Inaugural Disney Wine&Dine**1/2 Marathon** Post Race Discussion!

Holy cow that's a good rate. I have a split week on an off site timeshare so I could use that if the WL doesn't come through.

Anyone know how much a cab would cost? And I wonder if any of the area hotels have a free airport shuttle. Would rather not rent a car if I can avoid it!

About $10-$15 to cross WDW property. Add $10-15 to you budget for getting down to 192

So here's what I'm thinking-
stay off property, maybe @ Vistana, take their frr shuttle to Epcot, then hang out the till the race, then cab back.

Coach- any thoughts on compression sleeves? I'm recovering from a shin injury.

Well, I've got the lime green shirt to wear. I hope we can organize a meet at WWoS before the start. I'll be alone (DH and DD will meet me at the end) and PLENTY nervous, so talking to others will definitely help!

Just look for the lime green group! We always meet up before races and it is so helpful to calm nerves! Takes your mind off of the race and then before you know it, you are starting. ;)

Really excited about this race!

I am a believer and wear them after long runs. I actually run in CWx shorts and tights. While not full blown compression they do hold the muscle in place and limit stabilizer overuse. I will wear socks to help recovery in the lower legs.

I would stick with OxySox, CEP, CW-x and 2XU as these folks seem to have some science to back up their claims. Zoot, Nike and others are in the market but I have not really reviewed their products closely. Since this is a hot market there are several 'no-name' products on the market. I am a little concerned that many of these knock off products are some smoke and mirror products that offer little compression benefits.

Haven't posted in a long time, but getting ready to do 11 miles in the morning, I am so excited for this race that with the training that I have been doing I just signed up to run the Disney full marathon in January. I am thinking mid life crisis, everybody else just thinks I am crazy. Saw a bumper sticker the other day that said "running is a mental sport and I am insane"!

Good luck everyone and hope to see ya all at the after party.

Thank you for the advice. I'll jot down the names & do some shopping!

I told a friend the other day that running is the perfect combination of mental & physical torture & mental & physical reward!

Look forward to meeting everyone. Course I have to remember to introduce myself as 'BounceLT'--last time I met up w/the WISHers I walked up introced myself using my actual name & everyone looked at me like I was some
sorta whacko! LOL! I really need a WISH shirt!

Hi, Everyone

I was wondering how many of you will be wearing a W.I.S.H shirt? Do you make your own?

or do you wear something else that will let the rest of the gang know you belong to the disboards?

This will be the first race I have ever done WITHOUT a W.I.S.H. shirt. We are doing this as a family event and I believe someone is making special t-shirts for the race. I will, however, make it a point to wear my W.I.S.H. visor!

If you are coming solo, you should definitely cancel your Cape May Cafe dinner and join us at Boma!

I will try to stop by and say hi! But not to eat. I only like Boma for breakfast. Plus, they don't have Oreo Bon-Bons. ;)

I'm super behind on training. DH and I just got back from at week at WDW this past weekend, and I've been telling myself all summer i'd get serious about training once we got back. I looked at the calendar and realized I leave 7 weeks from tomorrow for the race! I'm thankful i'm just running the longer leg of the relay! I ran 6 miles on the treadmill today, and will hopefully get out for a decent run this weekend. I'm thinking about adding a mile to my long run each week until I get up to 9 miles, then taper from there. That would start my tapering during the 2nd week of September. Does that seem too soon?

I am even more behind! Working full-time and going to school full-time = lousy training. :( I just ran 4 miles last night. I am hoping to increase my runs by a mile every week up until the race.

Cool! If I see you all I'll come on over and say

Seven weeks?! I like it better when we talk in terms of months! My training has been going well and I've been keeping up with what I need to get done (my OCD self made a Calendar and printed it out using the Bingham training program in the back of Marathoning for Mortals [which I slightly modified as I wanted to go 12 miles instead of 10 miles for my longest run]). My goal for the 8k in a couple of weeks is to finish in less than a 9 1/2 minute mile. Every 8 or 10k I've done recently I've been averaging about a 10-10 1/2 minute mile pace. I don't know with seven weeks left if I'll be able to do the half in less than 10 minute miles but I'm still hoping!

I do 4 miles tomorrow so I'll be working more on speed tomorrow.

Ah crap when you say that it makes me think :scared1: I am not ready :rotfl: I am attempting 6 miles tomorrow...lets hope for the best there!! Hope everyone is getting excited and ready for the race!:goodvibes

Thank goodness I'm not the only one only at mile 6!! Go Go Go!! WE CAN DO IT! Wait, didn't I just run the Princess 5 months ago???? Feels like 5 years! Darn shins!

Well, if you are going to taxi it anyway check an off-site. I got a $39 rate in May 2009 in the Days Inn on 192.

Know what? I just check rental car rates & I can get one from L & M for $100 and change for 3 days! If I can't get into a host resort & end up staying off-property I may as well get a darn car. By the time you pay for taxis and what-not, it's just not worth it.

Booked SSR for Friday nite so as to get as much rest as possible, not to mention be there in plenty of time to get my usual massage from Pat at ShipShape! Aaaahhh, fantastic! Now all I have to do is get at least one more night & hopefully will be good to go!

So just curious, how is everyone who is NOT staying at a host resort getting to & from the race?

Haha hopefully you will be at my pace so I am not all alone :rotfl: I am staying at POP and have been toying with the idea of taking taxis around...how about you?

If the 84 at the end of your name signifies the year you were born then my guess is you'll be way ahead of me, since I'm Shanonn too, but 69..Lol! Since I sustained a knee buckle & small separation of the calf & shin in March I'm averaging about 12min/mi. I know this won't be my best run, but I'll have a great time doing it!

I'm booked for SSR on Friday but don't have a spot for Sat yet. A car rental is about $100 so the car vs taxi thing is going to be a toss-up depending on where I end up for those nites. I'm really hoping for a DVC reservation. It's tough spending $$ when it's just me in the room.
