INCREDIBLE MED Cruise prices!!!

We booked just a few weeks ago to take advantage of this deal. We bought the Guar. Cat 12 and ended up with a category 11 for a family of 4. Airfare ended up costing more than the cruise. And expediting passports for my two kids through a service was another expense. So the trip didn't end up as cheap as I thought it would be, but no regrets. I'm so excited to cruise the Mediterranean!

I was able to book it after all. The Disney folks just needed a little more hand-holding through their website before they could find the rate. We've booked it, and we saved $4,600 for the 4 of us. :yay: That makes this trip a lot more doable. Thanks for the heads-up!!

That's great news!
I guess they are more in line with the rest of the cruise lines on rates.
I hope they sail that way sometime again.

Ok...We did it!! We booked the 11 night, July 23 (or 28th?) Barcelona to Barcelona. YEA!!!!

For those of you who have been able to make the change to the Cat 12 Gty, how many passengers were there in your stateroom? There are 4 of us currently booked in a Cat 9, and this sounds like a deal we can't pass up. We called our travel agent, but he was unsuccessful either doing it on his own reservation system or going through Disney.

After 4 calls to my TA, and them making 3 calls to DCL - we were finally switched to GTY Cat 12. 2 different TA's were told by DCL that moving from our Cat 9 to Cat 12 GTY would save us "only" $1200. After repeatedly checking the DCL site and seeing that we would actually save $5069.00!!!:scared1: I kept calling our TA, who finally was able to convince the CM to look into this further. She was told they would switch, but the request would have to be approved by inventory control first, and DCL would call her in a few days to confirm. That was at 7pm tonight. I just checked and we are now a Cat 12 GTY! I am gambling that we will be bumped up to a 10 or better to get the split bath. With the 4 of us in the room DH, DS18 & DS12 + me, it will be beneficial when we all have to get ready and out the door. (Still will keep my fingers crossed for a Cat 9 though!!) The cruise is now costing us less that what we just saved. I was told they will credit my cc.:dance3: :dance3: :dance3: Good luck everyone!

THANKS TO THE OP FOR THE HEADS UP WITH THIS THREAD!

Take care,
Sherri

Sherri,

Congratulations on being able to get the lower rate (although I'm not sure why it's so hard). That much money is too hard to pass up.

Just wondering whether the rest of your cruise plans remained intact after the change. When I went into our reservation to check to make sure our cabin had changed, I noticed that we no longer had any excursions booked. Luckily, we only had reserved a few, and they were all still available, but I can imagine that it could be a big problem if you had made a reservation for one of the more popular excursions. Just wondering if it was a glitch with my reservation or if that's what happens when you switch cat's.

For those looking for cheap airfare - try this site - www.flycheapabroad.com . I booked legal one way fares to Paris - for 3 of us - for $ 400. less than what Delta wanted for just one seat :thumbsup2

On the "low fares" - they don't tell you the name of the airline - but gee - go to JFK website - check outbound flights to where you want to go - and it will list what airlines have flights out that time. Pretty easy to figure out the flight I was booking "blind" was an Air France (code share with Delta) :goodvibes This should work for any airport.

I have a friend that cruises with a DH and two teenage sons in Cat 11 and 12 all the time. For evening preperations/grooming, mom just gets the room to herself first! She's done with shower/hair stuff before they hit the room. AND don't forget the showers in the locker room at the gym. You and DH can shower there if you like....and the showers are MUCH nicer ::yes::

Would changing category like this count as a cancellation then a rebooking? We booked onboard last time for the Westbound repo and got bith stateroom credit and prepaid gratuities whcih we obviously don't want to lse if possible. (Though I guess the savings might outweigh these anyway?)

Hi, we booked originally June of '06 and just changed to a Cat 12 to save money. It didn't count as a rebooking and there were no fees. Also, we didn't lose any excursions. Now if we could just get Palo we'd be all set!! Our TA didn't have any problems except she had to wait for a supervisor to approve the change. That only took a few minutes.

