INCREDIBLE MED Cruise prices!!!

danfromca, I love deck 2. I actually requested our upcoming trip. No waiting for elevators when you come & go to port or leaving the ship.

I guess every deck is good.

Please fill us in when you get your room assignments. I bet Cat 10 or 9.

Good luck

Patricia

After some family discussion, we decided to try to downgrade to Cat 12s. We originally booked two Cat 10 GTYs and have not yet been asigned staterooms. I called DCL and confirmed that rooms where not yet assigned and asked them what I needed to do to change categories. I was informed to contact my travel agent.

Yesterday afternoon, I emailed Kelsie at DU our wish to downgrade our staterooms to Cat 12s.

I received a reply email from Kelsie around 7:30ish this morning. She said that she will contact DCL to check into downgrading. I received another email from her later in this afternoon (4ish) saying she contacted DCL and put in our request. She said that there was a backlog of these requests and were being handled by a special department to ensure all excursions get carried over.

Checked my reservations when I got home this evening at 7:30 and (I never thought I'd be happy to ever say this) we've been DOWNGRADED! This turns out to be over $7600 savings for us! :yay: Thank you Kelsie!

We decided for that much of a savings, we will be very satisfied with a Cat 12. Since we have 2 staterooms for the 5 of us, we are not really giving up much going from Cat 10 to 12. We can live without the split bathrooms, and being on Deck 2 (or 1) is actually an ideal location since Deck 1 is where all dis/embarkation is going to take place throughout the cruise. While everone is waiting for elevators, I'll be having a little :drinking1 while getting ready for dinner. Don't get me wrong, if :tink: wants to sprikle a little pixiedust: our way, I'm not going to shoo her away! :thumbsup2

:disrocks:

I started this thread a few days ago and Disney has "lost" a ton of money. I hope they don't find out who I am. They may give us a storage closet instead of a room:lmao: !

I'm wondering about the people who already have upgrades when did you first notice the room change?

We originally booked in March or April of '06, cat. 9. Then last Monday downgraded to Cat. 11 for a $3000. savings. We still show a Cat. 12 GTY. Which is fine because the Cat. 12 rooms are in the same area as the original room we booked. For $3000. I don't mind being across the hall without a window.

We are already trying to decide which cruise we are going on next:banana: !

I think it's odd too. And while I agree that allowing people to downgrade to save $$ is generating good will now, I expect that many of the people who are downgrading to a cat. 12 gty are expecting or at least hoping for an upgrade. When that doesn't happen (someone will be in those cat. 12 cabins), I hope there is not a lot of complaining here . . .

My theory on why they are offering dicounts on GTy Cat 12s is

1. Fill the ship - an empty room does not take/pay for excursions or charge drinks/souvenies on board.

2. This close to sailing - people will have to pay higher airfares from the USA. Offering a discounted rate gives folks a reason to justify paying high airfare.
(our air cost $1000 each rt - same flights today cost close to $1500 pp)

3. There are ONLY 13 Cat 12 rooms on the ship ( at least that is all that I could find/count.) From what I have read numerous times on these boards - cat 12's only sleep 3 - feel free to correct me if I am wrong. So any parties of 4 should end up in at least a Cat 11 (again - just from what I've read)

4. I think it is a "bait and switch" tactic - in the traveler's favor - lure us in with the low price, and bump us up to fill the empty rooms.

Again, based on their being only 13 Cat 12's - chances are pretty good most of us are moving to at least an 11. Yes, I am hoping (not expecting) to get back to my Cat 9 - but there is no window in the world that is worth $5000.00!!! I'll be more than happy with whatever room we get - hey - I'll be on a Disney Cruise !!

Good luck everyone - PLEASE come back and post what Cat / Room number you end up with when you know. Our ressie still say GTY inside - I have to stop checking it evey hour!!

Take care,
Sherri

DD had been in a Cat 11 on deck 6 aft, and knew that downgrading meant run of the ship, so will not be disappointed in any cabin. $1700 is a lot of money. In fact, she was in an 11 only because a 12 was not available when she booked. so no big deal.

I think the amount of savings that people are getting is so significant that no one can complain. For DD - a first class vacation for $125 a day in a single occupancy cabin is nothing short of amazing.

My theory on why they are offering dicounts on GTy Cat 12s is

1. Fill the ship - an empty room does not take/pay for excursions or charge drinks/souvenies on board.

And one more thing - their staff depends on tips, and cat 12 tips the same as cat 1. So as long as they cover the cost of food, they are better off filling the ship with people who will keep the staff working and paid.

Also - they need to offer the savings months in advance for some of the sailings because some people need to get passports.

