Incredibly Disturbing, Sick Behavior.

I know for a fact that people do freeze up in emergency situations. By personality and professional training, I am just the opposite. What comes naturally to me in an emergency is to spring into action and bark orders. It is true that if you call on someone specifically and order them to do something, they usually will. "You in the blue shirt, call 911, NOW!" works. It has worked in the 2 private situations (not at work) where I gave assistance to an emergency victim. People panic and they don't know what to do. Anyone who seems to be in charge and telling them what to do, they will listen. The lesson in all of this is, don't wait to see what the other guy is doing. Be the first responder. If someone is crazy enough to complain that you tried to help, as in the case of the bridge jumper who was rescued, or say you were duped by an internet scammer, then that is their problem. At least you know you have done your duty as a fellow human being and tried to help out. Its up to the authorities to take action if you call about a situation, so don't worry if you don't know "for sure". Call and let them investigate. You could save a life!
