islands.
Yes , Aussies pull their kids out of school all the time to travel, especially as our main school holidays is in Dec/Jan when they get 6 weeks off, but it is winter in nearly the rest of the world.
Other school holidays are , April, July, Sept , where they have 2 weeks off each time.
But people still pull them out to travel other times as it is cheaper.

While his insider info is probably as reliable as a WDW bus driver's, my server on the Fantasy last June told me her was told by superiors DCL intends to base one of the new ships in Asia. If there is any truth to that, I don't think it'd be the new ships but either the Magic or Wonder first.

At the last several Castaway Club receptions, the captains have strongly hinted at porting a ship in Asia. I'd bet good money on it and I'm not a betting person.

I got the same survey on the main page. Here are a couple screenshots.

I got the same survey. Exciting to contemplate new itineraries and ports. Now if only they'd release them a little farther out. Nah...now I'm just dreaming :)

I am not surprised dcl seems to have trouble filling their European cruises. Not worried about terrorism but would not do Europe because of the chaos there. I saw an article the other day about how a Chinese tourist went to report a stolen wallet in Germany and somehow ended up in a migrant camp for two weeks. That would be an adventure but I'm not sure I am so adventurous. Also.... hate flying... and hate paying to fly. Looked at airfare for the transatlantic-- no thanks. Rather take an additional cruise than pay for that. When we bite the bullet and do a serious plane trip it won't be to Europe. It will be to Hawaii or Australia.

I was on the Magic when they announced the two new ships. During the announcement they said that at least one would be based in Asia somewhere. No bus driver needed & we didn't hear it from the wait staff. They announced it on the ship on the main deck during the Sail Away Party.

No, they usually bump me off the survey once they get my particulars "Sorry, you don't fit the demographics we're looking for. Thank you."

same thing usually happens to me....(they don't like my location apparently)...
so sometimes i lie about where i'm located just so that i can answer the survey :)

Very interesting! I am intrigued by their questioning whether you wouldn't take a European cruise because of pricing! Maybe they are catching on.........finally.

I am in the survey now and this is what popped up:
Prior to visiting Disneycruise.com today, which of the following destinations, if any, were you aware are places Disney Cruise Line sails?
South America
Australia
Norwegian Fjords and Iceland
Northern Europe
British Isles
Bahamas
Alaska
Caribbean
Western Europe
Mediterranean
Hawaii
None of the above

Disney Cruise Line will be sailing the itineraries below from May through September 2017 with prices starting at around $2,500 (for a 7-night Mediterranean cruise from Barcelona for 2 adults).

Mediterranean
Northern Europe
Norwegian Fjords and Iceland
Western Europe
British Isles

How likely are you to book a European Disney cruise for 2017?
Definitely would
Probably would
Might or might not
Probably would not
Definitely would not

maybe once they bring the new ships online, they'll have enough capacity to allow for lower prices...
for now, they're charging the prices that they can....
it's a law of economics.....pricing is whatever the market will bear..
