In Search of my Body...Not The One I Ate.. #4 "Inspiring Others... 1 Tiara at a Time"

I went to WW on Thursday and am down -3.4. for the challenge, I am following WW, have been tracking and have had most of my water.

Awesome! :cool1:

Kelly - after hearing about your exploits with the lawnmower, please don't stop by my jobsite. I would have to wrap you in bubblewrap in addition to the hard hat before I could let you out of the office. :rotfl2: Glad you haven't done any real damage to yourself. Please try to keep it that way.

:rotfl2: Everytime my brother buys something thats wrapped in bubble wrap he offers it to me!

Kelly - your lawn mower story, hi lar ious. Well, since I know you are ok. And you got out of moving. Ever again. Smarty pants.

:thumbsup2

EXACTLY. EriKa - I don't try to convince you fried cheese is healthy cause it's dairy. Don't be trying to sell me "dressy fleece". (Oh and I LOVE fried cheese.)

This made me laugh so much! :lmao:

So maybe it is true that weight is just a number.... 45 inches!! Thats insane! Thats over a yard of fat that I've lost! I am definitely going to strut today! :cheer2:

You look FAB! 45 inches is crazy - you go strut!:cheer2:

So funny, and glad you were okay. I shouldn't laugh but I am.

Laugh away! We laugh about it now. Actually thinking about it, we laughed at the time! :upsidedow

Do you guys think that winter has something to do with the depression? Because winter REALLY takes it out of me. One of the many reasons I moved south.

Yep. My mum is a very keen gardener, and in the winter she is miserable!

As to my feelings on fitting fast food into your life, I think that for most of us (Erika and Nancy and LisaPR notwithstanding), this is something that we have to do in order to make this a lifestyle. It isn't something that I personally think should be eaten every meal, or even every day, but making that healthy choice in a pinch is what will keep the weight off in the long run.

Your advice is great :thumbsup2

You know what night it is Kat - CSI NY night. Oh yep, going to get me a Flack fix! :rotfl2:

Liz - So sorry you are feeling down :grouphug:

Erika - Very cool that your mum is going to do the tri with you :cheer2:

Paula - Thanks for telling us about the date. You'll come to the right decision for you :grouphug:

Steph - How is your little one today?

Everyone - :wave2:

Food:

Breakfast - Cereal and skimmed milk
Snack - Caramel Snack-A-Jacks
Lunch - WW Bagel with wafer thin ham and low fat spread cheese
Snack - Low fat vanilla yoghurt
Dinner - Salmon fishcakes and curly fries (yep. Curly fries. I think they work out at 10,000 ww points. And worth every one!)

Water - 5 glasses
Alcohol - One glass of rose wine (at work none the less! Our boss came in today and said we 'deserved a treat' and poured everyone a glass. I think shes crazy :crazy2: )

Curly fries are part of the food group I like to call Satan's Food... anything that tastes that damn good must be created by the Devil himself...

Sarah--GREAT job with your results this far! Way to go! You SHOULD strut! Totally.

Kat/Liz--you are just cold and jealous. Nancy and I are happy and warm and cozy in our flannel and fleece. Honestly, in the non-summer months, I usually have least one piece of fleece clothing on at all times. Happy.

Paula--so much to say to you, but it deserves its own post, and it deserves enough time for me to write it all out. So I will come back and do that later. But I am just so so so proud of you right now on so many levels!

Liz--sorry that you are sad and that N is an a$$. I feel awful that I couldn't talk yesterday...so sorry! I had 6 kids in my house and J and just walked through the door and then there is the whole Karen stalking thing (have to fill everyone in on that still!). But I have time today. I will call or you can.

Lyz--sorry for the funk. Been there, done that, and it will happen again. Funks come and go. Part of life, right? Give in to it and you will get it out of your system that much faster. xoxox

(once again, E, Nancy, LisaPR, people that hate junk food, you can skip right over this part...)

