I am just wondering if those of you who have children facing huge tuition fees have ever considered a Canadian university. Certainly there are many fine ones. McGill, University of Ottawa, Simon Fraser, to name a few. I read recently that a year at the University of Toronto, residence included, cost a student from outside Canada in the region of 13 thousand a year. A brief search brought up the tuition fees for Ontario universities:

http://www.canadian-universities.net/Campus/Tuition-Fees-Ontario.html

These are in Canadian dollars of course.

I know a lot of students from NY, where I now live, take advantage of the comparitively low cost, but definitely not inferior, Canadian education, and just wondered if it had ever hit anyone else's radar screen.

I met a couple of americans while in London a year or so ago, who were going to school there for just this same reason. They reported that, even with the (at that time) 1.5 exchange rate, that out of country tuition at Oxford was about the same as a state University in Tx.

My younger son is going about as far away as possible (California, and we live in Florida) but we never thought about Canada.

USC's cost is over $40,000 per year, but fortunately he received a very nice scholarship. We'll still pay a lot, but not as bad as it could have been.

I think many more would consider it if they knew the difference in cost. I did read that the Canadian universities were down here recruiting in recent years. I always check out anyone's degree that is hanging on their wall, and it does surprise me how many of them say Canada.

i grew up in upstate ny and several of my friends attended canadian schools. one is actually going to mcgill now for grad school.

I would have loved to go to Magil. I got in, but my mom said no. But heck...you graduate in 3 years! Whoo Hooo

Hey do they give loans to people who want to return as adult grad students? Americans, that is?:sunny:

Congrats on the scholarship! This is a single parent's nighmare. I'm just going to close this thread and not come back. DS is only 11, and I've told him he better have the grades for scholarships! :faint:

In-state tuition at North Carolina state universities is less than that, although it doesn't seem cheap when you're writing the check.
