In Every Run That Must Be Done; There is an Element of Fun (comments welcome)

Post-Princess: Days 2-4

Tuesday was my last day in the parks, and I did Magic Kingdom in the morning, and Epcot in the afternoon. G+ was okay-ish—at 7am, I got Jungle Cruise for 11:30, and a $LL for Remy (but it did the time switch during my purchase and I ended up with 6pm, which was a bit later than I wanted). At 11, I grabbed a Magic Carpets for 12:20, which let me get a slight jump on the next Epcot wave, and when I tapped into the Carpets, I got a 5:20 Soarin’. Once I got to Epcot, I got a few unnecessary LLs, just because I could, and then I decided to wait standby on Frozen, which took every minute of the posted 85 minute wait because they let so many LL people through at a time. I didn’t enjoy standing there for so long, but I had a lot of time to kill before my Soarin’ LL, and this filled it nicely.

I did spend some time getting more medal pics, but none of them turned out as well at the HS pics, IMO.

Wednesday was all traveling, I got on the bus to the airport at 8:15 (Sunshine Flyer was nice and on time) and then flew from MCO to Chicago Midway, hung out there for a few hours, and then flew from Midway back to Minneapolis. I did some yoga before I went to bed to close my rings. Thursday was back to work, and I was absolutely exhausted. I could barely stay awake. And I was starving, it was very strange. I was supposed to have a short 30 minute run, but I was way too tired to even consider it, so I just did some stretching to close the rings.

On Friday, my company is giving us an employee appreciation day and letting us leave 2 hours early, so I’m going to go to the Mall of America and get a new pair of running shoes. I think it’s time to demote my light blue NB shoes from running shoes to walking shoes—they have the most miles of all my shoes, and my feet weren’t overly happy with them during the half. My ASICS Gel Venture 7s are my current favorite shoes, so I’m going to check out the 8s. My company also has a rewards system where people give me bonus points for doing my job (which is silly, but I’m not going to say no to free money!) and one of the things I can use points on is Famous Footwear gift cards, so FREE SHOES!!

I like your castle photo here, and the Epcot at night photo, too! I think you got just a few photos on your trip. :) They will be lot of fun to look at later.

I got SO MANY PHOTOS! I’m squeezing every penny out of the $99 photo add-on to my AP. Once I had all my medals, if I saw a PhotoPass person, I got in line (except on Main Street, I skipped about half of them, since they’re only like 15 feet apart)

Post-Princess: Day 5

Best shopping day ever! I got 2 pairs of running shoes for a grand total of $20 out of pocket! I had the $100 gift card from my work rewards, and then it turned out we had $20 in Famous Footwear rewards, so… 🥳🥳

I got another pair of the Venture 7s, and a pair of the Venture 8s. Pretty shoes are sure to make me faster, right?? 😁

I tested out the 8s on the treadmill when I got home, and I think they’re going to be good, I just need to get the laces adjusted properly in all the right spots.

Post-Princess: Day 6

Today was the last day of my Princess Training Schedule. Starting tomorrow, I think the daily titles will just be a countdown to the next in-person race, whatever it might be.

In the past 25 weeks, I did 70h 28m 31s of running, totaling 300.67 miles, at an average pace of 14m 3s. I also did 13h 24m 58s on the stationary bike, totaling 211.51 miles, at an average pace of 3m 48s. In the process, I lost about 10 pounds.

Today, I should’ve gone for a run outside before the rain, ice, and snow started and ruined the roads, but I wanted to try out my new shoes again, and I didn’t want to do that outside. So I didn’t end up running on the treadmill until way late and I shouldn’t do that. I tried the Venture 8s again, and they just don’t feel right. I had gone half a size up because the toe felt weird in the store, but I think that’s making the rest of the shoe hit me weird. I only did a quarter mile before I decided that they just weren’t going to work, so I stopped, and switched to my new Venture 7s, and they felt better, just new. I’ll return the Venture 8s and try the them in my usual size again and see if they feel any better. Or I’ll try other shoes.

