Inaugural Disney Wine&Dine**1/2 Marathon** Post Race Discussion!

I actually use Body Glide on my feet all the time. It is amazing and seems to work really well for me.

Many people have suggested using bodyglide on feet. Just rub over areas that tend to get sore.

I have a questions for anyone who might know. I don't plan on staying for the After Party because I'm walking and I figure it could possibly be 2 before I get to the end (depends on fast the corrals move out). Dh is going to pick me up (rental car). Is the race ending in Epcot parking lot as it has for other races, or back in the World Showcase?
If it ends in the World Showcase I will just walk out to the parking lot afterwards, it doesn't make sense for dh to buy a party ticket just to see me finish.

SPECTATORS

Where are spectators allowed to watch the Half Marathon and Relay? Spectators will be allowed to view the start and finish of the Half Marathon and Relay. No viewing locations are available on the course or at the Relay Exchange zone.

This is from the FAQ portion of the website...so there is no one to cheer us on other than our fellow runners?! Let's be real supportive of one another out on that course!

I keep thinking there will be CMs along the route cheering. Don't know where I came up with this idea. Do we thinking this is the case or no?

Just had a very tough and hilly 7 mile run...and I am so upset, I have the WORST blisters on the backs of my heels all of a sudden. Do you think I should go ahead and wear bandaids in anticipation for blisters at the half? I would hate that to hurt me or slow me down if I dont, but I didnt know if that was silly to do :confused3

I think if you feel the need to put something on the blisters you could try moleskin. Try it in the shoes just walking first to make sure it'll stay put.

UGH! I can't believe how late I found this thread! I've been stuck on the dvc thread, as we are new members, and didn't even see this section.:confused3Background - DH and I are going to celebrate his 40th birthday, to run the 1/2 and enjoy F&W without the kids. I exercise regularly, but this is my first race. Ran 12 this weekend in 1:53. The last two were tough. :eek:We are staying at AKV the first 3 nights(getting in Friday) and then off to BWV for 2 nights to fully enjoy F&W. I have a lot of reading to do on this thread, but since it is late and I have aspin class at 5:00 tomorrow morning, it will have to wait. Very nervous and very excited! I'm feeling a little burned out on running, and quite frankly just want race day to be here! Can't wait to read everyone's post and hope it gives me the pep I need!:goodvibes

Hi ya neighbor! Welcome to this side of the boards. I enjoy lurking over on the DVC boards and dream of owning someday. There is a meet right in your hotel on Friday 10/1. We're meeting in the AKL lobby at 4pm then a group of us are having dinner at Boma at 5pm. Hope you can join us!

My co worker mentioned using that runners glide stuff on my feet? Not sure how that helps..sorry im a beginner

Definitely try the bodyglide! :thumbsup2 I have used it on my feet since I first started running. I recently have switched to vaseline since it is cheaper, and it is working well too.

We finish in the park in World Showcase, or possibly the back stage area...

Rather than have your DH get accosted by Deputy Fife for trying to sneak up to the park entrance in a car at 2AM, have him park in the Beach/Yacht guest parking area. He’ll need to show ID at the gate but then he can come out to see you pass at mile 12.9. It will provide an easier meet post race.

This is exactly what I was going to suggest. I am going to go out on a limb and say there will be a lot of spectators parking there so it is quite likely he will be parking at the over flow lot next to the Hess station. It is literally right across the street and a very short and easy walk.

It looks like we finish back stage from the course map. I'm going to make an educated guess and say it will be pretty much where we enter Epcot for the last mile or so of the January half.

I've never run a race. How early do you all plan to get to the starting point? Also, I will be in the last corral, I'm assuming, because I didn't have an official time. Do you think that all the racers will have started running by 11:00 or sooner? Just wondering how much time DH and I will have to enjoy ourselves at the after party!:cool1:My problem is, I know I will have no appetite after the race.:guilty:After running 12 on Sunday, I had to make myself eat the rest of the day. Hopefully something will sound good. Can't believe I just found this thread last night. You guys are so knowlegeable and it's really helped reading your posts. Thanks!:goodvibes

What's so funny about this is that we were in a BCV villa, but I cancelled it when I thought the half was sold out and I hadn't registered yet. Then I went on wait list and got accepted...............but, no accommodations! I'll have him try the Beach Club guest parking area. Thank goodness for cell phones!

I'm going to have him try this, but I'm feeling very guilty. He's a morning person and would usually be asleep by 9pm, up at 4am, so this is really a stretch for him. He's just an early morning kinda guy!:goodvibes

Looks like race busses run from 6-8:15 with a hard suspension starting at 8:15. I would think we start hitting the corrals around 9-9:30. I will probably try to hit a bus around 7 pm to avoid the last minute rush.
You may not be in the last corral. But even if you are it is not the end of the world. I have started in the last corral more than once and it is not all that bad. Assuming that Disney has a couple waves and you are the last runner to start plan on crossing the start no later than 10:30-10:35. So if you took the entire 3.5 hours to run the race and were the last to cross the line that would put you in around 2 am; giving you an hour and a half for the post-race party.
After your long run this weekend it is time to enjoy all your work and effort. The race itself is really a party to celebrate your training accomplishments – NO MATTER HOW IT TURNS OUT!

I WAS going to run long this weekend and just realized that I have a gimmicky 10k race this weekend. The hook is a back and forth crossing of a causeway; not once but twice. Anyway, 6 miles and almost 350’ of up.

Are you doing the Toughest 10K in Texas?! I was really close to signing up... but considering I'm brand new at this, I took the "easy" way out and ran the Galveston 10K.

Good luck the weekend!!

That's the one

I'm going to have a burger for a late lunch, and then a protein bar around 7:30 or so. My body needs protein way more than carbs.

keep it light and simple. working backwards, I am planning on a nice carby meal in mid/late afternoon. Right now I am thinking PB&J, but I am sure that I will think of something along the lines of a chicken breast on a bed of salad once the time comes. Then I will follow it up with a snack around 9:30 while we wait for the race. I would not 'load' as loading will only make you bloated or create that lump in the gut later in the day.

Thanks for the tips.

I'm not going to overload at lunch that day, but I will have a nice pasta dish at either Tutto or Mama Melrose. :)

For dinner, it looks like I'm having something light and chicken-related. :thumbsup2

Thanks again for the advice!

I'm probably having the meatloaf and mashed potatoes at the Prime Time Cafe...LOL! I think I have a 3:00 ressie. My staple when I go there - may also do the chicken noodle soup if I feel froggy. Then will probably do a protein bar while on the bus.

My problem is, I know I will have no appetite after the race.:guilty:After running 12 on Sunday, I had to make myself eat the rest of the day. Hopefully something will sound good.

Welcome!! :dance3:

I'm the same way. Any run over 7-8 miles and I have to force myself to eat/drink the rest of the day. I have absolutely no appetite (something I never thought I'd say ;) ). Nothing sounds appetizing or appealing and I never feel hungry. I doubt I'll eat much at the after party, probably just hang out and enjoy how beautiful Epcot is at night.

I can't believe it's so close!! I'm such a procrastinator and I feel like I have so much time left to think about and plan all of the little things but I have less than 2 weeks! These last few months have flown by.

Maybe Coach could say something about post-race nutrition. I'm pretty sure that getting a meal in sometime in the 2 hours after you finish a race is VERY important.
