Infraction cost me 30 points

I got an infraction message from a moderator for referring to a locked thread in my post. First I did not know that it was wrong to talk about a locked thread and I do not understand these points that I was given. What does being given 30 points mean, I am scared I read lots of posts, but have kept my replies down for fear of these points...
To all others, be very carefull with your messages, the moderators do NOT like it and said they will not tolerate it.

You can keep track of you points through your UserCP. It will show it at the bottom of the screen with the expiration date. If you get another 10 points, then you'll lose your sig and PMing privileges. I am completely pointless for the first time in ages, but no telling how long that will last.

Yes, but apparently the system is set up to only display your last 5 infractions because a whole bunch of mine have dropped off.

Yeah, but is a mod really going to respond to every complaint by handing out points?? I would think a mod is free to disregard crap like that. If that was the case and mods responded to every single gripe with points, then it seems that's all they'd spend their time doing and we'd all have them up the whazoo.

Yeah, I would say it is going a little overboard. To be honest, I've gotten points twice, and that was how I found out I crossed the line. I never completely read the posting guidelines, my bad.
