OMG haven't done it in ages!!!

Driving from OH to Orlando, with stops visiting people along the way. When I was little, we used to go down I 95 because of where I grew up, but it makes more sense to go down I 77. But I want to enjoy the trip as much as the destinations, so does anyone have an opinion on the route? Any fascinating stops I should make?? I love things like alligator farms and "the world's biggest ball of string"!

You guys who drive from the north to WDW -- give me some tips!!!

shameless bump!

No one has good road trip advice for me!!!

You people in the south don't have any local color I should stop and see along the way!!!!????? :)

when you first start out, stop at Dontinos :teeth:

If all goes as planned, I'll be driving from upstate NY to Orlando in January - and then possibly from Orlando to Austin, TX in February..

I recently purchased a new road atlas and there's a special code to use on their web site to map your trips, find areas of interest along the way, etc.. Let me see if I can find it and I'll PM it to you..

While I enjoy flying - because it gets me where I'm going FAST - I started thinking of all the things (states, cities, etc.) I would be missing along the way and that's why I've decided to drive.. I plan on doing "some" interstate, visiting a couple of people on the way down, and zipping off the interstate now and then to see some of the sites.. :flower:

If he doesn't check in this thread, auntpolly, I would PM Towncrier for advice -- he's done the drive at least a couple times. :)

Me too! I was really hoping people along the way would tell me things to stop off for! Or people who've made the trip.

There are still alligator farms in FL to stop at - right? And OJ stands? What's a road trip without a little kitsch!!!

Oh, good one! Thanks!

Hi! :wave2:

We have driven the past couple of times from up here in MI to WDW. We were pondering flying, but we would have to fly into JAX to pick up my dm, and the 200 dollar increase in ticket price compaired to cheaper ticket prices to Orlando's airport just didn't appeal to us. :rolleyes1

Here are some useful tips that we have found work for us.

About 2 weeks (or less!) before the trip , I would go to your local AAA and get a "trip tix" (or however it is spelled ) map. They are VERY VERY VERY handy. It is a booklet/map thingy that is tons more easier to follow than a regular map. The reason I saw wait closer to your trip to get the Trip Tics (again I remember how it is spelled :earboy2: ) , is because that a way you will get more accurate construction/detour info (which is cool and very useful because they will mark it on the map for you! :flower: ) ;)

Also, fyi the southern states (like Georgia) have some VERY nice restroom areas IMO , expecially at their welcome centers.

Thats one of the things I like about driving, I REALLY start getting exciting when we get to SC and I see the Palm trees by the "welcome" sign. :Pinkbounc :cheer2: :Pinkbounc

Here's a tip from my dm who lives in FL, if you need gas by the time you are about through Georgia, GET GAS IN GEORGIA! the gas is cheaper in Georgia than in FL.

Also, I have heard from numerous ppl that even though it might be just a tad bit longer in miles, take the highway route to FL that takes you by the Eastern seaboard states (NC, SC,) instead of going the route that takes you through Atlanta (just because the traffic in Atlanta will take hours off your time and it is a hassle).

Hope these tips help. :flower:
