Improper Magic Band installation on kids

As I wander around the parks I have noticed about 90% of the kids wearing the Magic Bands do not have them installed properly. The MB consists of two separate parts, the colored part and the black border. Most adults use the band with both parts attached like they are suppose to be worn. But for kids and small adults the black part should be removed. It is perforated and easy to remove the black part. Once it is removed the band is much smaller and fits on smaller wrists much better. I see kids at WDW with their MB wrapped almost two complete wraps and it is harder to attach and not as comfortable as it should be.

Many parents likely don't know how to "shorten" them.

But, I can also think of a number of reasons that they are worn unshortened intentionally.

The bands are easy to remove.
They just unsnap.

Oh, I didn't realize they came apart for kids. July will be our first trip with Magicbands, and I was wondering how well they fit on small wrists. Thanks for that tip!

Do they tend to stay on, and not unsnap or catch on things easily? I was looking at buying Bitbelts to help prevent them from coming off. Does anyone have experience with something like the Bitbelt?

You can purchase a slider/cover for the MB and he wouldn't be able to unsnap it.
You can find the covers on eBay and etsy as well as in the parks.

I'm tempted to try the short version on my wrist, now that we're back from our weekend trip. Can it be put back together if short is too short? It looks like a close call for me. DD is at school or I'd check her sizing out, too.

ETA: Supermom, we had no problem at all with them coming off or loose. They stay together amazingly well. Some good engineering went into those bands.

Unfortunately, no. Once you remove the grey part, you cannot put it back on.

I didn't keep the part that snaps off but some have reported it can be snapped back on. Not sure.

It's 7.5 inches in length after you snap off the outer portion. When snapped on the last two snap points, it still "dangles" on my 5.5 inch wrist.

Swapping for FP is one reason. I can't think of others.

Sme people think the gray part looks better. Once you take it off, the edge looks a little raggedy. Also, kids might want to keep their bands whole so theirs look just like mom, dad, other sibling, etc.

I shortened mine and I'm 26 & have super small wrists. The gray part cannot be put back on as a PP said, but it was way more comfortable with it shorter. If I didn't take off the gray part it would've ended up curling around my wrist a ton of times. Even shortened, it never once came loose or even close to unsnapping.

We had no idea until after we got home from our last trip you could shorten them. We were one of those people wrapping it around our sons wrist multiple times!

And on the band itself.

DH was reading the fine print on the back and asked what (iir) 'mas pequeno' (nya) meant, and I said 'much smaller'. For whatever reason he was drawn to the Spanish words first.

I don't think they can actually be installed [sic] incorrectly. It's a personal preference how to wear them. I considered cutting off either band so I could stick it in my pocket easier.

It seems the little pokey things that go through the holes would stick out more since the holes themselves would be shorter. Did they seem bothersome at all?

It didn't bother me. I wore the MB below my wristwatch and didn't even notice it. Didn't bother me or my DD when we did the 5K during the Princess weekend.

**you can shorten one of your family's bands to see how it feels. On your next trip, you'll be receiving another set of MBs.

My 2 year old wore one for our entire trip. He never took it off. Just placed it on and made no big deal of it for him and he never touched it. He was just excited to have the same as his brother and sister.

And on the band itself.

I just put on reading glasses to see that small print (on the band, I think the box was thrown out.) Even then I had to search and squint to find it!
But by George, you're right!

Now, how many parents are going to notice that as they strap the bands on their little ones?

(I'm sure it's bigger on the boxes, though.)

Anyhow, I am happy for this thread. I'll know better next time!
