In-N-Out Burger

In N Out is the BEST!! What I like also is that they pay their employees good wages. You start out at $10 an hour there! The food is fresh, and their prices are cheap compared to other places like McDonalds.

DH and I were talking on our recent trip to S CA. He said In and Out will never go any farther than it does because they buy all their beef from a certain ranch in California (maybe Harris Ranch, I'm not sure), and since it needs to be FRESH beef, not frozen, it can't be trucked too far. Made sense to me, but stinky for us Oregonians. So close, yet so far away.
When DH and I moved to Reno from S. Cal the one thing we missed was the In-N-Out that used to be around the corner. My boss at the time was also from S. Cal and whenever one of us went "over the hill" which is what we refer to when we leave Reno and drive over the mountains to Sacramento, we would bring each other ketchup packs! We used to drive 120 miles to Auburn, CA just to get an In-N-Out burger or if going over the hill for any reason, In-N-Out in Auburn was the place to see. On the weekends you could count on a parking lot full of Nevada license plates, the majority owned by transplanted Californians.

We heard rumors for years that they were going to bring the business to Reno, but the problem was the meat and our wonderful winters that can close the main highways "over the hill" for days at a time. Local legend was as follows: Since In-N-Out does not ever freeze their meat they had a quandary and this quandary took years to resolve. Finally, they struck some kind of deal with I think SouthWest airlines, that in the event of the roads closed due to weather, that they would fly in the meat! And so after waiting about 10 years, we finally got an In-N-Out Burger, we now have 2 and the lines are always around the block.

In-N-Out's founding Mother just passed away last week, it was on the news here. I personally don't think they will ever franchise, they have always been family owned, all management used too have to start at the cashier level and works their way up. They also pay them a decent wage and have very high customer service standards.

We love In-N-Out, the kicker is the meat that is fresh, not frozen, pre-flavored or pre-cooked. You can actually see and taste the lettuce, tomato etc. because they use a decent amount of it, the bun fits the meat and the fat to meat content makes for a very juicy but not greasy burger, yummmm - I think I need to run into town for lunch.

:lmao: This made me laugh. We used to live in SoCal, but now live in Virginia. Our good friends from SoCal now live in New Jersey. When either of us visit an In N Out while out West for whatever, we tease each other about it. For example, our friend went to SoCal for business. We received an envelope in the mail with no return address, no note of any kind. The envelope contained only an In N Out placemat. :rotfl: We instantly knew Frank had been to SoCal!

We did a similar thing to him. We went to In N Out and took pictures of each other biting into our Double-Doubles, but the pics went only nose-high. There were no identifying factors in the pics. Just hands hold burgers and teeth biting down. We mailed them to him anonymously. :rotfl2:

In-N-Out is the ONLY thing we miss from living in Nevada.

WE ARE BIIIIIG FANS!!! :thumbsup2

Oh, that is good.......or bad..........depending on how you look at it - Very funny none the less! :lmao:

I'm leaving in two days for California. When I moved 5 years ago the nearest In n Out was still really far away. I used to go to the one in Gilroy when I went to the outlets.

This thread made me look up the locations - there's one not too far from the SF airport - I may have to stop there on my way back from the airport. I'll be getting in too late to have dinner with friends so that would be a great alternative to regular fast food.
