In Search of my Body...Not The One I Ate.. #4 "Inspiring Others... 1 Tiara at a Time"

I'm here, raging headache and all. I didn't eat much at all today, so tracking was easy. Paying the price for it now though.

Joining the headache club for yesterday -- had a migraine at about 4 pm. It sucked. :sad1:

So remember that Tri I did the 5k for in Sept? Well, my friends and I raised $1670 for breast cancer research. How awesome is that???

Very awesome!!! :cutie:

And yes, I still plan to see my OB/GYN at some point this year. It was one of my New Year's Resolutions. I haven't been to that doc in over 6 years.

Okay, everybody else has already beaten you black and blue over this one, so I'll let it go. Just saying....

Today I am going to do 30 Day Shred since its my strength training day

What size weights are you using for that? I have 5 pounders and it about kills me every single time. :rotfl:

Better today. Still funky, but defunkifying :lmao:

Love it! ;)

Well, despite the (pain in the bum) headache, I managed to eat well at dinner and do my 30 day shred. So, still on track this week. Hope you're having a great day!!

I use 3 lbers....

All I have are 6 lb and up weights, because I use the free weight set that my husband already has (have I mentioned recently that I am cheap??). I really need to get some 3lb or something for 30 day shred. I haven't done it recently, though.

Lyz, I sent a txt with the mug picture. I don't have the cord for my phone today or I would post it here. Maybe when I get home.

Okay, I just got back from kickboxing. This is the first time since I started going that I was able to do EVERYTHING that she asked us to do. Including 40 pushups (5 with no knees!), and 4 sets (of 8) each of front and side double time kicks, and walking lunges with 5 lb weights in each hand... maybe I will get back in shape yet!! :yay:

Does anybody have any good recipies for collard greens? I love the way they make it at restaurants but just made a cup and it tasted like garbage. I actually added chow mein noodle to it to try and make a stir fry taste and not so mushy - still could only choke down 1/2 of a cup. I don't know - strained it but again - felt water filled.

K - thanks for the Pirate Booty info - will have to check it out.

I found Dell Monte fruit tubes in the fruit section that you put in the freezer and they show as only 1 point. Actually on the WW slider they are in the black in the "1" point section so I am not sure what that means exactly?:confused3

Hmm, I don't think it's crazy, anymore. Once you embrace it, it gets easier. It makes me happy. And you know, I get one chance.

Paula - you are "on". There is no other way to say it. I want to encourage you to pamper and coax that state of mind. You need to push thru any and every workout you don't want to do. Cause once it flitters away, it's so hard to get it to come back. (I want to be turned on.)

Well, I don't know. Not much. I am starting to feel the exercise Lyz come back into my life. That's a good thing. I am purposly not posting here about it. It's too much pressure to always be on track and if I'm not I'm not. I know you all are not judging me, but I feel bad when I'm not. So I don't post when I am. Make sense?

Lyz - Don't worry, I am pampering myself, but I am spending my money on more sessions with Jesse instead of some new stuff for my closet (although I do need to buy some jeans soon). The feeling I am getting from my training sessions is way better than any that I have gotten from clothing - sadly even the most awesome giraffe print shoes don't give me as much of a high as the results of my training is right now. Don't get me wrong, the workouts are hard and there are days where they downright suck and I don't want to do them, but the confidence they are giving me in all aspects of my life are worth it. I am totally feeding off of that drug now and I am happy with that. Of course, when I hit the next milestone, there will be a celebratory purchase (the giraffe print shoes were the last ones). I haven't figured out what that purchase is going to be yet, but it is definitely going to be something for my spring / summer wardrobe.

Now I want you to read this next part carefully.... promise?

As for you, my dear, post what you are comfortable. There is no pressure here to be on all the time, but please know that we want to be there to support you when you need it some extra help, celebrate with you when you are rockin your program and b!tch with you when you have had enough and need to b!tch about things. So use us when you need to and don't be afraid to use us even if you think you don't. I can't tell you how much the support of this board has contributed to getting me through my year of funk to where I am now. Love you girl...

Paula

Did you really read it carefully? If not, go back and read it again...

Kat - way to go on the workout...

Win or lose, you are so going to rock this tournament this weekend.

Kelly green. Was that on purpose.

 Missed that completely. Good catch, Lyz

Makes perfect sense. Do it on your own terms. For yourself. Whatever is right, whenever it's right; but for yourself. Not because anyone else wants it for you, or "expects" you to. :flower3:

:yay: Awesome!

Does anybody have any good recipies for collard greens?

Collard greens. Add that to my list of foods I've never had.

your food from yesterday looks great, Dawn. I've really seen some changes since you starting being accountable for it :thumbsup2

I personally don't like collard greens.. only way they are edible is drowned in butter and then they lose the healthy factor.

You aren't missing much... Wow I sound picky. HAH!

Ouch! You guys just beat the ever lovin' sh*t outta me!

FWIW, I have had a colonoscopy in the past couple of years as well as all sorts of internal checks, tests, and scans. We have family history of certain things, so I always get all of those tests run. I'm not a total idiot about this stuff. And YES, I realize I need a proper ob check and a proper physical. Feel free to continue to hound me about it throughout the year. But wait the bruises from this round heal, mkay? :rotfl2:

Liz--way to go on raising the bucks for b00bs! Awesome! Ok, I need the info on the 5k again. If you are in, and Kat is in...and now it sounds like Nancy might be in. Well, I have to do it, too, right? ;)

Lyz--what Paula said. I just love it when you post period. I don't care about what. And if you don't want to post your food and exercise, then don't.

Paula--YES to spending money on Jesse! Word. And sibs can be great that way. My brother got me a Coach wallet for Christmas. And he did it all by himself without even taking a female friend with him to help pick it out. And yes, this is the single one who lives in NY and gets free Disney passes. Just sayin.

So I swam today...and OMG, I rocked it! My pace was really so much better than I had anticipated. I did a half mile in 21 minutes. I am over the top happy with that. That alone would put me in the top 1/3 of the field. And I will get several more swims in before the tri, so I am hoping to improve that.

I was scared sh*tless to start, though. I went to the Y (ick), and I planned it so that I went when mostly seniors are there! :lmao: Bathing suit in public and all. I figure they can't see too well. :rotfl2: I started with a warm-up of a 200 IM, which was always my go-to warm-up. MISTAKE. I was dying and out of breath after just my warm-up! But then I settled in with a steady freestyle and ended up with a solid time.

Then, I practiced my transition to the bike. All I will say is that I am SO glad my transition times won't count. It was not pretty. I did 10 miles on the bike, but not for speed (hamstring, you know). Just easy. And then I transitioned to the run, but didn't actually run if that makes sense. I just wanted to practice the transition.

So I had to cancel my appointment today with my primary doc, but before you all go carnival ape crazy on me, I rescheduled it already. So there. :rotfl2:

Back to work for me.

Paula, you are SUCH an inspiration. Did you know that you are at least partly (if not wholy) responsible for my jump back on the wagon!!

We just got some hopefully good news at work. Still too new to tell, and not allowed to talk about it, but at least things might be looking up here. Keep your fingers crossed!!

Awesome! You are going to kick bummocks at Hockey - I know it! :cool1:

So for dinner I have just had Salmon which I did in Cajun spices and baked in the oven, with boiled potatoes, green beans and white sauce. Very yum!

Liz - Somehow I missed the post about how much you raised - fabulous!

Liz - can you copy me on this. I may be able to come down and join the fun as long as I can walk / wog the race. Remember - I don't run, but I can hoof it with the best of them...

Um gulp - no pressure there. Just kidding. If I can help anyone get back on the wagon then I am happy to help.

I have my fingers and toes crossed for you.

I am in filing hades today. We have no admin support staff anymore so all of the filing falls to me and I just hate it. I think I would rather have Erika show up at my house and dray my droopy bum running than file any longer (don't get any ideas there girl...).

My break is over - back to filing (yeah... :guilty: )

Hi everyone - hope everyone had a great Monday/Tuesday!

I aced my test in my class yesterday, so i'm really excited about that. :cool1:

Eating has been going pretty decently, everything has been tracked. I had a feeling that the vicodin was making me retain water (or it may have been the antibiotic, not sure). Either way, i've been off of it for a few days and i'm down 4.5 lbs from friday! Not going to update or make an official weigh in, but it was nice to see i'm not insane, i'm sure my actual loss for the week will be lower, but i was happy to see that i hadn't truly stayed level.

And the nice thing is, i actually feel really great today, it was a good day. Nothing particularly special happened, but i just feel good, so thats a plus :goodvibes

Made my dining ressies for our trip to disney in May, getting excited, i've never stayed at the Poly and i can't wait for a nice relaxing trip. While it's been going well, work and school have been killer and i'm ready to drop already!

Uck, on the negative, i had to schedule Oral Surgery, my wisdom teeth are a bit late to the party, they never bothered me, and for years, never moved, my dentist thought they'd be fine and just stay put.... no more, they are on the move again, and i have to get them ripped out of my head, none of them have broken through yet, so they have to go digging, i've never been put under full sedation before, so i'm admittedly very nervous :scared1:

Welcome Rod!!!! :flower3:

E - sorry for the disasters... i'm glad you were able to get some quality time running with your girls!

Liz - you are in my thoughts as usual! WW is going really well, it's helping me to be accountable, and i need all the help i can get!

Dawn - OMG Skyler is so precious!!!

Paula - so proud of you! you are rocking this weight loss, congrats! Sorry to hear about the benefits decrease, but hey, no pay cut, and no job loss, thats a lot to be thankful for in the current economy !

STEPH - OMG Mocha is so adorable, looks just like lucy did before she started getting her highlights!

Kat - crossing my fingers for your good news!!!

Um gulp - no pressure there. Just kidding. If I can help anyone get back on the wagon then I am happy to help.

Thanks!! And no pressure. ;)

I just realized that I have 4 games in 36 hours. I think I might take either Mon or Tues off to go die.

Liz, I call dibs on the bed (if there is one...)!! I said I was coming first! :rotfl:

Roddy - It's Roddy, right? Not Rod?

Yes, it is Roddy! :thumbsup2

Ok, I guess I'll tell a little about how I lost the weight this time around.

Basically, what I do to lose weight is portion control. I'll explain, maybe it won't be too boring.

When I started on my 'diet', and I really hate that word, I decided what I would do was to experiment for a few months and see what happened. I couldn't bear the thought of doing Atkins again. I get frustrated with calorie counting, which I may end up switching to since Kat has become the resident expert in it. So, I decided to go with portion control and from the start it worked for me. I figured out how much food I needed to get through the day and I stuck with that. I eat what amounts to about one large meal a day. Some days, I go all day without eating until the evening meal. Some days, I'll eat the amount of food in a large meal but spread it out over the whole day. That works great for me and that's how I've eaten, with variations, over the past three years. I lost the weight somewhat slowly. The slower I lose weight, the better my body adjusts to it. I've found that the faster I lose weight the faster I gain it back. I don't workout even though that is something I probably need to do, but I do walk during the spring, summer and fall.

Now initially, the weight did come off pretty fast. But as I lost weight and got thinner and thinner the weight loss slowed dramatically and stabilized. This worked fine for about a year and a half. My weight loss had all but stopped and I was at about 185lbs, which I was ok with, then an element was thrown into the mix. I found out in early December of 2007 that I had Rheumatoid Arthritis. I hate having to take medicine of any kind and want to avoid prescription medication if I can. So, working with my GP, she and I decided I should try adjusting my diet a little bit to see if that helped with the RA. My diet changed from eating basically whatever I wanted to eating mainly raw veggies like cabbage, celery, lettuce, onions, etc. I also limited my intake of pork and beef and began eating more chicken and fish. Even though I hate taking medicine my GP decided I should take some supplements like a multi-vitamin, glucosamine, fish oil. I then lost another 15lbs relatively quickly (relatively quickly = 2 months) and I've been around there since. I've not lost any weight since before the holidays, for obvious reasons, even though I'm back eating as normal. But, as always, I'm sure when it warms up and I begin my evening power walks again, I'll begin losing weight and may have to adjust my diet a bit.

Really, I can't say enough about vegetables. Especially raw vegetables. I think they should be the focus of every 'diet' if you want to use that word. They fill you up so you don't feel hungry, they're full of fiber (there is no substitute for a clean and healthy digestive tract and colon) and full of vitamins and nutrients. I'm just a huge fan of them and I've had to learn to eat them and find ways to make them more exciting. I also love spices like red pepper, cumin, paprika, chili powder, so on and so forth. Spices add a negligible amount of calories and can make boring vegetables a bit more appealing. Garlic is awesome too. I like stir frying a few onions and celery, throw a clove or two of fresh garlic and the whole dynamic of the dish changes for me.

Ok, enough boring story for today. Maybe this will bring everyone up to speed on my journey! :surfweb:

Hey Girls and Guy!!

Job interview was fantastic. So much better than I thought. It pays more than I thought, and they were interviewing me for a position in a lab where I would be all kinds of wicked cool tests, like chromosomal stuff, genetic testing, DNA stuff. OMG. So cool to a lab rat like me. They seemed like they might be flexible about hours, so I might be able to work evenings. They have an onsite daycare if I ended up working a day shift, that is highly rated and is very reasonably priced. I told them I would consider any shift, but an evening one would be preferable. And they will be moving to a brand new lab over the summer. They are interviewing some internal candidates, so that may be some competition, since they already work there. It will be at least a week before I hear something.

Challenge stuff:

Exercise-Core done. 1/2 for the week
Tracking-Tracked today, about 1300 calories 1/3 for the week
Booze-None since Superbowl. And I am very very sad about that.

My foot feels much better today, so I will be back at C25K tomorrow. Probably a double session.

Stacey:great job on your exam! So sorry to hear abut your wisdom teeth. I had all 4 of mine removed and went completely under. That part freaked me out more than anything. But it was really okay. Kind of surreal. Like I remember them asking me to count backwards from 100, I got to 95 and I was gone and then it was like 1 second had passed and I was waking up and DH was there. I won't share my whole story with you as I had an absolutely hideous recovery (unless you really want to know), pretty much any complications that can go wrong with an extraction, went wrong with mine. But I am the minority.

Kat: Glad to hear about the potential good news at work! :goodvibes

Erika: Sounds like your swim went well! Cool! I am looking to get Delena started in swim lessons soon. I'd love to do a tri someday, but I think I'd need at least 6 months of lessons. I mean, I can swim, but would definitely need some coaching.

I hope everyone is having a good evening!

Enjoy your day. You totally deserve it. :flower3:

Come over here so I can beat you about the head :badpc: What do you mean you haven't been to the ob/gyn in 6 years. OMG woman. Don't make me call the Dr. and make the appointment for you.

<sheesh>

Thanks Nancy!

I will help you gang up on E!

Liz--My NJ roots..My parents were born there, grew up there, and I was born there and lived there until I was 10. Which is when we moved to VT. So, my parents when they were dating/first married saw Bruce play in little clubs before he got to be really famous. They love him. They probably go to 3-4 concerts every year. The first music I remember is Bruce because we listened to it all the time. So his music is really special to me. Especially the older stuff.

Have fun on the coach shopping trip! So fun. :goodvibes

Amiee--Sadly we never found the choco. bacon. DH was even willing to try it. But we did see some other totally ridiculous food, and I will post pics later.

I SO need to go to my yearly womans appointment. I did make my 6 week post partum in August 07, but I have not been since.

I love guitar hero. The World Tour Version (which I think is the newesy) that we got, has drums and a mike that you can get for it like rock band. I was sold on this version because of the songs. Born to Run. Misery Business. Everlong. So many good songs.

I'll check back in later...

Amy

Bummer on the bacon, can't wait to see the other pics though.

Well, I wanted to stick around and say hi to everybody, but I am getting my car worked on. :cool1:

I so wish I could post during the day at work. lol I'm thinking I need some mid-day support. :)
