I have to say, I'm really disappointed that me being a wonderful person is tied for last with dried pressed bean curd biscuit substitute. My self esteem is taking a blow.:sad2:

I voted that you are a wonderful person! I think you are just as popular as biscuits! :thumbsup2

Are biscuits with sausage gravy a Southern thing? I've never heard of it.
We have toasted bagels with butter and jelly or cream cheese.

Yep, definitely a huge southern thing. You need to try it sometime! So good. :cloud9:

I voted none and op is wonderful.

Thanks for the early morning giggle.

Whew, thank you! I knew I was wonderful, but I really needed validation from internet strangers to cement it for me. I'd hate to be less popular than biscuits especially biscuit substitute.

I can't vote because I love breakfast but I HATE biscuits!!! :lmao: I grew up with Southern parents in the North who made them weekly. I HATED them...ugh....

Then I come to the South and they're on EVERYONE'S menu. My son was born and raised here and LOVES them. Me? I'm a bagel/english muffin girl! :thumbsup2

And that nasty gravy... looks like VOMIT!! :scared:

I'm in and from the South, from a family who has been in the South since before the Revolution. The only God Approved form of biscuit is buttermilk. ;)

I prefer buttermilk biscuits over flaky. And I can do sausage gravy or butter and grape jelly or butter and apple butter.
I will also do English muffins, toast or bagels. I also do breakfast at any time of the day.
Unless it's the weekend or I'm not working, I don't have time for a big breakfast in the morning.

Oh no!:sick: I'm really sorry, but that does not look appetizing. BUT, the OP is still a wonderful person! ;)

Sausage gravy is good, hamburger gravy is better, blackberry jam sounds great although raspberry (w/seeds) would be better but the best biscuit topping of them all (IMHO) is real melted butter and honey that just drips off!

IMHO too! :thumbsup2

It's taken 20 years for me to feel like I can make a decent biscuit and since I can't use baking powder (allergic to the corn starch) they can be a challenge. I substitute with equal parts baking soda and cream of tarter - any other suggestions to replace for lighter and fluffier results?

Not a biscuit fan at all -- no matter the meal. Give me a bagel for breakfast, and I am happy as can be.