I would LOVE to take advantage of this fare, but the airfares are outrageous! It would cost us $2,600 in airfare to Europe, and the cruise is only $3,300!:confused3

Dear K - Don't know what happended with your ressie - that's a shame, glad you were able to re-book the excursions. I just checked and all of ours are still there (thank goodness!)

ibouncetoo - thanks for the info on the cat 11 room, and the good idea on the showers in the gym! I am sure all will be fine - after all - how much are you actually in the room anyway!

KEH - no we still have our same reservation # - I do not believe we would have if it was consider a cancellation and re-booking.

TO ALL THAT HAVE SWITCHED TO A CAT 12 - please come back to this thread and post what CAT you actually end up with - I'm curious as to how this will work!

Thanks again to everyone - and good luck to all!

This is making me nuts! We booked with points for a cat 11. We plan on getting to the port early to see if we can pay for an upgrade. We're traveling with a service dog so it would be really nice to have a balcony for it's pottie pool. I asked DVC the other day what it would cost right not to just pay for the upgrade so we didn't have to be at the ship so early and they wanted 3 grand for it. We're doing the repo home. I keep hoping some magic will happen but I guess I'm just going to have to end up paying for it.

GRATZ on the upgrade, it's nice to hear they do do it some times.

They wont put you in cat 11??? will they?
It would be my thought, that they would upgrade you to a Verandah Room.
I have seen the Pool type structure they use for the service litter box.

Where would they put it in cat 11 ????

Just wondering?????

Great site DisneyElf! We booked our flights in Nov 06 for our 070707 cruise and are paying $1048 pp for a non-stop on Cont. out of Newark. If we needed to book air now - we could get airfare of less than $1000 pp - out of JFK with 1 stop in London (leaving on July 4th - returning on July 18th) Will keep this web site in my favorites for the future - although DH hates to fly and insists on non-stops!! - ( by the way - our current flight would now cost over $1400 if we were to book it today)

We are doing the 6/16 because of the discount! booked cat 12 and got assigned a cat 9!

Dear Bartty - how soon after you booked the cat 12 did you find out you got a cat 9? Did they advise your cabin #? Just wondering how this works.

Thanks,
Sherri

Sherri,
It was about 2 days after booking. Was checking our reservation details and saw that we had a room #. Looked on the ship layout and it was a category 9. On the reservation it still says type of room: cat 12. So just look closely.
Good luck!!

If you have 'paid' for a balcony they put the pool out there, we did it on our last cruise and out dog loved it! She would sit in the grass and watch the water. Since we only had enough points for a cat 11 that's what we booked and they will put the pool on another deck. Could be the seekret deck on 7 or somewhere on deck 4. Since the dog is trained to go at specific times we'll just take her there. But it would have been so much easier with a balcony. DH gets up with her early anyway but ya know!

We're going to try to get the port early and see if we can do a paid upgrade, we're keeping our fingers crossed that since it's sailing time it might be cheaper. If not, oh well, live and learn. I'm paying cash for these things from now on, no more points.

Wow!

We had originally been pooh-poohing these sailings for #1) the coordinating hassels of our group who wanted to do this... and #2) the cost and #3) the less than ideal port schedule - as we had a particular port schedule we wanted. And finally, #4) we were about to do a minor home improvement "thing" by adding a solar power array to the house - but last month the PUC and legislature enacted price changes that essentially killed the potential viability of new installs and now Solar power installs are being cited as OFF 78% in California.... So....

... on account of a couple of changes in our "situation" .... I do believe we might reconsider this travel deal. Even if imperfect for sailing as a group with others who expressed interest in other lines and schedules... WE might just go now!

Gotta get the kids to school then I'll burn some time double checking pricing and air fares + ground arrangements. Maybe - just maybe by the end of today or tomorrow I'll start posting on a DIS Med cruise meet thread!?!?!?!?

I don't think it is a glitch. That is what happened to everyone who switched to a lower priced 12 for the same reason a month before we went on the 12/9/06 Magic. They all had to call & have their Palo & excursion resies relinked to their new resie. It is a shame that DCL doesn't fix this so it doesn't continue to happen.
