Inspired by threads like... and don't you dare disagree with me.

Please expand on this, I'm not following you.
Perhaps I took what you said out of context, but what I thought you said was that people tend not to vent about things without "reason" -- my point being that one person's reason may not be sufficient justification for more than an expression of personal dissatisfaction.

You and your husband are being fiscally responsible. :wave2: It is just amazing to me how many people fail to manage their own money and finances. Obviously, if you are carrying a credit card balance or getting more than $500.00 back as an income tax refund, you need to pay closer attention to your income and expenditures.

So this was posted on the tax refund thread. The one that has been refferred to here.
Could anyone explain to me why someone would really need to say this? I find it rude myself.

Wasn't there a poll like this awhile back? Something to the effect of "do you own your thread" - i.e. can you tell people how they are "allowed" to respond to a thread you start.

Pretty much all message boards I've ever visited have their share of arguments and sometimes name-calling. You should see the posts on my figure-skating discussion board! I've never read anything on the DIS as impassioned as an argument between a Michelle Kwan fan and an Irina Slutskaya fan.

But I digress. My favorite board is one in which the only "rule" is that no one is allowed to complain that they are offended. Now whether this makes us all more polite, or just weeds out the thin-skinned, I don't know, but it is a shockingly free-from-attacks board.

Bicker, I never thought you would use the word snarky. :rotfl2:

Carry on, it just made me giggle.

But was it in the #10 sort of way??? :rotfl2:

While I don't think anyone needs to pretend they rule any thread they start, I can understand how discouraged some people would feel when they start a thread for one purpose and discover when they check in later that all 20 responses to their thread are involved in telling them that they're a moron. Yeah, um, if I wanted to be called a moron for everything I did I'd go back several years and relive my high school Driver's Ed course (boy, was THAT a rough semester). :scared1:

I think, generally, I try to go with the general idea the OP was trying to hit at (unless I arrive after the thread is completely sidetracked and find something truly silly I can't help but comment on, but I try to stay away even then, if I can help it).

I haven't been here long, but I've seen some truly great examples of 'guy wanders into a forum looking for opinions on something seemingly harmless and immediately gets his rear handed to him by some insufferably self-righteous group.' Eesh.. Makes you worry before you start a thread. You might end up like this guy ---> :duck:

And for future referance......any thread title wirh "Don't flame me but...." is considered an open invitation for a free for all.

(in the same sort of way as on Trading Spaces a homeowner says "no matter what, don't touch this" is translated into "touch me first" :rotfl2: )

Me either. :rotfl:

But snarky is the next flamed. A word so mis-used and overused that it loses any meaning.

Yep, ranks right up there with saying "no offense" and following it up with something offensive.

Hey, I used to respect the word snarky ;) , but not any more. Can't help but laugh now when I see the word... And if anyone doesn't know what we're talking about do a snarky search. :rotfl:

No offense Bicker, but it seems we take issue with your word choice. We demand a substitute adjective immediatly. ::yes::

This is a really interesting thread. I know I posted a "please don't respond this way" thread recently. My thought being that I wanted to have responses that were actually answering my question, not insulting me for my basic beliefs. People on that thread who did answer my question also told me that they thought my attitude was in the wrong. That was okay with me because they were addressing the actual question. One thing I learned though--and shoould have known before is that it is irrelevant to aks people not to respond in a certain way because they will if they want to. Overall, I guess my thought is that if you post on a public BB you are open to whomever wants to respond in whatever way they want to respond.

Oh I know!! Everytime I see snarky all I can think of it #10....BAD mental image :rotfl2:

Okay, I promise: I don't mean it the wrong way. :)

I will post what I want. No OP is going to dictate it. If you don't want opinions, then don't post at all. That is the only way got get the answer that you want. Just because I disagree with you does not mean I am trying to prove I am superior, flame you or whatever. I may just see it differently based on my life experiences.
