In case cold temps invade Disney in the winter months

I was there in early January one year and the CMs were puring rock salt around in Splash Mountain where you get in and out of the logs. The water that was splashed up was freezing solid and people were slipping and falling. This was during an e-night. It was the coldest I have ever been in my life - and I have been skiing in the Catskills. But it was so worth it to have the park almost literally to ourselves. I think it was just us and one other crazy family. Seriously. Every time we go in December or January I pack long undies, gloves, scarfts, etc. - just in case. Some years we need them, and some we don't. This year I might throw in a few of the hand warmers, too.

I have no tolerance for cold at all, but since we will only have four days at WDW and this might be the only time we ever get to go I think I will have to take advantage of every minute! I will not, however, wear socks on my hands or wrap myself in my bathrobe! (Were those something folks brought with them or were they hotel issue? Or did they BUY them at WDW?) That is too funny. I did go purchase more luggage today, so I will pack every piece of clothing I possibly can without exceeding the weight limit for the plane.

You wouldn't catch me on a water ride if the water was freezing, but I am not all that adventurous to begin with!

TJMaxx and Marshall's are the cheapest places to get silk longies, but they don't carry them for men. The best prices DH has found have been at www.cabelas.com. They actually have them in several different weights, but the lightest is best for cold snaps in Florida. Once you own them, you won't just use them at WDW; you'll find that they are VERY useful. Silks don't bunch and are comfortable under dress clothing.

Silk longies are very thin and fold very small; Cuddleduds won't come close in terms of being compact. I've put my silk longies in my pants pocket if it got too hot to wear them. Silk glove liners are great, too.

I keep telling DH about the long johns and he says if it is so cold that HE needs long johns then I have no business being outside. He does go hunting and I pointed out that they would be useful, but so far he's not interested. We'll see! I can tell you now that I won't be the cold one!

My DH used to think that silk was a girlie thing, but then I bought him some silk sleep pants, and he has become a total convert. He wears them around the house so often that I've had to get him several prs.

Silk breathes like no other fabric, so silk longies are lightyears more comfortable than the conventional cotton-blend ones. Whole different world.

Thanks for the link!

My boss and I were just talking about this the other day. It doesn't MATTER what the weather was last year or any other year. It won't matter (to me) what the weather is until we are walking into Epcot on January 12, 2005. I know from Dallas weather that last year may not be anything even close to next year. My DS is going to be 9. The year he was born we had an ice storm the day after he came home from the hospital. We haven't had a January like that since. On Valentine's day this year it snowed! I have lived here since 1989, and there was never snow on Valentine's day before!

Weather patterns are so bizarre (like all the hurricanes!) that I would rather go get all the cold weather gear on the market and not need it. If I end up not wearing it I can take it back. If DH wants to take a chance on the "historical" weather that's up to him!

I am REALLY hoping that it will be nice weather while we are there - moderate temps and no rain. But I would rather overpack and be prepared for any contingency. DH made a snide comment about being Mary Poppins with her carpet bag but I will ignore that...:rolleyes1
