I hope this sort of question hasnt' been posted yet, sorry if it has! I was just wondering if anyone had kids doing TV, or modeling, or pageants. I was interested in getting DD into modeling, but I'm kind of hesitant. How about you guys?

My daughter is signed with a local agency. She has made two commercials (Hy-Vee grocery store and one for Hallmark). PM if you would like specific information about how to start and such. My daughter loves it and with her first "paycheck" she decided to add a night onto our first trip to WDW last summer so we got to stay an extra day! Half her money goes to the bank and the other half we use for dance competitions that she loves to go to and are always held out of town.

Our oldest daughter was in "the business." She had many auditions, but would refuse to talk to the scouts when on camera! Now, of course, she asks why we didn't "let" her do any commericals!

My DS4 is with a local modeling agency. He has done print work for Fleet Farm (or Farm and Fleet, for some of you) and for Thrivent Financial (an insurance company). He doesn't do a whole lot of work, which is totally fine with me, but he loves doing it, and that is what is most important.

I've had a couple of coworkers with kid/grandkids in the business. One of them had a daughter who worked in the Chicago area, so I know that they do have a fair amount of work. Your DD is adorable and would probably do well. The other lady has grandchildren who live in the LA area. Their mother is their agent, and they all do very well with acting and modeling. The kids are great kids, extremely bright and articulate, very well rounded, etc. I've met them all while they were out visiting.

If the only exposure I had was the showbiz moms and dads show, I'd say "No way would I want my sweet baby exposed to that!" but I know that in real life, modeling and acting can be a wonderful way for a child to save a fair nest egg which could be used in the future.

Good luck!

The older kids had a great agent when they were little... Chris was featured in an Isizu commerical (I still have it on tape) and Emily did print work. It was so much work to drive them all over tarnation and back that I eventually stopped doig it...

Emily now wants to do it again but we live farther from where I would have to take her.

I was told both of my kids should have been models, but never really considered it.

I went to one model audition with my sister (for her daughter) and submitted a wallet snapshot of my daughter just to see what would happen. They immediately called and wanted her, but it just didn't seem like something I wanted her to do. Now I wonder if I made a mistake.

My other daughter has that face that just seems to be made for photos. Wherever we go people take pictures of her. We always laugh about it because she just turned nine and she has had her picture is more than 10 newspapers.:teeth:

My DD doesn't but we have been hounded by this one agent and agency since she was 6 months old. She calls a few times a year asking if we've changed our minds.

DH wants me to get DD into the business. She loves to sing and wants to model and "be on TV" but, I'm hesitant. DH works for Verizon in Manhattan and had a job at a top agency. He showed DD"s picture and they were interested. They wanted head shots but I never followed through. I have another child who has been a really sick baby. I just don't see how I could run around NYC for auditions and such.

I have first hand experience with this because I was a model as a child. From the age of 8mo I did commercials and print work. My mom and I were all over NYC all the time and I absolutely hated it. At 7yo I just didn't want to do it anymore. The money made was spent on furniture for my room and the rest my mom saved and gave me when I was 18yo. I was able to buy a car with it. It was worth it for that! My mom never really forced me but it was her choice to get me involved. I never asked.

I just don't want to be one of those show biz moms and I want to protect my daughter from the bold rejections she may have to face. Some people are harsh and I don't want her to ever feel less than because she wasn't picked for something.

However, she is so beautiful and talented and really wants to do it. I don't want to hold her back if this is what she wants to seriously do in the future.

How do you even go about doing it? Not pageants, but modeling/acting?

My sister and I did some print modeling when we were teens. She liked it a lot more than I did, I never could stand all the fuss required for one good picture.

A caution to those who are interested in putting their kids in modeling -- be selective! There are lots of shady people in the business.

I hear all the time that I should get my daughter into modeling, but to me she is way too young (23 months). I want her to be a child (I am in no way criticizing people that do choose this for their children, it is just my personal choice). If, when she gets older, and expresses interest in it herself then I would consider it.

My Mom was a model when she was a child and teen ager and I started modeling when I was 2 and then entered pageants (Miss Illinois 3rd runner up....not too shabby!! lol) and such (and wouldn't have traded the experience for anything in the entire world, the travelling, meeting people, the worldliness, the experience, and not to mention the money is amazing). I think it was a great experience and still do modeling part time (since I'm between Chicago and Orlando) and I wish the best to anyone who is interested in it. But just be careful with agents and photographers you really need to know who you're dealing with and be sure to check out their reputation....it can be pretty ugly out there and you can be 'taken' so just be aware and good luck!