I forgot to mention that "healthy choice" might not be the right word in what I said below. Because there isn't much healthy about fries, from a nutritional standpoint. However, to those of us that love them, sometimes it is better to get a "fix" now and again, than to deprive until you go off and binge. So it is healthy to your psyche, if not your body, if that makes sense.

And OH YEAH, CSI/Flack night. We don't get a new one until Feb 11, bastages. Which one are you on, now?

I love your food recaps. Salmon fishcakes?

Why would I be cold? It is almost 70 here. puckerup:

Oh, and Liz (and Lyz/Paula too), you know you can call anytime, right? Hope that the kid's b-day party is fun and that you are having a good time catching up with Kim.

:) Hello all...

i'm finally starting to come out of my narcotic haze, thank god!

E - the medicine made me ravenous, however it made food taste funny, so i wanted to eat all the time, but never ate much...... if that makes sense

It also made me retain a lot of water i feel... oh well

Weighed in yesterday, no change this week, but i wasn't able to excercise at all due to being drugged up, so gotta get a move on for this week!

Off to read a little bit of what i missed the last day or so, then off to my mother's B-day.... she turns 50 on Monday, so it's a big birthday!

Hope everyone is having a good weekend, i'll check back in later or in the morning

Steph - so glad you posted. Sorry about all the drama. And Pnemouna (I can't spell it.) That's traumatizing. Remember last year, I went to Disney World with hubs over Valentines day, and Maddi got pnemouna when I was gone. She was sooooo sick. Take care.

Kelly - your lawn mower story, hi lar ious. Well, since I know you are ok. And you got out of moving. Ever again. Smarty pants.

EXACTLY. EriKa - I don't try to convince you fried cheese is healthy cause it's dairy. Don't be trying to sell me "dressy fleece". (Oh and I LOVE fried cheese.)

LOVE IT. Your momma's coming. LOVE IT!

Molli has a bedazzler. Just sayin'.

:rotfl2:

Paula, your coffee date sounds like it went well. And you are so awesome for your honesty with him. Hang up with the ex is not a good thing, but it might not be a deal breaker.

I am so not working too hard. I'm barely working. I am stuck in limbo. I am so un motivated. I think I might be depressed, but I'm too stagnet to even embrace a proper depression. I am in a funk. I so don't want to do anything. Work. Grocery shopping. Homework. I want to do nothing. I don't even want to shop! :scared: I need a jump start. And my tax situation, just keeps getting bigger as I put it off. OK, enough wining.

Off to take a nap that I don't have time for.

Lyz - Thank you (to quote LisaV) cutie for your kind words.... :grouphug: Hang in there. I so feel your lack of motivation to do any work. The pile on my desk is huge and I just don't want to deal with it at all. Let's make a pact to tackle one task on Monday and finish it. Deal????

Sending you hugs :grouphug: :grouphug:

Stacey - so glad that you are starting to feel better. Don't push yourself too hard. Give your body a chance to recover.

Sarah - 45" Oh my freakin word that's a lot of inches. You are amazing girl!!!!::yes:: ::yes:: ::yes::

Thanks to everyone who commented on the date. The more I think about it, I think it is a case of the I'm just not that into you kind of thing. I'm going to sleep on it and make my mind up tomorrow. A good experience on getting out there though.

Worked out with Jesse this afternoon. Feeling pretty good right now. I am off to catch up on laundry and maybe even read some more of Twilight....

Talk to you later,
Paula

Thanks!!

That was my thinking exactly. Ive been pretty good all week, but I really fancied the curly fries, so I had a small portion with my dinner instead of waiting and having a huge portion later on!

And OH YEAH, CSI/Flack night. We don't get a new one until Feb 11, bastages. Which one are you on, now?

We are just a few episodes in - the TV guide for tonights episode says 'Stellas life is put in danger over an archaeologists possible find of a rare coin from Ancient Greece'. Sounds good!

I love your food recaps. Salmon fishcakes?

Salmon Fishcakes - I love them! They are salmon and a little bit of potato in breadcrumbs. Yum!

