We have always had joint checking accounts (this is not a thread to start a debate on whether or not you should have a joint account). I have always ordered the checks, and always put Stephen's name first. About a month or so ago, we needed more checks, and Stephen was doing the ordering. While he was filling out the order form he turned and asked if I wanted my name first. For some reason, that made me so happy. I said yes, so, now, on both checking accounts (we have a spending account and bills account) my name comes first. I also just got a cell phone on my name alone, and it was fun too. Got the credit check in my name and everything. First time in 22 years!

My SO's does. He's been banking at that bank longer than I have, so I guess that's why I let his name be first.;) He's never ever written a check though.

DH's but I had never really thought about it before. Hmmmm.

DH's name is first. The first time we ordered checks, we got them from the bank when we set up the account, and they didn't ask. I get my checks from somewhere else now, but I never changed it. I don't mind my name being second, even though DH doesn't even know where I keep the checkbook.

Gawrsh! I inspired someone todday!

My name is first because we kept my account. :)

When my DW learns how to balance a checkbook, then I'll put her name first:) :) :) :) :) .

Hey, btw, why is the standard convention, MR. AND MRS. ??????..................... Perhaps it should be MRS. AND MR. :) :) :) :) :) ..........

Mrs. and Mr., I like that!

I don't even have a clue. We use a check card and do most of the bill paying online. I don't think it really matters though. I do all the spending.;) :p

Last checking account I started putting my name first. It seems banks automatically put the man's name first so I decided I wanted to be first. My Dh has always been the money-maker in the family so he is always first on everything else ( bank mortgage, car loans, etc) so I wanted to be first on something. :D

My husband never writes checks. He does know his way around a debit card quite well, though!!;)
I don't think he has balanced a check book in 24 years. He just hands me his pay check and his ATM and debit reciepts. I get to have all the fun spending and balancing.

John is first and he hardly ever writes a check...LOL! I pay all the bills and do all the shopping so maybe I should go first. Hey I'm with Keli, EROS....I like Mrs. and Mr.

his name is first...but he doesn't write checks! i make him use the debit card more than i do though...

DH opened the checking account when he was 16, then in '75 when we got married my name was added, so his name is first on the account, doesn't matter to me. We have a savings account too but it's in my name only, even though we both regularly deposit into it for our upcoming vacation/cruises in January. The farm/house is in both our names, but my vehicle is in my name and his two pick-up trucks are in his name. The cell phones are in my name, plus I have my own Visa, Penneys, Fashion Bug and Best Buy cards. A few years ago I got to thinking that I really didn't have any credit at all in just my own name, so that's why I stepped out and started the ball rolling. :D

At MY bank, my name is first. At DW's bank, HER name is first...
:)

My fiance and I don't have joint accounts yet, but we have a plan (I must admit to being an obsessed advance planner, LOL!). We plan to each have our own accounts with our own name first (to make balancing and keeping up with expenditures easier), but each be joint signers on the others account in case of emergencies. My fiance has decided that as the organized one, I will be doing the bookeeping, LOL!

My name is first on everything... mostly because they were mine originally and he doesn't even use checks on one of the checking accounts. We just share one checking account and one savings account and he has his own checking account that he has kept.

EAD, Congratulations on your upcoming marriage!!!!!!!:D

I'd put in a vote for having just one JOINT checking account together. Of course, I know that couples handle this issue differently. As least for us, we've never segregated "my" money from my "DW's" money............it's all "one pot". We do allocate an allowance for ourselves each week, and we have an agreement NOT to spend more than $100 without first speaking to each other about the purchase.

Good Luck,

We had separate accounts at separate banks way before we met so we just kept it that way......even though it is understood that my money is MY money and my DH's money is MY money, too!!! LOL:jester: :bounce:
