Infants on rides?

I'm sure this is a stupid question but... ...

I've seen posts where people talk about taking a baby on rides and into shows etc.

How do I know (apart from the height restriction ones) when it is ok to put baby on my knee for and when it is not? She will be 7 months.

The CM's at the ride entrance will tell you when you board the ride.
for boat rides like ITaSW, they can sit in your lap. For rides like Dumbo that go up in the air, the child must 'sit' on the seat, usually on the interior. On AStro Orbiter, the ride is bench that you straddle with yoru legs, so that one you hold the child in your lap. Itis the fastest of all the rides like that , but also has the best view. Maybe a little intense for a seven month old, esp on a cooler night. I think the only other one I'd probably skip is the teacups. I'm pretty sure the only restriction onthe safari ride is that the child can't be on your shoulders or anything like that. You wouldn't want to accidentally drop her in the crocodile pit...

Most rides though the child can sit in your lap.

One other thing, during many of the 3-D type shows there are tiny squirts of water, or bubbles, or smells (also on the Figment ride, along with short a blast of air at the end) I don't think you have to worry about getting soap in your eyes or anything, but if you can figure out where the water jet is located before the show starts, you maybe can shield the child by covering the spot where the water jet is located. I'm making it sound worse than it is....but often if you look carefully at the row of seats i front of you you can figure out where the water squirts from. (You can also figure that the water squirts are aimed forthe middle of each seat, so holding the child to the side is another idea. You can also kind of tell whne you are about to get squirted...like if you see a bottle about to be uncorked....or someone splashing into water -that sort of thing. HISTA is a bit loud, the Bug's life one has spiders, but an infant won't care. Watching the 3-d mocies without the glasses is perfectly fine. But mostly, I think a seven month old will want to fall asleep (nurse?) during these shows.

Just to say thanks - makes thing a bit clearer.

DD will either sleep or want to talk / babble during the shows for sure lol!

We'll just have to sit at the back / sides to make a quick and easy exit if she decides that she wants to voice her opinion!

yes I am. But now a little stressed about getting a stroller and hauling it on the plane and on the buses.

All of the rides have signs in the front stating who should not ride. There are always CM's at the front so feel free to walk up and ask before getting on line. Basically anything without a hight restriction. I took my kids at 8 months and the other at 9 months and they did really great. I was amazed at how much I could do with them. What works great is putting the baby in a carrier like a Baby Bjorn. It was great for waiting on lines and I was able to keep them in it for most of the attractions. Do a search over on the families board and you will find a ton of threads with lists of all the rides you can bring an infant on.

About your stroller, you will love having it especially at the airport! Just gate check it and it will be waiting for you when you land. Then DME(if your staying onsite)will put it under the bus in the storage compartment for you. You won't even have to fold it up! When going to the parks the stroller can be wheeled aboard the boats and monorail. When on the bus what worked best for us was to but the baby in the carrier and fold up the stroller while we waited for the bus. We had no problems at all. I'm sure your baby will be much happier in her comfy familiar stroller rather than the plastic ones at the park. Also, it's great to have at the resort too!

Sorry I'm rambling and giving more info than you asked for!!LOL:flower3:

FYI, my kids would fall asleep every time we went on Haunted Mansion, the railroad, and IASW. They even slept through Fantasmic!

The PPs have all given you good advice, but always remember that you know you baby best! For example, if your baby doesn't like loud noises, be prepared to avoid loud rides or have a plan to muffle loud sounds.

We took my nephew at six months - he loved Cinderella's Carousel, It's A Small World, Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin, Spaceship Earth, and Tomorrowland Transit Authority - no problems on any of those. He was loving Journey Into the Imagination with Figment (even the air blas) but freaked out right at the end when Figment popped up unexpectedly on a screen. He was also loving the Three Cabelaros ride in the Mexico pavillion until our boat got bumped from behind at the end of the ride. He sat on someone's lap for every one of these rides - on the Carousel, which was his first ride ever (Disney or otherwise), he and his parents sat in one of the chariots that remain stationary.

We didn't take him on Haunted Mansion, but other family members took their six-month old on it a few months ago with disastrous results. Being Disney newbies, they asked a CM at the entrance if it was an OK ride for a baby - the CM said sure (which, in theory it is since the car motion is pretty smooth and there are no height restrictions). They got on and got underway fine but then the baby got scared or something and that was it. He screamed his head off for the rest of the ride (unconsolable). It was their first (why we're not sure) and only ride in their one day at MK.

Bottom line, start out with something really tame (like the Cinderella's Carousel) and see how that goes and then work up from there.
