First and only rule is NO CAMERA OR PICTURE BASHING ALLOWED!

Lurking and searching for information on this board, I see there are a lot of us who use simple, perhaps less popular cameras and/or may not be particularly highly skilled in photography like some of the other posters here are. But it doesn't mean that we aren't interested in the subject matter, or that we can't take nice pictures or enjoy discussing photography at our level as well. It's OK sometimes for people to just be happy with what they have, even if it's not a top of the line or well received camera, or if their skills are simply at the novice to amateur level!

So let's hear your stories. Do you like the camera you have? What is it? Let's see some pictures (please don't be afraid to post)!

I'll start. I've been a (really) amateur photographer for many years now, although I take thousands of pictures. I got a digital camera about 4 years ago, an HP which I've been very happy with, I like the point and shoot.

I decided to get a 4X6 photo printer the other day, and found a nice deal on an HP bundle which included a new 5.2 MP camera as well as the printer, so I bought it. I spent most of last evening reading through the manuals, and hope to take some pictures with it this weekend. So far, I love it!

Hi there fellow GAGWTA sister! I have serious camera-envy, but a fancy digital SLR is not in the budget in the near future. Anyway, I'm really happy with my Canon A70. Here are a couple of my favorite pix:

These are your basic point-and-shoot cameras, but they take great pictures!

i love my camera ( rebel xt,canon) my skills not so much I had a canon film slr, have loved photography for yrs ( high school so decades ago) but not the tech know how...have memory problems due to a chronic illness so what i learn goes through the seive of a brain and doesn't stick plus tremors ...so will i ever be a great photographer ? nope but i still like it!

maybe off track but i think what ever works for you works for you, so what if you don't have a pro camera? and i think most people on this board feel the same way, only a few are camera snobs imo and most who are knowledgeable are great at sharing( hope not to forget anyone , sorry if i do,but jrooo4, handicap, oblio, bob q, the exiled Kelly G,the Mickeys/mike just to mention a few i think have given me great info and enormously helpful advice)

Hey Amy, thanks for joining me! I hope someday I can increase my skills, too, maybe take a class and invest in a nicer camera. I like your pictures!

Jan, I agree. I've only been around a few days but I've already "met" some really nice, knowledgeable, helpful people. It seems there may be some, though, including myself, who may be a little intimidated about their cameras or skills. I'd hoped they'd feel comfortable posting here.

It always bothered me when a new poster in this forum would start a thread asking for help and mentioning the camera they had only to have a reply from somebody(wont mention names) telling them how bad their camera is. And the OP never really asked for opinions on the camera. Just imagine the horror of asking for help but instead you get replies and replies pointing out how bad your camera is...

I think everybody should be welcome here regardless of the camera they use or skill level they "currently" have.

I apoligize if some have been made to feel less than that.

I take pictures for fun and for my family. And I love my Kodak! I have a Canon too and they both get along very well.

Good thread! It gets way too serious and way too brand conscious around here sometimes.

Elizke, beautiful pictures with your Kodak. I was blown away with some of the photos on the low light thread taken by 2angelsinheaven with her Kodak, as well as many of the other photos on that thread.

I love my D50 and I love my older KODAK DX4900. Sure the Kodak is not the greatest, but the tool, or maybe the fool behind it, seems to be ok with taking pictures
I bought my D50 after my Disney Trip in April, cause I had "outgrown" the Kodak. Don't get me wrong, it is a great camera and has taken thousands of shots over the last 4 years, it was just time for me to move on.
Not going to post pictures, but I will post my blog address. If you look at the April Archive they are all with the Kodak, and some of the May photos.
I think this a great thread, and was one of the reasons I joined up here. There are a lot of great photographers on this site, and for the most part people have questions they get great answers.

And actually, as a happy Kodak owner I wouldn't even post here anymore until recently. It has gotten better. Anyway, it's nice to share and enjoy some pics here on your thread. I'm just happy to have cameras of any kind and love to see nice pictures. I've been a satisfied point and shooter since I had my first Instamatic at 13.

I finally broke down and chose a camera, after reading on here last night why I should return the Kodak z650 I had just bought yesterday (after 7 HOURS of browsing 6 stores!). So I stayed up researching more till 2:30am, then got up at 6am to research some MORE. Wrote a shortlist of choices, returned the Kodak, hit a few more stores and found the Canon s2 IS for the same price I had bought the Kodak z650 for. Now, if only I could figure out how to USE it!!


