I saw it mentioned on reddit that it is possible to call member services to get on a list of people who have interest in buying at the new DLH tower. We're planning to buy that as soon as we are able. Does anyone have experience doing this? Is there any reason to do it?

While I think it will sell out faster than any resort in years, I think it will still take longer than VGC (about 1 year), as that was about 1/3 the points (based on my own estimate of DLH points based on the room types). Especially if they are greedy with pricing - as I covered in another thread, if they price it similar to current VGC pricing with a more aggressive point chart, you're probably better off paying cash, plus, the cash rooms are closer to the parks.

It looks like it still makes sense to buy at the DLH tower instead of paying cash at Grand Californian as long as the points cost for the rooms are similar to the current Grand Californian points cost. Here's what I came up with when I ran the numbers:

Initial CostAdventureChoiceMagicPremier
$200
$195.13
$225.94
$287.56
$328.64
$210
$198.93
$230.34
$293.16
$335.04
$220
$202.73
$234.74
$298.76
$341.44
$230
$206.53
$239.14
$304.36
$347.84
$240
$210.33
$243.54
$309.96
$354.24

I believe Grand Californian rooms will almost always cost in excess of $500 per night and usually significantly more than that.

Our guide is/was well aware of our desire to own at CA. We reiterated that interest when word started to come out about the new tower. We will for sure purchase a small contract when that goes live, as I assume a lot of other current owners will as well.

Yes but DLH rooms are usually more like $400 and up and are the more relevant comparison.

It'll be interesting to see the pricing and how long it takes to sell out. I would think trip lengths on average would be much shorter for DLH than WDW DVC resorts and most of the units are studios. Buyers will likely want smaller contracts because of this.

I might go ahead and give the guide we talked with back in November a call and express our interest. We're definitely saving up to buy in direct with this one.

Yes, It will be hard to justify more than 100 points for most buyers who don’t live in California, Las Vegas or Phoenix.

I want to buy there too. Thinking about 100 points (which is the amount I have for VGC) to give me maybe another 3-4 days per year on property there. My resale broker friend told me to call and get my name on the list as she thinks it will sell super fast. I have not had a chance to find my guide's number to call him yet. I will be doing so though. I don't want to miss out. But then again, I am thinking resale there will not be so bad (if they have the Riviera restrictions) since I would only use those points there (like I only use my VGC at VGC). I have other SAP points to use for other trips as needed.

I can't imagine a situation where it sells so fast you can't just call after it gets released. In addition I would expect current DVC members get first shot at adding on anyways.

I think everyone is overhyping it because they don't understand how expensive it is going to be.

$200/point with studios costing 175-185 points for the week in the fall (cheaper time of year). In comparison VGC is 148 points for those same weeks. Possibly we see the VGC point chart for studios equal those pod rooms.

I emailed our guide but never heard back, I know she was flooded with Covid related stuff but who knows, I'm sure we'll have time to jump on board.

I'll probably be looking to add on enough for say 2 days in a studio a year, we mostly do WDW so it would just be for our quick fix / meeting family at DLR is easier, I'm concerned bout the re sale restrictions however if any resort stands a chance at retaining value anyway its going to be this one.

Are you sure your guide is even working? Its still a small sales staff still that has been called back last I checked.

I let my guide know I’m interested and he said once it’s official, he’ll add me to the interest list. He also confirmed that current DVC members will get first dibs. I live in Arizona and I know several people on the west coast who are interested.

Do you know if that means all DVC owners or just blue card owners?

Pretty sure its all members as thats how the pricing works now and pretty sure how it worked with RIV as well for pre-release.

I just wouldn't worry and keep following the boards here because in another 36-48 months when it goes on sale it will be all over this plus likely getting emails if you are a member today.

I wonder if DVD uses this "list" to gauge general interest. If there is a good number of people expressing interests, I won't be surprised for the price to start really high and see how the market tolerate it. DVD can always offer incentives to lower the "actual" cost per point if it's priced too high to start.

So you think by expressing interest, we may actually be raising the cost? I am interested, but don't want to look so eager, that I pay or make others pay more.

There is always potential that this will be the case but I also know Disney has more ways than just a list to gauge interest. As an example they will be sending out marketing material on this resort and they will see things like click rates, view times, what parts of the page people are viewing, how often that person comes back, ect.

So Disney can really collect the interest about the resort without needing a list.