I have it on good authority that reading some more of Twilight will make you feel even better! :rotfl:

I forgot to say yesterday, Yes, courgette = zucchini. If you googled it the results may be pretty weird - not twinkie weird but weird all the same!

Sound good! Recipe!?! Or is it something you buy prepared?

I eat zucchini all the time. Love it. It makes a great addition to pasta primavera or a stir fry, for like no calories. I love bulking foods. :)

I think I know the ep that you are talking about. There is one GREAT Flack coming up soon. Can't wait until you see it!

Okay, runners. I have a few questions. First of all, I see people hanging on to the bar on the treadmill. What is that? Are you supposed to, or is that cheating? I hear Jillian on BL saying "Don't Hang On!!"

Second, how do you tell distance/pace/etc when you are running outside? Is there some fancy gadget that you buy? From now until April or so is the prime outside time in this area. After April it will be too hot unless you like early mornings (I don't. The day I get up before work to run is the day that I become Erika. :p ).

I did find a fun google maps based distance calculator that gave me a general idea and plotted my course, but I wasn't sure if any of you had tips or tricks for this.

The ones I had tonight were bought prepared, but I do have a WW recipe for them:

Salmon Fishcakes

2 Salmon Steaks
3 Baking Potatoes
1 teaspoon grated garlic
1 teaspoon grated ginger
1 chilli - optional
1 tablespoon coriander - optional
1 egg - lightly whisked

Peel and boil potatoes until soft. Steam the salmon for 7-8 minutes. Mash the potatoes and leave until cool enough to handle.
Mix everything together in a bowl then make into 8 fishcakes.
Put on a baking tray and spray with low fat spray.
Bake for 20-25 minutes 180 degrees

If I fancy them in breadcrumbs I buy the little bags of crumbs, wipe a little bit of egg onto the fishcakes and coat in breadcrumbs before I put them in the oven!

I love courgette/zuchinni in pasta! I also like making roasted vegetable wraps and they really bulk it up!

Im looking forward to a good Flack episode! :cheer2:

Running outside beats the TM anyday, if you ask me. You get a better run in and it goes by so much faster when you can watch the scenery go by.

Knowing your distance/pace. Yes, there are great gadgets out there, but they are pricey. I just go one for Christmas. The Garmin Forerunner series is the one to get (and may be really the only one that truly does what you want), and even used they are going to be anywhere from $130 - $500 for newer models. You can find a Forerunner 205 in that $130 range and it is awesome.

But as a beginner, I don't think you want to make that investment just yet. I would use one of two methods:

--go to www.mapmyrun.com (.org? can'y remember) and you tell it where you ran (put in the zip and it will bring up your town, etc) it will create your map and it will tell you the distance. As for pace, you can do the math on that. If you went 2 miles in 30 minutes, then it as at a 15 mpm pace.

--what I often do (or did before I had my Garmin) was just drive it first. I went all around my house and learned the distance from my starting point to the next interesection or whatever landmark. And now I just know how far everything around me is from point A to point B. And this is what I would suggest you do for these early days of running. It is SHOCKING to see how far a mile really is when you are looking at your odometer!

I am really mad about last night but I looked back and know what happened. I did not have enough water. I did not eat enough for a snack between b-fast and lunch or nothing between lunch and supper and actually...most of the snack/dinner was one big blur.

I set my phone alarm to be a reminder for me to eat and drink. It is so easy to feel good about your choices until you hit 8 pm and are starving.

Anyway, moving on and having a better more concious day.

I hate screwing up. Hate it.

Good Morning! Sorry I've been MIA. My daughter and her dog have been at my house for the past week and she hogs the computer.

I went to WW on Thursday and am down -3.4. for the challenge, I am following WW, have been tracking and have had most of my water.

Awesome weight loss, Sunny! :cheer2: Oh - and glad you have your house back! :thumbsup2

Nancy - Proud of you for resisting the wine last night. My offer to come down and show your kids my angry eyes over their report cards is open...