Gotta get going on homework, this has taken WAAAAY too much time. This had BETTER be a great camera, because I, *gasp*, have OPENED THE BOX!! I'm keepin' it!

I don't sell my pictures, nor do I blow them up into posters. So I think this will exceed my humble expectations. I know the pix shown in the previous posts are quite lovely, and I'll be happy when mine turn out like that!

I now have a Canon 20D since the begining of the year and have absolutely loved it. Prior to that I had my Canon S20 for about 5+ years and enjoyed it as well (it was my first digital to replace my Pentax ME Super film camera), my DD13 has since confiscated it. DW and DD11 both have Kodaks and enjoy the simplicty of the camera doc as well as the ability to make little video clips.

No mater what camera a person is not photography, how they use it is.

Hey, I won't dis a point and shoot! Our Kodak DC4800 worked great for us for 5 years and as we speak that baby is on a cruise in Alaska and got to go on a Western cruise a couple of months ago! That camera is doing better than I am!

I sunk a chunk of change on that camera and it is still serving me very well. I love all the pictures we took with it and I won't list my old best friend on Ebay. I love to lend it to friends and it is so easy to take on a trip, I will also use it at WDW in 3 weeks. I take the really big and heavy camera when my husband goes with me (to help with it!)

So to all point and shoot camera owners out there, go get 'em!

And your pictures are great!

I just wanted to second Anewman's post. I got myself in trouble a few weeks ago expressing the above opinion.

I hope things will settle down here and we can all share our love of photographs no matter what camera we use.

And for the record, I think I got better pictures with my p&s Sony than my S2IS!

I love my Nikon D50. I've had it since January of this year and have taken close to 3000 pics with it thus far (I helps having gone to Disney and also have 3 children ages 4 and under, one of whom just learned to walk and the 3rd was just born a little more than 2 weeks ago). This camera has "Gotten me back into Photography". Over the years I've owned a Kodak 126, a Kodak Disk, some sort of a canon slr (it wasn't a 'regular' SLR, but the lens could come off and what you saw in the viewfinded is what the lens saw), a Nikon N6006, a Nikon N70 (still have) and a Canon digital S30 P&S. Way back in high school I took photography classes and thats is what got me to the Nikon 6006. After high school I got a way from the "photography" side and really only did P&S with an SLR, occassionaly using shutter priority, but mostly P or AUTO. Then we went digital and that was basically point, focus and shoot. It wasn't till AFTER I came here, then got my D50 that I really realized how much a digital P&S camera really can do (SOOO much more than any film P&S could ever think of doing). Also since coming to this board, I've really gotten back into "photography". Everything I learn in high school then got away from and forgot I'm now back into. This board has been the #1 help along with reading a few books (Understanding Exposure to name the most influential). My picture taking skills and my understanding of photography have grown a lot over the past year.

Anyway here are a few pics taken with my Canon S30:

I got a lot of good use out of that camera over 4 1/2 years. But I was ready to move on, so I did. I think I could have taken a lot better pictures with that camera if I really knew how to use it. For example last x-mas I was taking pictures of the outdoor decorations of the house. I used a tripod and the icon that gave me the slowest shutter. Had I been more knowledgable or had a better understanding, I would have known that the M, Tv, and Av would have given me more control and I could have set my own shutter, etc. and gotten the results I was looking for in my head.

So long as you have a camera that your comfortable with and really know how to use its features you will be able to take excellent pictures. The right equipment helps, but if you don't know how to use it then your no where.

boB, I love your crab picture. Was that taken in SF? I see it has a hazy background but clear subject. I have that feature on my new camera (macro is it?), I'll have to try it out.

Thanks for posting everyone, I'm enjoying your photos and stories. I'm realizing in reading that I have a lot to learn about even simple terms like ISO and such. I think I have a photography book around here somewhere, I'll have to dig it out.

I love the fact that so many have been inspired by this board! I definitely see how that can happen.

Yep, the photo was taken at Fisherman's Wharf in SF. The crabs were about at the close focusing limit for the camera (but not in macro), so the background is a little blurred (makes for good subject separation).

Here's another one taken with the little Kodak, at a restaurant on the ICW near St. Augustine.