This looks like an "EasyCruise" ad! or perhaps "truth in advertising" fpr that line:lmao:

Has anyone who switched down to a Cat 12 gotten their cabin assignment yet?

If so - please post what cat you ended up with, and what the date of your cruise is.

Just wondering if or when we will find out. Since we are a family of 4, I believe we will at least move to a cat 11. ( 070707 cruise )

I keep checking the DCL website and it seems that the low price on the Cat 12s is holding and still available, and Cat 11, 10, 9, 8 & 5 are still there, but not at discounted prices. The cabin numbers that show available seem to remain the same each time I check. It shows that our original cat 9 cabin # 2612 is out there for the taking!

Oh well - I'll take whatever we get- but would love to know what cabin # we will end up with.

Thanks,
Sherri

We are on the 7/28 Med and have not received our room yet. We did recieve our credit. Did anyone else get 5 different amounts that added up to the total refund. I was ondering what the reason for that was?

With our credit we booked a 7 night Eastern Med cruise for 4 on the Freedom of the Seas for next February vacation.

This cracks me up!!!! I have to show the 2008 EB group this because so many of them have been GTY since they booked 1/31. :lmao:

I had been booked on the Aug. 8 Med cruise since the day they went on sale, in a cat. 9, and today switched to BOTH the July 29 11 day and the 14 night transatlantic repo (both cat. 12 GTY) for the same price I had already paid for the one cruise! I don't show a room assignment on the July 28, but the Aug. 18 already shows me in a cat. 10 room.

Congrat's are in order :cool1:

OK...

... all you crazy folks have got ME looking again! I'm now considering the 18-28th 10 day sailing ... and searching for cabins the cat 12 quad with 2 adults + children ages 3 and 6 comes to $5660.84 + Orbitz has LAX to BCN on the 14th through the 28th at $1020 on Air India (arrgh!) up to $2,190 pp on our preferred carrier United ... all the way up to $5076 on Virgin, Air NZ or Air New Zeland. Well... that's a deal breaker for us I think... $8800 for air alone on United is not good enough.

I'll have to play around with the travel times and dates to come up with an attractive combination. I guess we could consider air India at $4,080 plus the $5660 DCL fare. This would make the core components of the trip tolerable... details - details - details .....

OK... using the Orbitz search engine - shifting the outbound +/- 3 days or the return zero to plus 3 days saves nothing!

sigh...

Crash -- wouldn't you rather regret what you've done -- even if I think you wouldn't -- than what you didn't do? You will kick yourself if you don't do this!

Try aer lingus, by the way -- they don't show up on search engines but have terrific prices, at least from here.

I appreciate your encouragement...

... but this is the 2nd time I have looked at this seriously. We had a family gathering under developement... and we had an "agenda" which included waiting for most of the nephews and nieces to get another year of age behind them + we have lots of other conditions for the group to sail. Including an embarkation or return to Rome. AND...most of us agreed we wanted to burn some FF miles - which in my case makes some sense. MY spouse and I have about 750,000 miles between us with Uniteds' Star Alliance system ... and I want to use up some of em. In fact, we've used a lot of miles in the past few years - and we still have a relatively large number. AND... we just don't want to waste them either on the unrestricted standard awards either.

So we'll just wait a bit - but out of curiosity I will check Aer Lingus... Now if only Lufthansa had good fares... as they credit to the Star Aliiance system...

Thanks again! :thumbsup2

Just reading this thread makes me want to go! I sooo wish I could take advantage of this deal. But, alas, we can't even afford the cheap rates this year...just had unexpected baby at the same time we built new house and still trying to get it fully furnished...sigh

OK - Here you go::::cool1: I'm reporting back with our room assignment:

If you didn’t go back and read the beginning of this thread – where I posted that we were originally booked in a Cat 9 on deck 2 for our 070707 Med Cruise, - We decided to roll the dice, and switched to a GTY Cat 12 – WE SAVED @ $5400.00,   ( Thanks again OP) and I just checked DCL’s website, and it says…….:rolleyes1

Ship Accommodation: Stateroom #2504 :cheer2:
Catagory 12: Standard Inside Stateroom

2504 is a Category 9 – Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom!!! Woo Hoo! How lucky is that!pixiedust:

My only concern is that it is very very forward on the ship. :sail: We have always stayed mid-ship in the past. Anyone have any experience with a room in the front of the ship in the past? Is there more motion???

Also – can anyone confirm that all Oceanview rooms on Deck 2 have the large porthole window?

Either way – I am MORE than HAPPY that the dice rolled in our favor and we got bumped up to a Cat 9!

Wishing GOOD LUCK:tinker: to anyone else who decided to “downgrade” and take advantage of the unbelievable savings!

Happy cruising!

Sher