:rotfl2: Yeah. He *knew* he was going to be in the doghouse. No big surprise to him. We have always, always warned them what would happen if they didn't meet certain minimum requirements. :sad2:

Pad Thai will wait until Sunday because today is real cheat day...

Do you make your own? We love Pad Thai and DD wants me to make it - successfully. We made one recipe that was o.k., but not quite as good as we had hoped.

I actually looked at some pre-packaged stuff at the store today, but couldn't buy it. There was no way. It had over 1000mg of sodium per serving. Just not gonna knowingly do that to myself. :scared:

EXACTLY. EriKa - I don't try to convince you fried cheese is healthy cause it's dairy. Don't be trying to sell me "dressy fleece". (Oh and I LOVE fried cheese.)

:lmao:

Sorry about the funk. :flower3: I hate funks. They suck.

Funkin' Sucks. :upsidedow

I have lost a total of 45 inches all over.

WOW! :cool1: That's awsome. 45" is almost 4 feet. So wonderful.

Thats Ok nancy I drank enough last night for the two of us.

Oh my, Steph! It's been a long time since I had to "pull over" :drive: Glad you're feeling ok today though. Take care of that leg!!! And watch yourself around that puppy - don't let her knock you off balance. You could end up hurting yourself more. :sad2:

Do you guys think that winter has something to do with the depression? Because winter REALLY takes it out of me. One of the many reasons I moved south.

The darkness factor has a LOT of impact on me. That whole "seasonal light disorder". Hate it. It sucks the life outta me. Makes me want to eat, sleep...hibernate really. I actually find that if I hit a tanning booth even once a week for 10-15 minutes, it makes a HUGE difference for me.

As for this whole fast food thing, I can easily sit here and be all self righteous and proud of myself because I don't eat it. Like ever. I don't even know the last time I ate at any fast food place.

However- I cannot say that means I make better choices. For example. Today I had to take my parents to the airport. My plan was to drop them off, then go to Target (10 minutes away from airport) I *thought* they were going to be at my house around 1:00. Plenty of time for me to have lunch before I left. My mother called at 11:30. They were on their way, would be there in a few minutes. I hadn't showered even :faint:

I quick showered, took them to the airport, went to Target. No lunch. Got home at 3:00 - and promptly ate 2 giant fistfulls of chips while I made lunch, then 2 HUGE peanutbutter cookies. So yeah. I didn't eat fast food. Big deal. I probably would have been better off if I had stopped, made a good choice and not let myself get so beyond starving that I crammed anything and everything in site into my mouth.

Dinner - Salmon fishcakes and curly fries (yep. Curly fries. I think they work out at 10,000 ww points. And worth every one!)

10,000 WW points  Yep. Sometimes you just have to do it, and get it out of your system! Glad you enjoyed them so much

However, to those of us that love them, sometimes it is better to get a "fix" now and again, than to deprive until you go off and binge. Totally agree. Better for me to have something and work it into my plan, then to try to avoid it, not plan for it, yet eat it anyway. :confused3

:) Hello all...

Stacey! Glad you are on the mend :wave2:

Okay, runners. I have a few questions. First of all, I see people hanging on to the bar on the treadmill. What is that? Are you supposed to, or is that cheating? I hear Jillian on BL saying "Don't Hang On!!"

No holding on. Cheating. Totally cheating. And bad form as well. Slow down if you need to. Don't hold on.

I do not use a gizmo that tells me my distance/pace outside. Some do (I think Amy, E and LisaPR all have the garmin watches). I do have a rough idea of the distances I run - I have a microsoft maps software that I use to plan routes for biking, but typically run on the bike trail which has known segment lengths.

I wear a Polar heart rate monitor watch. I know my exercise time, and then use my time and approx distance to determine how my pacing is going. But when outside, I just run at whatever pace feels good at the time. I do know that I tend to run faster outside than I do on the treadmill. Not a lot faster, but faster all the same.

