So we got on a monorail at MK a few minutes after 10. We sat there for at least 15 minutes waiting for the OK to pull away. We finally left only to be held at CR, for about 45 minutes. The CM was announcing people could get off, use the rest room, get a drink & we’d still be waiting. They had no idea when we’d be able to leave again. Eventually they said buses had been dispatched to take people to the monorail resorts, but we could stay in if we wanted. We decided to stay on, since standing at the CR bus stop in torrential rain & lightning didn’t sound good. About 10 minutes later, we were told the monorail would not come back up tonight, so we’d need to get off & go take a bus.
We went down to the lobby, the line for a bus filled the bus stop. I requested a Minnie Van which was 25 minutes out. About 10 minutes later, we saw a family from our monorail car. They said the buses stopped running because the monorail was back running. I cancelled the Minnie Van & we went back to the monorail. There was only 1 security station open, had to take the elevator up, the escalator wasn’t running. Security was slow, we missed a train while we were in line. The next one that came was packed, some people got off, but we walked the whole line, every car was packed with strollers & scooters with nowhere to even stand. Only about people got on, 3 other groups & DH & I had to go back out & wait for another monorail. That one had a few more people get off so we found a car to get on.
At the TTC, almost 3/4 of the monorail emptied out. This was really annoying. The express monorail was running, but resort guests couldn’t get on because people going to the TTC were filling the resort line.
We left MK at 10, didn’t get back to Grand Floridian until 11:55!! Another family we spoke to tried to ask about the monorail & buses at the CR. The CM at the front desk told them she didn’t know anything about the monorail & kind of dismissed them. A Disney Springs bus driver had told them there were no buses to monorail resorts & they’d have to go to Disney Springs from CR to get to Polynesian! No answers, no communication to guests. It was a real mess. I get the weather can’t be controlled. But this is Florida during hurricane season. Storms like this are not a 1 off. They should have a plan but if they do, they didn’t implement it well. Not did they communicate & care for their guests.
