Instead of MNSSHP try Haunted Carriage Rides

For those going during Oct:

Haunted Carriage Rides at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Campground offer thrills during this Halloween season without being too scary for most kids to enjoy.

We began our adventure Friday, the opening night, at the Blacksmith’s Shop. After checking in, we were encouraged to walk around and see the horses and memorabilia in the barn. When it was our turn, we climbed into one of four open carriages and headed out past Pioneer Hall and the Settlement Trading Post and into the woods.

The driver started the telling of “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” before a recorded narrator picked up the tale, as the carriages traveled through the trees and along the shore of Bay Lake, stopping at key places mentioned in the story.

For my children, ages 7 and 9, there was nervous anticipation leading up to the appearance of the headless horseman. But there was no fear on the 25-minute ride. This is Walt Disney World, after all. Be aware, however, that the woods can be dark, depending on what time your ride occurs, and that can certainly affect small children.

If your teenager is looking for things that go bump in the night, it won’t happen on the Haunted Carriage Ride. For that, you’ll need to check out Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios.

Disney’s Haunted Carriage Rides continue daily through Oct. 31, leaving on the half hour from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. The cost is $60 per carriage, which holds four adults or two adults and three children. Call 407-939-7529 to make a reservation.

A tip: Many of the days are already sold out, but cast members told me they will take names for waiting lists because additional rides may be scheduled on busy nights. Those on the waiting lists will be notified by 4 p.m. the day of the ride.

We did the Haunted Carriage ride on Sun. and got such a kick out of it. We feared something was going to jump out in the night and just as we relaxed and felt we'd escaped we got our scary surprise. What fun it was. Recommend it highly.

Sounds like a lot of fun. I tried to make a reservation for next week... unfortunately they're booked solid our entire stay.

Thank you! We've done MNSSHP in the past, and it sounds like it is disappointing this year! Doing the haunted carriage sounds instead sounds like a great idea! Hopefully, I'll be able to get a reservation for my kids and myself!

I didn't try Friday. We'll be leaving before the first ride starts.

DW & I have so enjoyed the carriage rides during the Christmas holidays, too!

Maybe they will run the carriage riddes during the Flower Festival or Food & Wine. Anybody know if they run carriage rides more often?

Thanks for the tip and the phone number. I'm going to WDW in November - might try it myself, especially if all the rumors about the forthcoming FW DVC are true. It'll be fun to figure out where all of it would go.

We've done both the Halloween and Christmas carriage rides and enjoyed both of them. I have to say I liked the Christmas ride a bit better though. It seemed more festive to me, especially seeing the holiday decorations in the Wilderness campgrounds. The Halloween ride is very much in the dark so there is less to see on it. The story line is a good one though.

I'd add that the cost of the ride is all that you pay because the CM's won't accept tips. I tried.

This sounds like fun. Darn the luck, though. They're all booked up on the nights we're there. :(

Thanks so much for starting this thread! Finding new things to do gets tougher every trip, but I just booked a Christmas ride! The CM said these were filling fast. There was nothing left for my night between 6:30 and 9:00, so call soon if you're thinking about it.

We have done this three times and loved it every time! I highly recommend it to anyone looking for something different to do! :thumbsup2:thumbsup2