25 Days Until: Springtime Surprise

I found a nice countdown app to do the math for me on how many days until my upcoming races. I even get to customize each one with an emoji and color 😊

Today I got to do about 20 minutes of shoveling the patio, and it was hard work because it rained before it snowed and those 4 inches were HEAVY. I also ordered some stuff for Springtime Surprise outfits.

Today being the first day of the new workout schedule, I did 45 minutes on the stationary bike, instead of the 30 I used to do, for a total of 11.86 miles. Boy, I really hope my butt toughens up after a few weeks of longer rides, because this was hard.

Pretty! What is the app?
Boy, I really hope my butt toughens up after a few weeks of longer rides, because this was hard.
It will, but I also recommend padded bike shorts (“chamois”). These are far better than any other alternative (e.g., padded seat cushions are not good for you and will make it worse over time). Pro tip: go commando with chamois! And if you ride a long time, maybe try chamois butt’r to avoid chafing. You can apply it directly to the pad in the shorts or to your skin.
my qualifications: I rode a bike coast to coast without getting a single saddle sore.

The app is Countdown on iOS.

I’ll look into padded shorts, thanks!

That's a lot of races! Are any of them virtual?
Nope. I just incorporate races into my training schedule and don’t really work any harder in them than I would in a training run. I do have a couple virtual races in the schedule, but I’m not using them in the countdowns.

24 Days Until: Springtime Surprise

I got up a little early and started work at 7:30 so I could take an hour for lunch and still get off at my normal time of 4:30. I wanted to go see The Batman, and there was a 5pm show at the local theatre, but I also needed to get my half hour run in, and the blasted movie is 3 hours long, so I needed to do the run during the day. Everything worked out great, and I prefer running during the day anyway.

I think I’ll be able to do my Tuesday and Thursday runs outside in the neighborhood. The roads looked shockingly clear after the ice and snow over the weekend.

The run was good, and I started watching Into The Woods, which is also good.

23 Days Until: Springtime Surprise

I got to run outside!! Other than the Princess races, I haven’t run outside since February 5th 😱😱

I’ve decided that Tuesdays will be my day to try new things on my runs, and today I tried changing my run/walk interval from 30/30 to 60/30. It was challenging, but doable, at least for a half hour run. I might try it again next week and see if I can do 45 minutes.

22 Days Until: Springtime Surprise

2 rounds of my mid-level dumbbell workout tonight. I really need to keep up with this, I couldn’t even do one full round with the 5lb dumbbells, I had to switch to the 3lb ones.

My boss has asked me to apply for a different position within our company—still under his purview, but doing a different job. It sounds like something I can do, and like I should still be able to do a lot of the things I’m doing now. I submitted my application, and I’ll probably have a call with a recruiter tomorrow or Friday, and then probably an interview with my boss (which seems slightly silly, since I’ve worked for him since 2016, but I get that certain boxes need to be checked to keep things legit).

21 Days Until: Springtime Surprise

I got to run outside again today. It wasn’t quite as nice as it was on Tuesday, but still better than running on a treadmill. I went back to my usual 30/30 intervals for an easier run.

After I got home, we had some visitors in the backyard. Apparently there were 9 in total!

20 Days Until: Springtime Surprise

It was my birthday today! 🥳🥳

It was actually sort of boring all day. I had to work, and in the late afternoon, I had a phone interview for the new position I applied for. It was only the dumb part of interviews though—“Why are you seeking a new position?” “Tell me about a time you had to multitask…” 🙄🙄 and the girl from the outside company who does these interviews was almost 15 minutes late in calling me!

Anyway, after work, my grandparents took me out to dinner, and then we came home and watched The Adam Project on Netflix (👍👍, highly recommended) and then we had cupcakes!

After that, I did one round of 30 second pose yoga to close my rings.

19 Days Until: Springtime Surprise

I ran a virtual 5K today, and since this run wasn’t any longer than any of my weekday runs, I decided to really make an effort. I switched my intervals to 40/30 (45 not being an option on my app 😡) and tried to really run. My effort was rewarded, I got a new fastest mile and a new fastest 5K.
