DH is getting his bachelor's online through Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University-Worldwide (they do have campuses all over, but his is strictly online). I know traditionally, you cannot deduct computer, internet, etc... expenses on your taxes. However, as an online student, he HAS to have the internet.... anyone know if these expenses are deductable? TIA!

Only if textbooks are deductible. 'Cause, essentially, your husband's computer and internet connection are his books.

there is a spot to enter materials and fees not listed on the tuition form. I use taxact to do our taxes so I'm not sure where that spot is on the physical tax forms. But if you are using tax software there should be someplace to click and enter textbooks in.

My understanding is that if the computer and internet are used ONLY for his schooling, then you can them on the supplies line. If they are also used for other purposes, then I believe only a portion of the internet service fee can be deducted (IIRC a percentage of the bill based on usage for school..it's been awhile).

Maybe you should consult with a tax expert to get the most up-to-date info.

This is somewhat, what I have heard too... I am going to have to talk to a preparer or an accoutant.

Thanks for all the replies!:goodvibes
