In What Century Is Dvc Tech Operating?!?! UPDATE (post #1) 10/20/07

Thanks Canwegosoon.
I e-mailed DVC too and will probably get the same reply. I'm an IT manager myself so I understand the frustration but they could at least put a note on the login page stating what features aren't working. It would alleviate a lot of e-mails and phone calls.

UPDATE 10/20/07: Per a suggestion on another thread from MS, I called MS and asked to speak to a web specialist. I was told that now MS computers are down as well. The CM says that every time tech works on the system there are more problems. THIS SOUNDS LIKE A CANDID CAMERA STUNT! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: We can have fancy graphics and music but not basic operation! :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

My neighbor is a progammer consultant to Disney. He has been doing work on and off for the past year down in Florida. He says that Disney's computer system is really screwed up. Too many programs conflict with each other and don't integrate.

He literally would fix one problem, only to expose another problem that was being masked by the previous problem. More work for him, more of a mess for them.

How about the sloppy "complimentary vacation" email they just sent- in case you would like to see the missing image about 3/4 way through the message:
1007_vacation_suitcases.gif

Just a typo, but seriously, do they not send a test message before sending it out to everyone?

Oh my, if Jean is angry it must be serious! I am sorry that you are so frustrated with this.

I agree...and it is not just DVC, but Disney in general...the computer systems and programs are archaic! As Jean stated, travel software and prgramming is not a big deal....there are only a million sites on the web that let you plan, book, and purchase all of your travel plans. But when it comes to the # 1 travel destination on the planet, their computer systems are junk.

CaskBill should go apply! :thumbsup2

Actually, it came through clean for me. But then again, they the wrong phone number for my guide....

For me- that part of the email was just a blank box because there was a missing DOT (it said ..._vacation_suitcasesgif in the code instead of ..._vacation_suitcases.gif) I don't mean to nitpick- I know things happen-I am in charge of email blasts and newsletters for my work and my PTA and I certainly have let typos slip through- everybody makes mistakes. But that would have been simple to catch just by previewing the message. Also is said "Your vacation guide is:..." Then it listed a phone number and no name, and it is not my guide's phone number. And it is just one more example of these technical mistakes. There are just too many. I expect a higher level of professionalism from Disney than what I have seen lately. I hate to be such a negative Nellie but if I sent this out my boss would sit down with me and give me a serious 'talking to'.

CaskBill should go apply!
So True! I would be happy to write a letter of recommendation! DVC Planner ROCKS!

Agreed... I send mass emails to our customers about end-of-life product announcements... I always send it to myself and a few others first to review.

Don't see how anyone could allow any mistake to get through.

I've been complaining about the Disney Cruise Line website for years. And as a new DVC member, I see that the DVC site is equally frustrating.

I also noticed that for their room reservation site, you are not able to input a discount code. Why on earth would they not want to cut down on the number of calls they receive everytime a new discount code is announced?

Just absolutely boggles the mind.

FYI - I work in the IT field. I have a BS in Computer Science, and an MSA in Software Engineering Administration. I am also a former CM, and spent over 2 of my 5 years working in the Reservations Dept of Walt Disney Travel Company. So I think I'm qualified to say that their websites stink!

I (per the MAC users suggestion) installed Firefox and accessed the DVCMembers website.

Guess what?

Vacation Details still does NOT work!!!

Has anyone sucessfully accessed their Vacation Details since 10/22/2007? And if you did, what OS and Browser are you running?

TIA

Hey !! One bit of good news --- they fixed the "null" resort bug!! My AKV contracts now displays as "Disney's Animal Kingdom Villas" instead of "null". It took 9 months, but it's finally fixed! I'm starting to get some of my hope back.

I have been trying, daily and unsucessfully, to access Vacation Details since Oct 8.

About the same for us. We had no problems whatsoever with the member site for a year and a half...until now. Still can't access Vacation Details. So, after a call today to MS who transferred me to a tech advisor, I was told that they would have to submit a report on the problem after explaining that we haven't been able to access the Vacation Details page for a couple of weeks without getting the "We're sorry. The page you are attempting to access is currently not available." error.

Later today, I receive an email saying this:

"The challenges you are facing in registering for the Disney Once Upon a
Time Sweepstakes at dvcmember.com was recently brought to the attention
of our IT Partners. They are working on identifying the cause so that
they can correct the issue. We do appreciate your concern and your
continued patience as we hope to have this resolved soon. Please do
check the website tomorrow. Thank you,"

WTH????? Sweepstakes registration???????

IT Partners??????? That's interesting. Is Disney actually paying an outside contractor to mess the member site up like this?

To make it even funnier, we also got the "To err is human" email today because of the messed up Free Vacation email that we received yesterday. :lmao:

Yes they use a company by the name of ACS (Affiliated Computer Services), they are similar to EDS. If they are anything like EDS I could see things being really messed up.

It took us an hour and a half to check in at POFQ on Thursday morning this last week because the DVC registration system had not taken the names off of the reservation and changed them to me after a friend decided to cancel his trip after we made Reservation Points reservations at POFQ. It took me an hour to convince the desk at POFQ that I was the owner and that we needed to call DVC to straighten it out. Once DVC was on the phone the resort would not check me in until they got the update in their system which took about 45 minutes. I hate waiting when I want to go to the park!!! :confused3

I too have applied to jobs at Disney only to be turned down. :confused3 It looks like they need the help but keep sending me letters telling me I am over qualified! :confused3

And they resent the FREE VACATION e-mail.
They resent it to me too- and it said OOPS- "To err is human..." they corrected the incorrect info about my guide- but it still had the missing image due to a sloppy typo in the html code! Now that is UNBELIEVABLE.

You are talking about a system that punchs little holes in tickets at DL to track how many days are used. And...stamps your ticket with an Office Depot stamp for early entry.

Disney IT should be ashamed of how bad thier enterprise system is. Maybe the problem is that they use a VIC 20 as thier core! :)

I have had the exact same message about "scheduled maintanence activities" on my account since JULY!! I have called and e-mailed about it multiple times and all I get in response is that the techs are aware of the problem and are working on it. Really? For four months I have been able to access absolutely nothing in regards to my account. Now when I e-mail to ask about it, the person who had been writing to me will not even write me back. I get the standard "you will have a response within 3 days" message, but no one ever actually writes back at all. SO FRUSTRATING!:headache:

JULY??? Your account has been broken sincd JULY???!!!!

OMG!

Mine is still broken, too. Thanks to the tip about looking at the activity instead of vacation details, I was able to figure out that a waitlist request came through on the 26th for me. Looking at vacation details I'd have never known since it still isn't working!

Just wanted to report that I received a phone call from DVC member satisfaction regarding my e-mail complaining about the member website issues. Unfortunately I was not home at the time but the message said that it would be reported to the leadership. We'll see.

Awe.... I used have one of those. 8 bit processing & 5K of ram. All you needed was a TV. I Also had a Coleco Adam. I paid $550 for the Adam and that was a good price. Man... that was 25 years ago. :sad2:
