Last night my husband and I had dinner at Applebees. We were seated by the hostess, then our waiter appeared at our table and, with a lot of enthusiasm, announced, "Hi, I'm Carl! I'm living the dream! What can I get you to drink!"
I looked at the waiter and kind of chuckled. Honestly, I didn't know what to say. I was waiting for my husband to make some kind of joke (he's actually really good at putting his foot in his mouth
) but he passed. When Carl left to get our drinks, my husband and I pondered what he meant by "living the dream!"
We wondered if it was something that Applebees requires their waiters/waitresses to say (although it was the first time we'd ever heard anyone say it). I thought maybe it had something to do with the Arizona Cardinals shirt he was wearing, but since the team isn't winning many games this season, I figured that couldn't be the reason.
My husband said maybe he was being sarcastic. If you've ever seen the movie, "Waiting", you'll understand!
What would be your take on this? Just seemed like an odd thing to say.
