In Search of My Body....Not the One I ATE! Vol. 5: Goddesses are Always on Top!

Lisa... your words are spot on... The stories about your parents make me smile... :goodvibes

OK - ate some grilled chicken, 1/2 of a roll and some lettuce for lunch (yes a vegetable). My stomach is churning away thinking finally some real fuel... I am happy... Life may finally be starting to return to normal. I am weighing in tonight at JC and I think I will attempt to work out - even if it is a light workout it is something right?

Geez Paula. It hit hard, eh? So sorry.

How's your dad doing?

Spoke with dad this morning. He is grumpy and arguing with the nurses. Basically, he is right on track. His PT has started and he is sore, but that is to be expected.

Thanks for asking.

Paula, I am so glad your dad is doing well! Great news!

I'm here, lurking. Lurky McLurkster, that's me!

Nancy, I don't have a Wii fit. Liz does, not sure if anyone else here does, though. I looked into it a bit and the general consensus that I heard was that it is really fun, and a good workout for someone who isn't in very good shape. With your gym time, trainers, running, etc., you would likely find it a fun diversion but not a workout.

To be quite honest, the reason I'm considering looking into it is not for me (however I would hope that I would use it too) but for Becca. She is 13 1/2, and done growing. She is the only one in our house who doesn't get regular exercise. Stephen & I both work out religiously. Nate is a 3-season runner. Seth belongs to the weight-lifting club & is on the "field" portion of the track team. Becca? She used to play softball (which I hardly count as exercise most of the time because they are idle so much) but she is now into her singing and drama stuff so deeply that there isn't time for softball anymore. She's very busy. Just not very active. And we don't live in an area where it is easy (or even safe) for her to just jump on her bike, or go rollerblading - it requires that we "go" somewhere for that.

She is due for a physical soon, and I have a feeling they are not going to be thrilled with her weight. She's not "fat" but she definitely has the potential. she's built just like me after all. the poor kid. She's going to fight this her whole life. Better to start now and be ahead of the game!

Your body can't build and fight this at the same time.

true. very true. Perhaps that's why I"m always a slow healer :rolleyes1

And I'm sitting here ont he disboards instead of packing.

Ah. Practicing the art of avoidance are you? I'm good at that. Really good. If you need any tips, let me know. ;)

Thank goodness you've finally turned that corner! :thumbsup2 Be gentle in your workout. Your body will thank you for it.

Grumpy dad= dad who is feeling ok then, yes? ah, the joys of parents in rehab.

My mother was a riot when she got her hip replaced. She'd been moving so slowly for so long - she got her new hip and part of her therapy was to walk around the rehab center with her walker (the kind with wheels on the bottom...) :scared1: OMG she was he!! on wheels! She nearly mowed over some old lady who was in her path :rotfl2:

Nancy - I have heard good things about the Wii Fit, but like Kat said, it may not be right for you, but Becca may love it. I did see in the Best Buy flyer on Sunday that Jillian has a Wii Fit 'game' out there. Something tells me that her 'game' would be brutal.

Dad being grumpy = dad healing. Too funny about your mom mowing down that other lady. Dad on his walker should be interesting. I promise not to overdue it tonight. I plan on begging Jesse for mercy when I get there and bribing him if necessary... :rotfl2:

Does anyone else find it rather sick that Disney named their happy, family friendly yet adult and now defunct complex Pleasure Island? Have you SEEN Pinocchio??? O.M.G.

Who okayed that decision???

:surfweb:Yep. I pick yep.

Hi Kat. How are you?

Hi Lisa!!

I am hanging in there. Back on track but been a little afraid to talk about it. Even through all of the bad eating and such of March and parts of April, I managed to maintain weight so I am pretty happy about that.

I am up to 60 real pushups now (I think, it was somewhere between 50 and 60 but I lost count just trying to get through them), and 20 on knees. Been doing my kickboxing class carrying 2 lb weights through much of it, which is easier said than done.

I also just *feel* stronger, if that makes sense. It seems like I can get through the jumping jacks and kicking and punching sequences without as much effort as I used to have to expend, and the abs for sure. I can do most of what she wants us to do, still feel like dying, but not as bad, and sometimes I even power up on my own.

My FIL and his walker were a scary, scary thing. But he defines grumpy, even NOT sick.

Oh, and Pleasure Island used to not be family friendly. You had to be 21 to even get through the gates to the Island. They opened it up sometime in the late 90s/early 2000s, I think.

Is it Friday yet?

Does anyone else find it rather sick that Disney named their happy, family friendly yet adult and now defunct complex Pleasure Island? Have you SEEN Pinocchio??? O.M.G.

Who okayed that decision???

Liz - it isn't named after PI in Pinocchio. The Imagineers made up some crazy story about the "discovery of an abandoned shipbuilding operation of one Merriweather Adam Pleasure that Disney designers decided to restore." (from the Disney Encyclopedia A to Z) As a matter of fact, in a book I was reading after Christmas, they got so involved and windy in creating the story, people got lost. Like who cares. We're here to party. So they dropped the hubbub of the story.

