Insect and jellyfish repellent on the boat?

Hi!!

We are flying to Orlando, so it's not easy for us to bring any kind of fluids to go on vacation.

I just read that you can buy sunscreen lotion on board of the ships but I was wondering about the insect repellent that is highly recommended to wear in the Bahamas. And jellyfish and sea lice repellent when you swim.

I was wondering if those products were available on the boat and if it is available, where we can buy it?

We were onboard the Fantasy in October and we saw it there! Our friends had gone to a lot of trouble to get it ahead of time!

Insect repellent, I could find ahead of time but would be hard to cross border with.

But there are not a lot of Jellyfishes in my country...

Order sea safe off amazon & pack it. It's very easy to do.

Lot's of jellyfish here in NB! Just not the kind that are found down south. That's what our friends wanted to do (amazon), but ended up having someone from our cruise meet thread pick up a bottle for them to save on shipping. The season wasn't too active and we didn't need it, but it was available for sale onboard.

We can't bring anything bigger than 100 ml in our luggage. So we can't even bring a bottle of sunscreen. We have to bring samples or small travel size. Most of the time we end up buying in Orlando.

EDIT: 100ml is for carry-ons. Somebody pinpointed me the right link for checked luggage so i know now that if we bring a suitcase, we can bring the lotion.

Also I think I read somewhere that the Kids Sea Safe goes on a little easier and works just as well.

I wouldnt worry too much about jellyfish.... I mean the only experience I have is a year in Australia swimming amongst them and not being stung...but I have zero idea what kind are around down south of us...
Also you should be able to pack any liquids over the carry on amount in checked baggage...? Unless you aren't checking any baggage maybe?

Just checked Amazon. The smallest size I could find was 118 ml. Which is 18 ml higher than what is permitted (in carry-on).

And yes, if I try to bring it, they will throw it away.

We've been to Nassau and Castaway Cay multiple times in different times of the year (Dec, Jan, April, May, June, July) and never run into any issues with either sea lice or biting insects. There was a major infestation of love bugs in May prior to the transatlantic, but they were gone by the next day - and deck areas were closed so no need for repellant! Once the ship is in motion, the breeze it too much for most bugs so they're really only an issue in port - and so far we've never really had a problem.

If it's available on the ship, I'd say not to worry about it - purchase it if you feel the need once you're there. You may decide you don't need it and be able to use the money for something more fun that way!

That said - the Air Canada restriction sounds odd - in the US, TSA has a limit of 100ml in carry-on luggage (and you can bring more of medically necessary liquids, like contact solution or formula, etc), but no limit on bottle size in checked luggage. I double-checked the Air Canada website (http://www.aircanada.com/en/travelinfo/airport/baggage/security.html#0) and it looks like the 100ml is in carry-on luggage and they have a 500ml individual limit/2L total limit for checked luggage. Apparently you also can't pack alcohol of more than 140 proof either!

we, too, have been to CC like 6 or 7 times, mostly august-february, and have never needed, wished we had or otherwise lacked for insect repellent or jellyfish repellent. in my experience, if i saw enough jellyfish that i felt i needed to repeal them, i wouldn't swim? they sell "off" type products on board (we bought some when we went to mexico and i thought we might need some but we didn't use it).

interesting about the luggage, i ould have assumed customs through the canadian border would be the same for checked luggage? i know i had things larger than 3.4cc in my luggage when we took the train in an out of vancouver. that would be very difficult!

Yeah, just to clarify, the 500ml is per ITEM with the 2L limit per person in checked. I cannot imagine packing for anything longer than a 3-night cruise in only carry-on. Heck, even for marathon weekend last weekend I checked a bag.

Oh... While I think about it: I always travel with a carry-on only. I always thought the liquid permitted for carry-on and checked luggage were the same. I did not see there was a different link for the registered luggage.

I want the insect repellent and jellyfish repellent for the ports. Like Castaway Cay. Do you need to wear it on the boat if you don't get out in Nassau?

I'm talking insect repellent. For dengue and diseases spread by mosquito bites.

I can do 5 nights with just a carry-on. I'm the suitcase packing master!
