Pea-n-me, I love your low light photos, especially the one at MGM! It's beautiful!!!

Thank you so much! I'm glad people liked that photo, it's one of my favorites, too.

So yesterday I searched through my books and found an old photography book I apparently had once read since the pages were turned down. Hmmm, it's all coming back to me... Reading these boards I was unfamiliar with some of the terms so I want to try and re-learn the basics (again  ) so I can understand everyone's wonderful tips! This will be a work in progress over the next few weeks but I'm so happy this board has inspired me! Thank you all!

These pictures came out awesome! :thumbsup2 Did you use a tripod? I'm still debating on what setting to use to take firework shots in Disney next month. Thanks!

Thanks Gabby. I was pleasantly surprised myself. I was armed with recommended fireworks settings and tried those, but also tried the fireworks preset. The preset worked way better. I usually don't have much luck with presets, but the fireworks one really works well for this cam.

As for a tripod, no I didn't use one. I used my self-patented "elbowpod". I slump down in my chair, prop my elbows on the lawn chair arms, and pretty much smash the camera into my face so it does not move. (I always use the viewfinder. ) I also start snapping as the firework is rising, and try to time it so I press the shutter just before before it actually explodes.

Wonderful pictures on this thread!!!!! I am rarely impressed by any camera as much as by what the photogrpaher has captured. Let's see some more!

Here's a few more from the Kodak 7590...one of my favorite subjects - my flowers

I love photography for the way it lets me slow down, appreciate, and in a way hang on to all the beautiful things in the world. I do not love a camera company.

Let's see some more from your supposedly lower class cameras!

Wow!!! I love the perspective and colors here.

Thanks! I rarely ever "stop" to take a picture, I'm usually just walking by and snap one. But we got lucky and got a good spot for Hallowishes, so I took advantage of it. I have a tripod, but it's never actually made it into the parks. Considering the fact that I have a real shaky hand, I really should use a tripod, but instead I just put the camera on burst mode and let it go. I may take a couple of hundred pics and only get 20 good ones, but the good ones turn out good enough.

Here's a couple of regular wishes ones:

I am really glad I found this thread. I love taking pictures and I am trying to learn more about photography; however, there have been times here that I felt my camera was worthless.

I have a Canon A310 and a Kodak z740 (I also have another smaller Kodak and a 35mm). I was so excited when I got my Kodak; I had researched for the longest time and this was my first choice.

Then I came here and Kodaks were bashed. I thought about getting a Canon S2 IS, but then decided against it. I have seen wonderful pictures here taken by the same camera I have, so I wasn't sure why Kodak was getting such a bad rep.

Anyway, here are some photos (the pictures in my signature were also taken with the Canon):

I think the one doing the Kodak bashing had an agenda against them, but that has been taken care of.

All of the camera manufacturers have good cameras. They make their products based on what they think the consumers want, and the consumers pick the ones they think is the best for them. The good products stick around and the bad ones go by the way side.

You will never see the perfect camera, just the one that best satisfies you.

I think the best way to get what you want is listen to opinions, decide what you want in a camera, go to a store (camera store if there is one near you) look at them, put them in your hands, pick the one you like and then shop it for price.

The camera I like may not be the one you like, but that is alright.

Your needs may not be my needs.

The Z740 is a great camera. Love the last photo. (Is it a coneflower or something like that?) Very pretty.

DisneyGirl, sounds like you fit right in! Your pictures are beautiful!

Thank you.

The flower is a purple echinacea (coneflower).

I have the Canon S2IS, and just love it. My only frustrations are indoor action shots of my ds 2.5yo - I really have to work for those!! :rotfl: If I crank up the iso and am sure to use the flash we have great luck, but I miss my old film slr for that one reason! I'm sure a digi slr would be great, but I'm just not ready to jump off that bridge yet!! Here's a few I've taken with my S2 - I need to work on some of my settings a bit - to really learn which ones work best for which conditions. Anyway - here's a couple - I do apologize they are all flowers (they hold still better than my kids !!) By the way - this is a great thread and an awesome board!!!

Marge, I love your flower shots! :thumbsup2

Canon S2IS, huh? I've been dropping big hints to Santa for the S3IS (according to the guy at Best Buy, they've stopped making the S2). But since I just got a new car over the weekend (my first new car in 12 years!) and DS16 just recently got his license and our car insurance is sky high, I may have to be satisfied with my trusty old Canon A70. Oh well....I really needed a new car, but I WANT a new camera! Guess I have to live what I preach to the kids about the difference between needs and wants. Dang it's hard being a parent and setting a good example! :teeth:

Thank you , thank you, thank you  !!! Getting praise on this board is such an awesome feeling!! :cloud9:

All are welcome in the Procastinators Club - the only requirement is that you must have something waiting for you to do!!!- I too need to iron clothes for myself and my daughter for tomorrow!!!LOL I also need to put away the vacume that's been sitting in my foyer all day - nice way to greet the guest - they think you've been slaving away instead of surfing the Dis!!! :rotfl:

I'm really in love with the "super macro" setting on my camera right now. It lets you get right on top of your subject and just is so fun!!! I really need to learn to use the rest of the settings. It would help to know when Av or Tv are most optimal vs. the Program mode which I opt for most of the time! I was out playing this afternoon and snapped this one on my fading annuals -

I'll have to try again later, photobucket seems to be having some server problems at the moment. :confused3

Kodak here too. DX6490 that's about 5 years old. All of the pics I have been posting lately have been from that camera. They may not be 'poster worthy' But I think they are pretty darn good

OK - problem was me not Photobucket!!LOL Guess I need to learn how to properly save a picture!

Here's a shot I took in our backyard. All of our annuals are starting to fade, time to rip them out and put the mums in for fall!! These little guys are still hanging in there, kinda hate to pull them out!

Good thread! :thumbsup2 I've long been a proponent that "the eye" is often just as important (if not more so) than the camera itself....

I use an old Canon A60.... it's not the most luxurious camera out there, but it has served me well over the past couple of years and I still haven't even begun to play with all of its features. I'm not a pro or even a "hobbyist," really. I just like taking pictures. :)

Here are some that I already happen to have uploaded that I kind of like.

CheshireVal,
I love your pictures!! The one of the "snowballs"? at Epcot is really cool!! Makes me want to go in the winter!!! :thumbsup2

Another Koday z740 user here. I'm slowly inching my way up the photography scale as I grow more confident. However, I'm still not able to take good pics of the fireworks. It always looks blurry. If anyone has this camera and has taken fireworks pics they're proud of, I would greatly appreciate any helpful tips.

TIA.

Great photos everyone. Elizke, absolutely gorgeous picture of columbine.
