Oh, puh-leeeze. You don't expect people to actually DO that, do you?? :confused3 :confused3 :confused3

BTW, nice post.

Well, I think that people need to remain calm...especially those of us who are sitting in lovely air conditioned homes. I voted for Bush, but I'm not always 100% thrilled with his policies. However, I do believe that he'll get the job done.

Is it awful that there are people who have died unnecessarily at the superdome, convention center and on the lawless streets of New Orleans. Absolutely...it's a crime. But to my knowledge, this is the first time that a US city has been put out of business....overnight. Shut down.

I think perhaps the Feds were focused on plucking desperate people off of their roofs and thought that the local goverment could handle the shelters where *they* sent their own residents. I'm sure that there was a lot of action the second that the convention center footage hit the white house today...

Impeach the President...? Please....he'll get this job done. Does anyone seriously think Kerry would have done a better job? Seriously? Can anyone honestly say that. If so, you're deluded. That guy didn't make a decision unless he had poll results in his hands (and approval from Teresa). Give me a break.

They need to fly Guiliani down there....

We are letting old people, sick people, poor people, and babies die like dogs. As far as I'm concerned, there is no debate. People that couldn't just jump in their minivan and drive to the Ramada in Houston.

I'm thorougly disgusted with anyone who makes excuses for him.

The local government should have used their city and school buses to bus them out.

Well, people shooting at people haven't kept us out of Iraq. THEY AREN'T TRYING HARD ENOUGH!!!!!!!!

ok, you get in a helicopter and land while ppl are shooting at you while you try and help them.

I always wondered how far people would go to defend Bush. This is lower than I thought anyone would ever go. I'm going to bed.

They could have had help sooner if they communicated it.

Are you kidding??? Everyone who was paying attention knew what would happen with stronger than a category 3 storm.

You're acting like everyone down there is doing that. So you are willing to abandon the rest of the people????

I repeat, they don't let a little gunfire keep them out of Iraq.

Oh, I think I'd be crying too. No help coming from anywhere. Death all around me.

This is going to sound crass but

It is their job to deal with this - it is not the time for them to be acting like this - they need to stand up and take control

if they can't handle this sort of pressure without the emotion taking over they have NO business being in politics

And I always wondered how far people would go to bash him.

I agree! But this is the United States of America, and this is no excuse for our government sitting idly by while they crash and burn.

On this much, we agree -- though probably not applying it to the same things

It takes 72 hours for the feds to mobilize. Period. No matter who's in charge.

This is what we were told at a disaster planning conference only last month. (when Katrina was a mere tropical depression out in the Atlantic). We were told federal help would come, but for the first three days we would be on our own, if any disaster, either natural or terrorist, were to occur. It takes them that long to get organized and mobilize. It was rather frightening to contemplate then, when it was a hypothetical tabletop drill. It's absolutely horrifying to watch now in real life.

I don't think people understand how preparing for a hurricane works. THe state and local governments communicate to other state and local goverments and national guards and so on. Then they arrange a staging ground with people ready to go in after the hurricane. With what I am seeing on TV, the state and local governement did not arrange a staging ground. With not staging grounds, N.O didn't have the resources to help their people.

The Federal Goverment is now sending more help and things are getting under control. I think we are doing a wonderful job with a huge city. I

Agreed! And so what was their plan, the Mayor and the Governor?

That they'd just wring their hands until the feds got there?

think about it, if one person is shooting at you and could hit you even if there is 1,000 other people there, would you still get down on the ground and be killed?

iraq is totally different matter, and dont pull that card, you and i both know that that is not a valid remark.

When Ivan was coming they told us three days for supplies. When Dennis was coming our way they said make it 7 days of supplies because you just never know.

In all honesty, this is ridiculous. It accomplishes nothing, but if you really want to get into it...look to the local and state goverment.

The local and state government needs to be removed or replaced ....and now. The Governor of LA is positively lost. She is not the person for this job. The mayor, he is just a nightmare.

The local government should have been prepared to respond immediately. And they weren't. The Governor has the ability to call up the National Guard. She could have had thousands of troops in place....she didn't.

You all want to blame the president for everything. The Federal goverment is saving thousands of people. The state of Louisiana and the Mayor of NO are saving....none. The mayor is actually making things worse, much worse. He's making it very clear that he's not in control of anything.

While I understand that some of the footage today is incredibly upsetting, we have to keep this thing in perspective. This is a catastrophe that is unprecedented in our nation. We have two disasters that have happened simultaneously. A horrific blow to the gulf coast, and a city that is literally underwater. This is off the scale....occurring over hundreds of square miles.

On top of all of that you have a small number of thugs who have taken to the streets to loot (not food...serious looting) and have taken to shooting police officers and rescue helicopters. News organizations have hired armed protection for their reporters. That's how scary the situation is. The local government knew the situation was getting out of control and they did *nothing*.

Local authorites told the overflow people to go to that convention center...there wasn't one NO police officer there. Not one. How can that be? The Mayor is sending out SOS distress calls when he should be sending in his resignation. "Dear People of New Orleans, I'm not the guy for this job."

I believe that the Feds didn't even know about the situation over at the convention center until that footage was aired today. And tonight, the situation is already improving. Army helicopters have been in dropping off food and water....probably fearing for their own lives in the process.

I just think that knocking the president and the federal government is being short-sighted and reactionary instead of really and truly looking at the situation with a clear (and bipartisan) head....

Well said!

Aloha!

First...Count us in! :earsboy: :earsgirl: :earsboy: :dog:

Second...if a few bullets and deep waters stop the US Military from protecting American lives, heaven help us when THE BIG TERROR ATTACK comes again to our shores!

Third...would those who are defending this President's callous negligience also defend President CLINTON if he were still in office and reacted this way?

Fourth...even TUCKER CARLSON (in Slidell, LA) is angry asking "WHERE IS THE GOV'T"?

Finally...here's how I feel abouth THIS PRESIDENT's failure of responsibility:

Well! So much for HOMELAND SECURITY! We had WAY more notice on this hurricane than we would if there had been a big TERROR attack. Can it be that :
1. We STILL don't know how to get water to people if the water supply is cut off?
2. We STILL can't figure out how to equip FIRST RESPONDERS and POLICE with communication devices if cell phones go out?
3. We STILL don't know how to rescue people who are injured and dying?
4. We STILL don't know how to evacuate HOSPITALS?
5. We STILL don't know how to keep AUTOMATIC WEAPONS out of the hands of criminals during a crisis?
6. We STILL don't know how to organize truck/bus convoys to bring bread and water IN to dangerous areas? (We can get BUSSES OUT!!!)
7. We STILL don't know how to establish communication to keep the victims informed.
8. We STILL don't know how to set up a website to register victims and keep families informed.
7. We STILL don't know how to mobilize our military IMMEDIATELY!

Look! It's either we DON'T...in which HOMELAND SECURITY is a myth and the COMPLETE RESPONSIBILITY for this lies at this President's feet and we get our 22 BILLION DOLLARS back and HE GETS FIRED for malfiesence(sp?) OR....This PRESIDENT has CHOSEN to ignore the suffering of these people (even the sick and diabled in the HOSPITALS!) rather than devote the FULL RESOURCES of our GOV'T and outr MILITARY to this NATIONAL EMERGENCY in which case he is is not 'promoting the general welfare of the people' and should be FIRED! If he doesn't know what to do, read him the chapters in any US HISTORY book about FDR!

For PETE's SAKE! We liberated Europe, rebuilt it, saved Berlin by airlifting food in 24/7 for over a year, LIBERATED IRAQ!!!!! Just drop some water and bread from a helicopter to at least TRY to save some of the suffering AMERICANS!
