In 2031, the NFL will NO LONGER be in Missouri.

And the fiscal health would be even better if they didn't give the Hunt family one cent. The Hunt family doesn't need the money.
I don't disagree. But it's a lot more complicated than your above statement and hard to discuss here given politics...a democrat governor with a republican legislation.

They could eliminate the congestion by charging variable tolls in the area.
I-70 is tolled until just before you reach the Legends. Tolls will not eliminate the congestion. You have to actually look at the Legends area, putting a toll on I-70 into the Legends and putting a toll on 435 highway won't do anything to the actual area's roads because the issue is when you get to the area, State Ave, Village Park West, Parallel Parkway, etc. And the streets are only 2 sometimes 3 lanes.

I'm pretty happy about it personally. Love the chiefs and The new stadium would be around 10 minutes from me so I may have to get season tickets once they move. Too many fans were saying that they were "Missouri's Team" even though both states had always rooted for them as their home team. (and probably more of KS for a while since MO used to have the Rams too...)

And I am just outside of Wyandotte/Johnson counties so if something goes wrong it hopefully wouldn't affect me as much tax wise.🤣 I get to live outside of the city with some land/privacy and still be near some nice things to do.

I hope they use it for a lot of fun stuff in the offseason too, cirque shows, concerts, etc. that they can't easily do at Sandstone or in the Soccer stadium
It can still affect you in the end, yes the STAR Bond districts are in Wyandotte and Johnson County but the only "promise" (because it wasn't really a promise) was that the deal was had without increasing sales tax at the state level for it. It does not speak towards future impacts. An expansion of the district is also legally allowed. Johnson County is more affected here as the Star Bond district intentionally expands (at least according to the maps) well beyond the stadium and beyond where the headquarters and practice field will be, that is because that is where the wealth is.

Kemper used to be used for a lot of the stuff you mentioned, many fond memories back in the day of that.

If this becomes true… I would expect Wreck-It Ralph to bulldoze the venue. It’s likely not good in the eyes of county government to have an empty and useless eyesore in the winter…

I'm talking about the new, domed, modern venue close to me on the KS side, not the old one on the Missouri side.

Missourians can do whatever they want with that after the move. Though they should probably try to use it for something. If they can make money using it at all it's better than paying 50 something million just to bulldoze it unless they have big plans for the area afterwards.

I know things can change and that they promised no increase in tax at the state level. We'll see if they can hold true to that.

I only meant that if they have to change something and actually increase some taxes, I would hope it would be specifically in Wyandotte/Johnson counties somehow and would tax the areas that the facilities are actually located, rather than expand the extra taxes to the entire state or more surrounding counties like mine

I've read some interesting discussions about using Arrowhead (post move) as an event and concert venue. I'm glad other options beyond bulldozer are being considered.

It shouldn't be complicated. All politicians right or left want to get elected. I would expect telling billionaires they aren't getting one cent of taxpayer funding should be very popular no matter your political leanings.

That's not what I meant. If you're actually interested in the topic unfortunately you'll have to look up the history of the state as here doesn't allow for discussion. Dating back to Brownback to current to understand it all. From trickle down economics to flat tax rates from grocery taxes to property taxes. You're speaking about an ideological ideal vs I'm speaking about it as how it's been (hence my complicated comment)

My understanding is that the two scenarios are nothing alike. The Bears want to build a privately funded stadium and complex. What they asked of Crook County were getting the utilities and infrastructure. The Chiefs are having the entire thing built with government money and then handed to them.

I'm assuming this is in Gary somewhere, since they're talking about 20 minutes to Downtown. Where exactly? When I heard about this one of the other places talked about was the ISP site in Michigan City. Already has train service from ChicagTheo, just of I-94 and on the lake.
The land is by Hammond, Ind, just south of Wolf Lake (the Lake actually is in both Illinois and Indiana). The Bears owners are the McCaskey's, who are not independenty wealthy. They are very politically naive, which is why they hired a politically connected Kevin Warren as team president--he was the driving force that resulted in the Minnesota Vikings getting their domed stadium. McCaskey's are well known for their support of the Democratic party and consider it their responsibility to pay their fair share of taxes, so of course the predominantly Democratic run city and state are trying to take advantage of them. The key for getting Government help should be a joint ownership of the stadium. It makes no economic sense to build a 4 billion dollar stadium for just 10 football dates, but add in renting the stadium for some 300 days a year for concerts, conventions, WWE matches, etc now it becomes a money making entity. The problem is to get both politicians and owners to work together which unfortunately rarely happens.

How is requiring sports owners to pay for their own stadiums "taking advantage of them"?
You constantly jump in without knowing the facts. The McCaskeys have stated they will pay for 100% of the construction of the stadium, period! The politicians are trying to kick the can down the road. Requested is infra structure work, which they do for any new company offering to move to Illinois, and for tax relief for 10 years (which could be negotiated down) to give them time to build the stadium and surrounding area (there is a total of 325 acres that is to be developed) and actually start receiving an income stream to pay for the anticipated massive taxes that will be assessed. Why kick the can, in an effort for time to run out so the ownership will be forced to re up their lease at the current venue. All those who report on sports finances in the main stream media, state the Bears have the worst lease in all of US sports teams. Remember I stated in a post above the McCaskey's are very politically naive.

Landing (or keeping) a sports team can bring good will regardless of the cost. I look at how Vegas landed several teams as well as Sacramento keeping their NBA team.

I would rephrase that to say Chicago politicians were savvy enough to get the best deal for taxpayers.
This I can agree with, accept so much so they are now forcing them to move. To have a healthy relationship both sides should be treated fairly. Once Kevin Warren was hired, the business side of running a multi billion dollar operation was improved greatly. Warren is being credited with showing the McCaskeys just how poorly they have been treated over the years. Listen, I could go on for paragraphs on how poorly they have been treated, but it would be boring and not many would really care. However, the conflict of the Chicago Park District (technically the owners of the current stadium) and the Bears can be easily googled and researched on line if anyone is interested.

It is just business. You should always squeeze the other side as much as possible. As Gordon Gekko said "Greed is Good".

That is how the Hunt Family operates. They squeezed the Sliver Market. These people don't operate ethically.

Comparing the Hunts with the McCaskeys is laughable. The Hunts were billionaires before they ever obtained the Chiefs. The McCaskeys only asset is the Bears, no other wealth. The only real truth in this is the McCaskeys should sell the Bears to a Billionaire who can act more like the Hunts (which will not happen since they are grandchildren of the founder of the NFL and owner of the Bears- one George Halas).

Why can't they just keep playing at Soldier Field?

This is a pretty good write up of the issues. One thing not mentioned in the Parking bit is that none of it is controlled by the team. It doesn't take many cars at $50 each to make a huge difference in the bottom line. The third largest city in the country shouldn't have the smallest stadium. Green Bay is about 5% the size of Chicago and has a stadium that has 33% more capacity and 3,000 parking spaces on site that are operated by the team.

Why would anyone drive to the games? If you drink you shouldn't be driving. They could run Metra express trains directly to the games if they upgrade the track infrastructure and connect it into other lines.

Not sure why that author was whining about the walk from the Roosevelt Road station. We always take the red line when going to the Shedd or Field Museum.

Something rarely talked about but was the last straw. Some four years ago the Bears asked to put a sports book in the bowls of Soldier Field. This would be a win win as the revenue would be shared by the Bears and the Park District. With no explanation the Park District (after waiting a full year to respond) said no--leaving millions of revenue on the table. I have attended many Bears games and as a person now in my 70's, it is just a horrible venue to get around or watch a game. Even when I am offered tickets, I now decline to watch in the comfort of my home. My kids refer to the stadium as a big toilet bowl, as when you approach the stadium from the south that is exactly what it looks like.