If you know your approx distance you can keep time with any kind of watch. Or even a stopwatch. No need to invest in some fancy gadget unless you are really sure that this is something that you want to keep doing. Even then - you still don't *need* a gadget. I just like to play with my toys. They distract me from the fact that I'm running ::yes::

Good job tracking. And noticing trends. And having a strategy for dealing with it. :thumbsup2 It will all come together if you are patient and persistant. :upsidedow

Quick post - have not eaten anything at the 2 hockey games - even though my sister is evil and bought coco and cheeze pretzel - hope her hips explode...:rotfl2:

I have read and here is what I remember after my quotes got lost -

E - I have tracked every day for the challenge and did excersize 3 times so I am on track - need to up that water though past the 8 glasses.

Liz - sorry that you and Nick are not cuddle bunnies right now. It will get better.

Paula - go on a second date. Everybody is nervou on the first and he may just be a talker when he gets nervous. Maybe set the ground rules that you would like this date to foccus on the two of you and although you appreciate his hurt over his ex relationship, you want to make sure he is ready for a new one. Maybe he isn't aware of how much he talked about it. Kinda like my "...'s" I am just saying that most relationship experts say give it a second try and then you have a better understanding of his and your reality.

Who knows? Maybe he is a schmuck anyway or maybe he will be better that before. But then you know. Do you have a list of what you are looking for? I think that helps at least to know you are not short selling your needs and makes sure you are looking for the right things.

Dan's mom is dating a guy right now that is exactly what she would have asked God for yet he doesn't float her boat. Dan said it wasn't God's fault that when she was praying for this man she forgot to throw in sexy as a request! :rotfl2:

Lyz - honey I hope you get outta the funk. I think of you often.

Sunny - way to go on the loss! I am super excited for you!

All the other losers...again..proud each of you are here!:grouphug:

Hi Gang,

Thanks for the hugs. It's not just about Nick. Or the winter, although Kat, you are right on about that. It's also celebrating my mom's birthday while she goes through chemo for the fifth time, looking at that in the face. Not having a job and what that means, money wise. You know, these minor life things.

It's just hitting all at once. It's hard.

Kat, I might just be calling you sobbing - if you can't understand someone, it's me!

Yes, yes, this will pass. I know. Doesn't mean it doesn't suck.

So. Where's my fleece bra? huh??? :rotfl2:

If our money situation were a bit better I would be on a plane to come hug in person.

Honey, if a fleece bra will make you happy, I will send one! :goodvibes

Until then, Sylvia is still in my prayers and we will talk soon.

And remember when you and Kat were dancing down the streest in DHS? And rememer flirting with our waiter at Brown Derby drinking candy can martinis???

Liz, and waterfall Edward. :goodvibes

10,000 WW points  Yep. Sometimes you just have to do it, and get it out of your system! Glad you enjoyed them so much

Totally agree. Better for me to have something and work it into my plan, then to try to avoid it, not plan for it, yet eat it anyway. :confused3

Stacey! Glad you are on the mend :wave2:

The pad thai is a recipe Kat and I found and modified... Neither of us have tried it yet though... I will let you know...

I got my shoes!! They are these: http://store.nike.com/index.jsp?sitesrc=uslp&country=US&lang_locale=en_US#l=shop,pdp,ctr-inline/cid-1/pid-193020/pgid-199964... Apparently I have overpronation and flat feet... LOL... Also the store has 3 runs a week so when DH goes to days we will probably run with them... Good way to meet new people :) Also TOM came into town today... The one thing I hate about losing weight is my cycle is sooooo wonky... its like one month its 5 weeks and some its 6 weeks then goes back to 4 weeks... Grrr... Today is cheat day... Had a great salad at Ranch 1 and then came home and looked at the calories... LOL... 681! doesn't surprise as the dressing was some salsa ranch variation and it had chicken, corn, beans, and tortilla strips... but given I didn't have breakfast, I will be ok... Hope everyone is having a good day!
