Interesting call with MS this morning.

I called to check availability for a studio at OKW check in Wed 10/24 – check out Sun 10/28 – nothing there, said that Thurs was all booked up. Asked to check SSR, she said she might be able to book it but would have to call the resort to confirm??

Since we were just checking, and haven’t confirmed plans, I passed on this option.

She stated that with the PGA Golf event, almost all the Thursday availability is gone.

I just thought that the comment, “Have to call the SSR direct to confirm” was strange.

Any thoughts or did I just get an inexperienced CM?

Perhaps there was a notation in the system that some rooms would be out of service for schedulaed maintence, followed maybe by another notation that maintanance had been delayed/rescheduled? It could even be that a hold was put on some rooms specifically for the event, and they needed fewer than they had in holding.

Chuck S,

Sounds reasonable to me.. Didn't really think about the event block/maintenance/refurb options.

Thanks for the perspective.

Seems to me that w/the new SSR Grandstand building opening up -- they had projected the fall, but now folks are saying June or July -- the CM might have wanted to check on that to determine when new availability at SSR might be coming online?

Her comment sounds odd to me - this year's PGA Golf Tournament is Nov 1 -4. Perhaps the golfers come in that early to qualify for it, but wouldn't the bulk of the spectators want to see the tournament?

This far out likely checking on availability of yet undeclared inventory. This also happens inside the 60 day window related to breakage inventory.

From my experience last year during the tournament, a lot of golfers and their families stay at SSR before, during and after the tournament (I was staying there also and saw many of them loading the clubs in the cars in the mornings). So....they may be holding rooms for golfers and will release more once they know how many will stay there. Just a thought.

That is weird! Last week I called for availabilty for those exact dates for a 2 BR at OKW. Could get all dates but that Thursday. Didn't know there was a golf ditty going on!! Our plans are being bumped up a week to 10/17-10/21.

I have had occasions where MS has had to call the resort directly to confirm availability in almost booked dates.

I also know that when you call to check on rooms without making a reservation, and call back later, the availability can change drastically. Learned my lesson lol.

I actually find this funny that there would be a room issue. Majority of the PGA professionals that golf in the Tournament actually live in the Orlando area. I am sure that majority of them can afford to stay at the resort, I just find it odd that the touring pro's would stay at a Disney resort when they live right in the Orlando area. I am sure that they have a tournament the week prior to the Disney event. I am sure there is another issue that causes a room problem. Just my thoughts.

I agree that the golf tournament can't be the reason SSR is full for that time frame - unless of course, all those golfers and their families are DVC owners or rented DVC points. Disney can only "hold a block of rooms" from CRO inventory, they can't take member inventory!

I had this happen ~ 5 times when booking regular Disney resorts (1982 - 2000) and ~3 times when booking DVC properties....... it happened when booking a recent trip. After awhile, I came to believe that these CMs were going the extra mile for me and knew some tricks.