Did you just watch Pinocchio or something?

Kat - I swear I saw kids there earlier in the night, back in the late 90's. And besides, it was totally a cleaned up Disney-fied verison of Church Street in Orlando. So, to me, coming from NYC clubs as a 20-something, it was family friendly. ;)

Lyz - I am sure they made up a story for it, like they do for everything else (and that's not a criticism, I am an addict, after all) but they so got the name from Pinocchio.

Yes, just watched it. The island that has many different clubs to entice you! You go through an arch just like PL. Watching the movie today was like looking at an early planning sketch of PI. But here's the creepy part - where little boys don't come back as little boys. I know they turn into donkeys, but it's just so pedophile sounding.

Seriously, how did people watch these movies and not see these horrible undertones? Oh, Lordy, this is what therapy does to me - makes me examine things!

BTW, Nancy has a funny comment on my FB re this! :thumbsup2

I don't know when they started letting kids in - But we did take our kids there last April - to Adventurers Club & Comedy Club. They had a blast. Of course, they are teenagers. There were still strictly "over 21" clubs there, which I can totally appreciate.

I think so much of WDW is not just "family friendly" but geared towards making the little ones happy, that it's really NICE to have more of an adult area. I'll be really sad if they do away with that completely.

Remember that time when Lyz wrote a secret message? with "invisible ink" Don't know what made me think of that.

They probably had to come up with the story to take away from the seedyness of Pinocchio. Spin it. I haven't watched the movie since I was a child.

I remember being there on my honeymoon and little kids being there, like grade school. And teens for sure. Now, I generally like kids so it didn't bother me, and they weren't in the clubs. But they were walking around. I think kids need to be able to go places at night, too. I mean teens rather. I'd be happy to have some teen clubs and some adult clubs. I don't go to WDW to get tanked and bay like a donkey...excepting Jellyrolls, of course!

Oh, Pinocchio, how you've scarred me for the night!

IMHO, WDW will always have some adult areas. They developed PI after they found people left their property for Orlando night spots. They will always, always do what they can so that you can spend all your time on property and not anywhere else when you come to Orlando. And frankly, we do! Remember, we don't even rent a car. Universal? What's that? :rotfl:

I looked it up... up until August of 2004, PI operated from 7PM until 2AM and there was an admission fee and an age limit to enter. They opened it up and made the admission fee only to enter the clubs.

D complains about this specific topic a lot so that is why it rang the bell for me.

Well, since it's been almost ten years (TEN YEARS MAN, TEN YEARS!) since I got married, I am guessing they could have been in DTD and I remember it all as one.

And really, who cares? My point is Pinocchio has some seriously creepy stuff in it. But again that might only be to me, eh?

Anyone get the movie reference? Bueller? Bueller?

I know. I know. :lmao:

Went in 1995.

1) First barred off area to only of age guests. Only they could go through.

*** then period of time when you could walk through and certain time it was barred off. Cut off time.

2) Then changed to anyone could walk through the area at any time. But of course only those of age could go in the drinking clubs.

3)Then went INSANE for a short time, INSANE, and let many in clubs and arm bracelet for those who were of age to drink. It was disgusting. And I'm not dreaming. I was there twice during this period. I'm laughing and I know this isn't funny. I'm laughing at those who lost their minds and probably job after that time at Disney. Jean remembers a night during this ridiculous time let kids IN the club period. Kids. I mean kids. Are you ready? She said in BET they were grinding and winding and this young young boy was in there simply staring and staring and taking it in. Like he was in absolute shock. Mesmirized. Fixated she said. She was in shock. Disney was lucky no big bad press on that period.

I'm sure they felt pressured to be child centric. I hate that. I think we are way too child centric. And I adore children. Adore them. But there was some pure happiness the day I could play tennis, at night, at sixteen. Like waiting and waiting to be older. And finally - yeah. Finally I can play at night. Actually book a court. It's like this generation has no big changes to look forward to. I hate it.

Then they went back to #2 before it closed.

I found this talk on FB. I'm trying to book one of my nieces flight. She FB IMs me while I'm trying to figure out the PI talk! The pop up from her scared the sh!t out of me. The things you learn. :lmao:

So I still have to catch up on the thread....

Ok, well, I'm not insane then. Thanks, Lisa! :lmao:

Watching the Mary Kay Letourneau Story. Lifetime Movie Network. Because I might as well continue the pedophile theme for today, eh? This is actually a very good movie. Or maybe I'm just weak headed from the shooting back pain I have going on, suddenly.

Very good point, Lisa.

I'm watching Biggest Loser. It's the make-over show.

What's the deal with the back pain? :confused3 Where did that come from?

I"m watching BL right now. The Mary Kay story is hard to watch. Obviously. I know how it all turns out, but man, is it hard to watch.

Back pain...no idea! I was leaning over to rinse Emily's hair off and bang! Pain! Thankfully Nick had walked in and I just handed it off to him - here, honey, rinse of the soapy child!

I'm on the couch with Advil and water now. Would love some major, trippy painkillers!
