For those of you who are" Polar Express "fans, has anyone seen the pre-views? I saw them before Harry Potter this summer and I have the feeling they are going to totally blow it. Of course it is a short book but it seemed to me that they stuck in a bunch of singing and dancing that does for some reason not follow the Van Alsberg's tone. It is one of my favorite books and I CANNOT read the last lines without crying. Of couse little kids who see the movie will not really get the significance of the lines about hearing the bells. Still I hope they maintain the feeling in the book and not glitz it up.

I think the previews look promising. I will be going with the kids and looking forward to the movie. I can understand you aprehension but remember the book and your imagination can never be topped by someone doing a movie of the same book.

I know you are right. Maybe I will not see the movie. I am such a big Van Allsberg fan but then again, Jumanji (movie)was faithful to the book.

I know we will see it, only because my kids LOVE the book. I dont think it will do the book justice, but they will enjoy it. I was just talking to my DS(11) about the book and how when he was 2 I can remember reading the story over and over and over to him all summer, it was his favorite. It is definitely a well loved book in our home...we read it every Christmas Eve instead of Twas the Night Before Christmas.

Hi,
I teach kindergarten and I read this book every year. I usually have one or two children who don't believe until I read this book.
I'm looking forward to seeing the movie and Tom Hanks will do a super job.

We will see the movie. We will be in Disney thru Christmas and we are planning to see a movie Christmas day in DD (our tradition at home anyway) so it might be this one.

My middle son's 2nd grade teacher read this book during the 'winter is here' party (can't call it Christmas party) and did the neatest thing. While the kids got washed up and ready for snack, she asked all the parent volunteers to place a bell (appx size of a marble) in the pocket of each child's coat. At the end of the party when the kids were being dismissed for their buses the kids started to discover the jingling and found the bells. It was really cute and their reactions and smiles were wonderful.
