For several years, I have donated points to my Church/school as a fundraiser. They used to use them as an auction item but for the past couple years, they have offered them as a raffle prize. I liked working with the winners to plan their vacation using my points. I ran into a few snags, as people have alluded to above. There were those who wanted the vacation during high point times, like spring break, which I was able to accommodate. In response to that, I changed to a fixed time that the points would be available, either during fall break for the school or before Christmas eve in December. This worked well until this year. The prize was a savannah view studio at AKV Kidani from Dec 19-23, that is, 4 nights. This was the first time that the winner wasn't a Church/school family, but was a friend of one of the teachers. I was willing to purchase the meal plan for her if she would give me the cash in advance. She apparently misunderstood and thought the meal plan had to be ordered exactly 48 hours in advance of arrival. I explained it could be added any time up until 48 hours, but, she actually waited until 8 am on Dec 18 to email me that she wanted the meal plan. I was at work. We had our vacation also Dec 19-24, and I didn't actually read her email until we got to our room late on Dec 19, and had to apologize. She also wanted to add an extra night to her reservation, starting Dec 18 instead of Dec 19. Fortunately, there were no openings at AKV for that night, because I am not sure how she would have reacted to the fact that she would have a choice of either leaving a day early or paying me for the additional night. I think I liked the auction format better because at least the people who bid on the item were at the auction. I never even met this woman.
