Anyone else taken their own sheets before? Even if you only took a fitted bottom I think it would be worth it not to have to totally remake the bed every night.

With daily service I think the non-fitted ones are fine but I would guess, after a couple of nights without a maid, my odds are about 50/50 of waking up on a bare mattress.

*que voice of smirky Disney Visa mom*

That's not magic.

We didn't have problems at SSR in June...and the sheets were OK...but I think we might take our own along next time just in case.

I can't stand having the bottom sheet come off in the middle of the night.

Exactly, it's like being short-sheeted!

I've got a fitted sheet specifically for DVC. The sheets at OKW this weekend were kind of ratty. The top sheet had holes in it. DH even takes his own pillow.

We usually remake the bed when we arrive so the bottom flat sheet doesn't come off as easily as when the maids do them. I love the 600 thread count sheets at DVC, so I would rather sleep on theirs!;)

We got back yesterday from the VWL, and I was so thankful that I brought a fitted sheet. I get the heebie jeebies when I wake up and find that the sheet has come off!

..... and just take a hot glue gun. Couple good gobs-a-goo in each corner & your sheet worries are over.

I like to use a air compressor to blow up floats, so I think next time I will hook up a nail gun to it and pow!

I might even nail down the sheets on the kids beds after they get in, so they don't run around in the night.

Doesn't it ruin the whole point of a "vacation" to bring your own sheets?

What about safety-pinning the corners to make the sheets fitted? Do you think that would work?

I hate ending up on the mattress but am willing to live on the edge.

.....and here I was thinking that I was the only person in the world who hates it when this happens! NOTHING is more annoying then waking up half on a bare mattress with the crumpled up bottom sheet wedged in a ball where it ought not be wedged.

Now there's an idea...I've often considered velcro sheets and pajamas for my kids! :earseek:

That's why we stopped camping. Too many bed linens to keep track of ruining the fun.

If bringing your own sheets makes you happy, do it. We happen to find the sheets in the villas to be comfortable. Not quite luxurious, but comfortable. We don't run into the 'bottom sheet pulling out and balling up' problem so we've no solution for that.

My question is: Does thread count really matter when you get dressed up for bed?

Depends on what you wear. Or don't wear.:rolleyes1:

Hmmm...

Sounds like someone here enjoys messing up their covers.

We actually sleep on top of the top sheet...only use the blanket that is on the bed and any extra one. We fold over and don't use the quilt/comforter for fear of (eeek) germs.

Never brought our own sheets although I have contemplated bringing our own pillowcases.

That's my point...if you're wearing leave it to beaver pj's, can you really tell the difference?

And if you look at the % on the wine bottle long enough the thread count on the sheets seems to matter less......ahhhh vacation:p

I take my own sheets. Just because I always did find it annoying to have the bottom sheet not stay when it should. Plus since there is not daily housekeeping, it's alot easier to make a bed with fitted bottom sheets. I'm not fooling around with the bottom sheet to retuck/reposition it back on the bed.

I also take one of the DVC sheets and put it on top of the blanket. That way the blanket is enclosed with a top and bottom sheet. An idea I picked up from another poster on the Dis. I understand from her post that this is what some of the more upscale hotels do with their bedding.

We too packed our own fitted sheet this past trip and it was wonderful. It does make making the bed a lot easier and I don't like waking up on the bare mattress either.

Yep, I do this. Got the idea from my Mom and those upscale hotels.

The bedsheets are always larger than the blanket. I fold the sheet on top in and over the top of the blanket. The sheet on the bottom of the blanket then gets folded over both the blanket and the top- top sheet so that no part of the itchy blanket is exposed.

I also carry around a whole lot of safety pins. I pin the sheets and blankets so that they won't come loose and viola - instant duvet cover!

I put the germy bedspread in the closet, not to be seen until the end of the trip. When I make my bed in the morning I pull up my homemade duvet cover. Clean and sanitary enough to fold clean
laundry on.

Now if there are people over who aren't in my immediate family who I know will sit on my bed or I know the kids will be sitting on my bed in their outdoor play clothes to watch the bedroom tv, I make sure that I make the bed with the DVC bedspread.

I usually don't bring my own bedlinens - too much to pack as it is. I do make sure the bottom sheet is pulled and tucked tightly and I usually pull it higher to tuck it in the head of the bed when I make the bed since that's where it is most likely to come loose.

Been lucky that we haven't had much of a problem with DVC bedsheets coming loose. Now if we had that annoying problem (in some places the bottom sheets are way too small for the mattress) than I definitely would bring my own sheets.

In the past, our little ones usually slept in the king bed with us so we had the extra bedlinens from the sofa bed to "make" my duvet cover. Even when the girls used the sofa bed, we had no problems requesting one extra bedsheet from mousekeeping.

Usually by the end of the trip, our unit is swimming with extra towels and bedsheets. The mousekeepers usually leave my beautiful duvet cover alone and leave the new sheets for me on full cleaning day unless I remember to unpin the cover. A few towels are always in the washer/dryer, so we always wind up with more towels on full cleaning and trash & towels days.

If I couldn't get an extra sheet consistantly, I might consider bringing my own or picking one up at Walmart, but so far, no problem.
